Just checked and that Pillage flavor text is brand new.
I hope whoever write it gets a promotion because that's it's a cut above what almost all recent flavor text has been and really looks like it could have been another piece of really old, impactful flavor text all along.
It is weird, though, to have Lovisa still talking about fighting Kjeldor in a card from Alliances considering the titular, y'know, alliance the two nations had.
Yay Chalice of the Void......at mythic? Guess the price of that isn't going down at all. Take a look at Cavern of Souls or Tarmagoyf as examples what happens when a first reprinting is mythic.
And red Akroma is mythic as well? Between the two Akromas this one is definitely not mythic.
Niv-Mizzet, again? I like it has the original flavor text, that's great, but....again?
Oh joy, another freaking Niv-mizzet for me to open in a $10 pack, then get as my foil rare.
I'd be pretty happy with a foil Niz-Mizzet as a pull for trade bait. Commander players are going to be all over that.
Same with Blood Moon. With the way people are loving the watermark on that, it'll be the most expensive foil Blood Moon (barring the invocation) I expect.
It has begun, the bulking out of the mythics so people can play the Jace lottery.... Also Chalice at mythic is kinda gross, Wizards yet again showing waaaay to much respect to the secondary market over their own playerbase.
This made me laugh out loud. Do you want mythics to be value staples or flashy filler? You can't complain about both, because then what do you suggest the mythics should be?
The reason I find it so funny is that I react the same way to both. Most of us do. It seems that what we actually dislike is the mythic rarity itself, and not the way it is executed, because there really is no way to get it right.
Between the two, I definitely prefer the bulk as long as it means that the value is in the rares.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
I think I remember Balduvian Horde being a $15 card 20 years ago.
At the peak, I was offered $50 a piece for the two or three I had. I regret not selling them at that price to this day. Everyone I knew genuinely thought this card would be the new Juzaam Djinn.
It's weird but I never played a full set in any deck even though I had them. The discard was too detrimental and the Horde usually had a target painted on its head.
Chalice at Mythic pretty much guarantees I'll never get it. My Mythic pulls are are really anemic at best and it's usually jank anyways. Thanks for nothing Wizards.
Chalice as a mythic feels like a slap in the face. In MM13 it was fine as a rare (Mirrodin was pre-mythic era) but these days it must get upgraded. Not cool.
Lol at chalice being a freakin mythic. It's not like mana drain in that its expensive because of low supply, its expensive because it sees a lot of play, it should have been rare to increase supply, and give a better spread of value (a 60-70 card every case as opposed to a 30-40 card every 2 boxes).

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring

Yeah, the upshift in rarity of Chalice is probably the most ridiculous upshift of all considering that it was a regular rare in Modern Masters 2013 (you know, when the card was only worth $5). Now that the card is $75+, it's worthy of being a Mythic.
I love Pillage but they dropped the ball with the art and flavor text here. Do they not have rights to the old Richard Kane Ferguson art, or does the art director have objectively bad taste? See Arcane Denial (shudder) for another example of this dynamic.
They actually don't have the rights to a lot of old art. It wasn't until after Mirage that they switched from a royalty model to commissioning pieces they retained ownership over.
The rarity they put cards in is questionable at best and downright insulting to the customers.
Its inconsistent and it clearly is in demand of the 2ndary market prizes , even if they like to deny it, you have to be downright stupid to not see that.

No question theres value to grab, but still some super terrible options.
This set can eat me. Niv-Mizzet is the new Simic Sky Swallower, and most of the value seems concentrated in a few mythics, and the other mythics are garbage. $10 packs and optimal draft environments are diametrically opposed ideas. I could tolerate all of this, and not file it in the bull***** column, at $7 a pack.
Frankly, my good will has been exhausted, and if Dominaria isn't terrific, then I may be out of the game entirely.

Can you name all of the creature types with at least 20 cards? Try my Sporcle Quiz! Last Updated: 6/29/20 (Core Set 2021).
Enormeous, iconic, angelic and high power legendary creatures that was part of Magic lore.
Red Akroma is certainly not that kind of thing, although Gisela is probably on the upper low level of powerful mythics, at least from my experience using her in Commander with my Tariel EDH. If they really wanted a red mythic they could have used Balefire Dragon.
Rare cards = Better cards than common and uncommons.
Mythic rare cards = Same as rares but cooler. More Dragon-like, more unique.
The new Pillage might not be as awesome as Ferguson's version. Yet the art is still beautiful and with old school feeling, higher resolution seen here.
At this point I think it's safe that they just printed both sides of the Mythic Spectrum (overpriced rares & worthless chaff) citing examples from individual complaints from each side. Complained about Akroma? Hey you could open Chalice! Complained about Chalice? You could open Akroma! Complained about Mythics? Hey you could just open a rare instead, we didn't remove those from the system yet!
This one thread (thanks to Akroma and Chalice) is the few times I see the combination of complaints so close together (since usually they're in separate threads) that I feel like the the inability for the community to make up their mind is almost as frustrating as WotC's antics themselves.
That being said, I never saw Chalice as a Mythic even in the sense of "representing the set/block of Mirrodin", so that's a fail from my own criteria. Honestly I think Jitte should have been the Mythic Artifact, it'll be harder to argue against that Jitte represents Betrayers of Kamigawa and/or the whole Kamigawa Block better than Chalice does for Mirrodin for sure (It's a Legendary from the block that cares about it, is the weapon of the protagonist of the story and while it is banned in Modern, this isn't Modern Masters and it's still a playable card wherever it is legal).
What's with Niv-Mizzet, really? Is it the defautl filler rare? "Missing one rare!" "Niv-Miz it is!"
And red Akroma is mythic as well? Between the two Akromas this one is definitely not mythic.

WRONG...
I'm %1,000,000 percent sure the same thing will happen to this to what happened with cavern of souls
(Went down to $34 zone but then all. Couple of weeks later back to normal price.)
If it wasn't mythic I would never had made this post
Oh as for red akroma
In what universe is red akroma mythic rare level.
Its inconsistent and it clearly is in demand of the 2ndary market prizes , even if they like to deny it, you have to be downright stupid to not see that.

So why are Chalice of the Void and Imperial Recruiter mythical aswell?
Seriouslly, mythic rarity needs to go

EDIT: Typos
No, I definitely can argue it, and plenty of us do as mythics in Masters sets don't make sense a lot of the time.
Red Akroma is not iconic. If this was white Akroma then that would be closer to true, but the red version is not nor very powerful.
