Between the price pump due to scarcity rather then power and the fact that Imperial Painter was just gutted as a deck there's nothing to hold this up barring the Mythic tag and Commander. It's won't be cheap but nothing like it is now.
You do realize that this price is going to drop? And you also realize that the expected value of a Master 25 pack would be higher if this was at rare, right? But sure, if you like high risk gambling, then of course it's nicer to have this card even more rare. How about WotC printed just fifty of them for the entire world? Imagine how much it would be worth! Imagine how great it would feel to open one!

Still convinced the guy on Beseech the Queen is wearing a Mitra-type hat. Wake up sheeple!
I think people's distaste for this being at Mythic rather than rare is that it's pretty obvious it was driven solely by the price of the card, not the impact on limited.
I don't know if Wizards has recently changed their tune, but last I checked they haven't openly admitted that they bump cards up to Mythic solely to maintain a high secondary market value.
They haven't mentioned secondary prices, but when snap was bumped up they said for reprints they would bump up 'exciting' cards that the community was clamouring for. So using the price in all but name.
People claiming this is going to be a chase card are sorely mistaken, I think. The current price is almost exclusively because of supply. Just look at what happened to Berserk when it got reprinted in a widely printed set. I'd be very surprised in Imperial Recruiter managed to maintain a price of over $20 after the release hype dies down.

probably this, its price is relying on it being only in a portal set and a judge promo
Aaaaaaaaaaand EDH players have their motivation for buying this.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
As Animar is my flagship EDH deck, I can't wait (but will have to, knowing the market) for the eventual downfall of this card's price. All the correct factors are there - it's one of those cards now literally driven by scarcity, sees little use almost everywhere (even in EDH it's in select Commanders). It helps it has different art (I'm indifferent to it personally), so people seeking the original artwork wouldn't settle for this, hence somewhat reducing demand by a bit more.
This is essentially a worse Mana Drain the same way Drain was a worse Mana Crypt in their respective sets and it helps that Recruiter has at least Jace to cover expenses (unlike Drain in iconic Masters) so it's even more free to take the tumble.
Look back to the last time they did this it was Commander 2013 Hua Tuo, Honored Physician was a 60 dollar card.
It is now nothing after a single reprint, the Berserk comparison is on point here.
Also the new art is bad compared to its original.
Hua Tuo sees absolutely no play because it is awful.
Imperial Recruiter has a legacy deck that wants him (even if it's not played a ton) and is a vital part of the very popular Animar EDH deck. I would expect him to stay around 30-40 if only for EDH.
This is a reprint from a scarce set, and a very powerful card to boot, being mythic is justified.
In this case no it's not. There is a huge difference between something like Tarmogoyf and Imperial Recruiter. The only reason the recruiter has the cost it does is due to the scarcity of the card and even reprinting it at mythic will make it lose a lot of it's value. Cards like the former see extensive play and they hold their price because of that.

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

Isn't it the other way round? This is in a sense the perfect Mythic because the demand for the card isn't actually that high, it's just the scarcity that's insane, to the point I think even the Mythic-Masters run might outnumber the available P3K ones (taking into account print runs and age and erosion of the already-low P3K supply). It will drop regardless of rarity it is printed at and there's a chance that rare might absolutely demolish the card instead of bringing it down reasonably because its a card so scarce we aren't even actually sure of its actual demand anymore.
On the other hand, cards with established supply enough to determine demand and are still expensive like goyf (and coughchalicecough) are cards that shouldn't be mythics, because these cards are the ones which need to be not-at-mythic in order to visibly make a dent in their prices.

That is exactly what I am saying will happen Berserk is still worth 20-30 and as Recruiter starts higher and sees more play it will end higher but in the Hua Toa example it was from 60-1 so 200-30/40 is not that far off as a comparison point.

At Mythic, of course.
If WOTC does put that in the set, it better be rare, because it will have no reason to be mythic.

But I'm dying for imperial seal but demonic tutor is far more likely unfortunately it will be a huge huge huge bonus if both are in this.
