People thought Lion's Eye Diamond was one of the worst cards ever made when it was printed.
Lots of cards are bad and just need some kind of COMBO piece to make them work.
Imagine Lion's Eye Diamond in current standard.
Would it even do ANYTHING ? Probably not ... so it clearly needs very specific cards to even do anything.
Mox cards are somewhat similar. The drawback is either to strict and you simply cannot use it, or its easy to archive and you just get a free mana boost, which makes the decks just +1 turn faster just by playing this cards.
For modern it might be interesting if you can assemble a deck that can both use Mox Opal und Mox Amber (maybe together with Scrap Trawler to combo out with artifacts, which was already a thing in some Krark-Clan Ironworks decks (as you can just cycle your artifacts down to 0 and make mana, draw cards and do all kinds of stuff).
If it doesnt snap, the card will just "exist" and wait for something to make it broken, thats how Mox cards work, they are really ALL or NOTHING.
Money-wise the lands are a big letdown too, these lands are cheap as dirt, no "need" for reprints even too.
This isn't a Masters set. It's a Standard set. The purpose isn't to get needed reprints out there. It's to establish the cardpool for the Standard environment.
I think Mox Amber is the most interesting thing I've seen in a while. In a deck that runs improvise and affinity cards with a few legendaries it will always be online in some form and it's a zero cost artifact.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

I think printing the Innistrad checklands is a severely missed opportunity, and the only thing I actively don't like about Dominaria so far. I didn't want them to reprint something expensive, I'm just severely disappointed that our return to Dominaria didn't have something new. With all of the focus on history, why aren't we getting a legendary land cycle based around famous named locations?
Functionally, I was really expecting some kind of ETB tappd rare land cycle that also had a ton of utility a la Alliances, or maybe even new man lands. Painlands, at the very least, would have been on point, flavor-wise, with the plane of Dominaria. The checklands just really, really don't do it for me, and are about as boring of a choice as we could get...particularly considering that we already have the allied cycle in Ixalan.
Yeah I will get the Mox just in the eventual case (20 years later) that its broken, but right now, we will need to see what Turn 1 enablers we can get in this.

There's a lot one can do to turn it on and it can be useful even when not turned on as just a way to fuel affinity or improvise. For Herald of Anguish it's basically a free mana along with Mox opal.

If your "mox" turns on by turn 3+ its not really a good card anymore, you could probably just run some other form of mana and get way more millage out of that.
However, i could see it being a thing in a UR storm deck that possible runs Baral, Chief of Compliance and Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, thats like 8 legendary creatures for 2 mana and the deck can use the mana boost pretty well and it fuels storm too!
Might be an option to tweak and test some UR storm decks, they have the necessary amount of legendary creatures, any other color combination either doesnt need the manaboost or simply runs green mana dudes like Noble Hierarch which are probably just way better and more consistent if you just want that fast ramp.

That doesnt really sound like a really good strategy, casually, maybe for an FNM, but the cards are just overall too bad compared to what you could easily run otherwise (and they rotate out in not "too long").
This could possible be really really problematic if it looks like in Portal.
I really really hope it wont ... kinda scares me now ...

@Edit: oh there is a card image!
Doesnt look "incredible" bad , but still dont really like the line, its just not necessary and kinda disrupts my vision on the card way more than it should help.
I don't mind the text separator. It isn't strictly necessary considering that flavor text was always distinguished by being in italics, but its not a bad thing to have on some of the more "wordy" cards that want to cram in a line or two of flavor text under the rules text. And yeah, at least its not as overly prominent as the Portal text separator was. Probably one of the least offensive card border changes they've done since 2015.

Turn 1 Plains, Legions Landing, mox, legion's landing turn two swamp or b/w check land, or concealed courtyard yahenni, swing with three creatures flip the landings....i think you win at that point your mana has advanced to turn 3 having 6 mana is jsut two damn good even in white black

I think the mox only works on creatures and planeswalkers.
This is true. And even if it weren’t, the op’s scenario involved two of the same legendary permanent to exist on the battlefield under their control at once ... oops.

I didn’t ask ‘name one drop legends’, I asked ‘what coloured legendary creatures would an affinity improvise deck run if it was actually interested in winning’. The implication being you’d actually want to run creatures that would be effective components of such a deck.
In all fairness, prior to this leak we had not seen ONE card from Dominaria. Not ONE single spoiler. That's a little ridiculous, at least to me.
We do not usually receive spoilers for new sets until a few weeks before that set releases. Dominaria is still 7 weeks away. Masters 25 has not released. WotC would never intentionally spoil the next, next set before the next set even comes out (especially not on this scale). It kills the interest for the next set and dilutes the hype for the next, next set.
I guess this is subjective in terms of "interest garnered." I personally wanted to see a Prerelease card or two by this point, but I may very well be just overly-excited.

Can you imagine if it had been anything legendary? Mox Opal would have tripled in price overnight... 😉
Question! Does anyone know if "rarities" have been published in regards to these cards? I am not seeing it on the DOC, and other websites are claiming Jhoira is rare, the mox is mythic, etc. I am merely curious, and if anyone can point me int he right direction, that would be great!

What colored legendaries would such a deck run? Hope of Ghirapur doesn't work to fuel Mox Amber.

Well, it's on all the time in standard for decks that run Herald of Anguish, Whir of Invention, Bastion Inventor, Reverse Engineer, etc.

Portal had a line separating rules text and flavor text. It was much more prominent though.
E.g. Border Guard and Desert Drake
I think a couple other sets released right around the same time did also? I'm not sure, that was before my time (playing magic).
