Total side note but I like how people are discussing running this over itself.
Well, it has to be said that Kolaghan is clearly better than Kolaghan. Considering what BR decks usually want and how stiff the competition in this guild is, there is no way that I would run Kolaghan over Kolaghan! Kolaghan might make it in as the sixth guild card or so. Kolaghan on the other hand ranks several places below that.
It was so funny to me when they described this as a downgrade to the original Zurgo during the Pax East panel. I was thinking if this is a downgrade, they should really "downgrade" all legendary creatures. Haha.
My deck designing is quite concise at this point:
1. Come up with deck idea
2. Realize this idea is somehow fundamentally similar to another deck I have or that is commonly played in my group
3. Decide I don't want to disassemble one of my existing decks
4. Give up and do nothing
I don't see the point of this new shroud mechanic. It's strictly worse than Hexproof. Threshold is pretty bad too, Delirium is a much better mechanic and probably easier to activate.
Otherwise this card is a pretty neat guy. Dodges removal and grows into a Primal Huntbeast. 3/5
Still dont understand WHY in an anniversary set they refuse to use the Iconic Original arts for these cards and many more in this set.
I dont care WOTC about old rights and stuff, they shouldve ponied up and payed these people or their estates for art we would love to see just one more time and in new border and in foil.
They Completely dropped the ball on it.
I assume the Serra Angel Wont have Shuler art either......its just such a shame and waste when this would have been the time!!!!
That brainstorm/ art is ridiculous slapstick stupid and the counterspell should have been the Poole original. Mishras Factory should have been original as well. The dissapointment in this will lead me to buy less packs

I am a big fan of old magic art, but I don't need it on new cards all that often. For some things, I think it can work (The original lightning bolt or ball lightning arts probably would have been awesome) but that brainstorm art just looks better than the original would in the new frame. An argument could be made for the Mercadian Masques version, but then that's not very nostalgic. And, am I wrong that this is the first time we're getting that brainstorm art in paper? I think it's awesome and would love a playset of foils (although I assume they'll be at the very least 15 bucks a pop) ):
As far as the poster asking to be convinced that the BS are is good, here's my stab at it. I love the tilted perspective and I get that some people don't like the visual pun, but I think it's pulled off in a very clean and un-cheesy way. The "brain" part of it is really subtle and works perfectly with the cloud texture. The face is ominous and interesting and the details (clouds, lightning, water, even the strip of sky you can see in the distance) are done really well without that look of computer animation a few newer magic arts sometimes have.
Considering Rush is no longer with us, I think they should have honored him by using the art on the cards. They could have spoke with his family and worked something out.

While I think the Poole art is the epitome of Counterspell, I seriously doubt most people today would get the art or the joke.
