From my experience most things that gain a miniature game after the main product is already out never ends well, just look at the World of Warcraft miniature game or the Yugioh miniature game.
I think if they could incorporate the physical cards into the game somehow that they would see a smallish following. If its just another miniatures game then its doomed to fail. This is where corporations get lost and begin the downward spiral when they don't concentrate on the core product and try to branch out into areas that are just going to lose them money. This has Hasbro's stink all over it. They need to concentrate on the paper/online cards. And if they try to branch out it should be to incorporate the cards into the game to increase the player base for their core. Another case of more money than sense if you ask me. For those that enjoy miniature games I hope they like it.

You know, you would think that with all the issues the main game is having we would be putting more time and resources into that but... Here's another dead-on-arrival spinoff, I guess?

uuuuuuh, let's hope it's actually a board game. I LIKED the planeswalker arena game, i have the first one, but i didnt think it worth the price they sell for in greece, id love to get the innistrad expansion but it's rare/cant find it.
does anyone actually like the "Board games" they released? Archenemy bolas and ixilan? it's more like variants of the card game, they look pretty bad to me(as board games AND card value)
i'd love a well designed magic board game. why did they have to discontinue arena, it could be so much. i wont complete my set ever now
So Arena of the Planeswalkers is dead, but it's replacement will be something that sounds pretty similar? I had enjoyed Arena of the Planeswalkers but I don't think I'll buy into this if it is just going to have a similar life cycle. If they aren't going to support it long term with new content they could at least design it to incorporate Magic cards so that even after they drop support for the product it will still continue to develop as magic does.
I would rather see more games like Explorers of Ixalan, but with the option to just buy the board/peices/rules plus. I could happily drop £10-£15 (Explorers of Ixalan without the cards resells for about £9.95 over here) on an annual modifier to my Magic game.
I like the side games they do for mtg: Planechase, Archenemy, Explorers, etc... And i hope it is something like this, that u can play with your magic cards. How about a miniature line for mtg tokens, or mtg legendary creatures? I hope it is not a miniature game, cause wizards don't know how to handle those... Do u guys remember the old D&D miniature game ( not those minis that are produced in boosters and that the only purpose is to be a line of miniatures for D&D tabletop players)(realy, if there is no game behind, selling in boosters is just a cheap way to be mercenary)( I really love that i don't play much D&D and don't like to play it with minis)( there where 2 actualy, one based on 3rd ed, and one based in 4ed), or the Star Wars miniature game, or Dream Blade?
Wizards don't know how to handle miniature games, period. Wizkids at least try, but i will probably not invest on it( if it is a game, if it is just for decoration then maybe i will buy )
I 2 love Arena ! I find it easy 2 learn, but impossible to master.
Its waay better than mtg cardgame & much harder to master.
I love how many cards work only in certain areas.
Aquiring Shadows over Innistrad expansion is easy. Its everywhere in Europe.
They should have just released Magic Heroclix from the start and not waited till both Magic and Heroclix were declining.
Wizkids hasn't produced any quality minis these past two years save for the Tomb of Annihilation board game. If this was Wyrd or Wayland Games we could actually expect awesome miniatures, but I have a feeling assembly-required would be a negative for most of the MtG side of the target audience.
I can´t help but feel that this is yet another largely irrelevant product that they spent resources on that would be better spent on something more relevant to the player base, such as:
- The MTGO software
- Card stock quality
- FNM promos
- Standard development
The only reason Vanguard, planer chaos and commander sell is because they fit into magic. I can combine them into an unholy trinity. You cannot combine their boardgame with mtg which means it will most likely fail. I just want another planer chaos set, they are a great way to show how planes have changed over time.
Planar Chaos? What do you mean? Do you mean the 2nd set in the Time Spiral block from 2007?
Did you mean Vanguard, Planechase, Archenemy and Explorers?
He obviously meant Planechase. You got it, I got it, everyone got it.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
I could see it being successful if it's a modular, expandable version of Explorers of Ixalan's tile system with good quality Planeswalker miniatures to represent each player (instead of those cheap cardboard counters in Explorers).
wizkids mostly screw any collectible game they create (one exception - heroclix), RIP original Mage Knight. I am really scared about this one because it could somehow hurt MtG also
Almost GoT into D&D attack wing (would like To, looks like the Best of the “wings” games) but when i saw it did not get suport anymore and wizkids had began the forget this even happened (deleting all questiona about the game in social midia, and comments about it, don’t answear players about the game, etc) i had no regreet. Maybe i will but a Starter and some packs to have it as a closed board game but it could have Been soo much beter.
At leaat they do heroclix right (don’t counting the game balancing erratas on characters).
1) Get a partnership with Games Workshop
2) Have Dominaria face down an Orc Whaaagh! Or one of the Daemon forces as the backdrop.
3) Let games workshop do the figures along with their partners.
4) Profit!

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!

WotC themselves are not much better about this. Dungeon Command could have given a true purpose to the horde of D&D minis, and well, Arena of the Planeswalkers happened.
I have to agree on the "this money should've been put to improve Magic Online" point.
The Magic Miniatures game with MSRP $60 sells at a discount store "Five Below" (Like 99 cent store but 5 dollars or less for all items) for 5 bucks.
If anyone wants a copy, I'd be willing to pick them up one for the price of the game and shipping.
EDIT: Truth be told, I think this entire situation just points out how incredibly hard game design is. So many people think that they can just "whip" up a game. WoTC would do a better / more profitable job opening up a private School of Game Design or having Seminars on Game Design at Learning Annexes across the country.
Everyone's focused on the thread title to the point that I feel like no one went to RTFA.
...revealed plans for an upcoming miniatures line and board game...
There are two products. MtG players should be interested in:
The initial pre-painted sculpted miniatures will focus on token creature card favorites, adding a premium touch to the player’s table top experience...
I'd totally buy miniatures with card-shaped bases that can be tapped.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
I like the idea of minis, but keep GW the hell away from Magic.
Look inside your soul! You know it to be true! (outside of the horrible price gouging on the united states market.)

don't start on Dungeon Command, that could be like the best miniature games from the last 10 years ( in terms of mechanic, game style, gameplay etc). It is a shame wizards had done just "Starters" ( legion packs ) as the only way to enter and get game pieces. If they had done a booster set, maybe just made DC cards for the minis from a booster set from DDM ( that at that point was just miniatures to use in the rpg, and no main miniature game involved )... Great game with lots of design space, but like most of Wotc new games "it died at the birth".

I wouldn't mind seeing something that involves miniatures. They just have to pull it off
