This is great for EDH since it won't piss your opponent off. Great politics card.
As I'm sure all the DLC Dems will tell you once they realize it themselves, that's not how politics works.
This card is kind of interesting, just because in Standard, you have Aven Mindcensor. In EDH, Ob Nixilis, Unshackled does just enough to screw them over (edicting everyone and searing them). Or Stranglehold, if you just want to turn this into a bad Strip Mine. So there are a few ways to hose your opponents.
Besides that, greedy manabases love them some nonbasics. When I'm playing four- or five-color, I start cutting the more weighted cards, but always keep at least half my lands basic because of Blood Moon, Back to Basics, and Wave of Vitriol. That's why my Saskia the Unyielding doesn't run True Conviction. Other players...aren't so wise.

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
As a mill player, always looking for a way to trigger Archive Trap, this excites me! The search clause as translated says the player searches their deck, and forces the search too! I was already going to run Ghost Quarter, this is totally replaceable for a good while as testing.
OH AND I GET A BASIC TOO?! FAN FRICKEN SWEET.

This is great for EDH since it won't piss your opponent off. Great politics card.
If you nuke my utility land and ramp my other opponents in the process I'm not going to be happy with you. This card is hot garbage in multiplayer unless you can work around it and even then I don't think it's worth the effort.
There are enough land destruction lands that don't ramp the table out there for Commander that there's really no reason to ever use this. I'd like to say I'm surprised so many people are falling for this but honestly I'm not.

Well if you are that type of player who is going to visibly or verbally be upset that I ramped other opponents, I can totally see the other players attacking you out of UMADBRO? kind of mentality. I would be very happy to blow up your land in the process too.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.

Good point. Plus RG is much better equipped for a LD deck than GU.

Hmmmmm... just reread the card... Not a fan of giving 2 other players an extra land each when I'm blowing up the 4th player's Phyrexian Tower. Maybe I should just stick to Ghost Quarter. LOL

Really? I was using your own framing of the situation, since apparently you were worried about 'pissing off' your opponents with land destruction.
I feel like people are missing a big aspect of normal "land" Land Destruction. It sacs your land too. Sure, many decks can abuse that, but for decks that don't, this land doesn't throw off YOUR tempo. Early game, I'd rather ramp everyone else one basic land than be one behind cause of one opponent's problematic land. And late game, I really don't care that I give my other opponent's one more basic land.
Basically, early game this land is land destruction while not putting you behind on YOUR tempo, and late game its downside is minuscule.

Well, you were the greatest threat. That's why. For EDH, I think you could use Aven Mindcensor to punish greedy manabases: "If your top four doesn't include a basic, and there's about a 50-50 shot it will in a sensible manabase, you're SOL, my friend." In fact, you should probably be running Aven Mindcensor in EDH if you're in white anyway, just to keep combo players from running away with the game.

No thanks, I'll take Strip Mines that *don't* ramp the entire table.
I never run more LD lands than just Strip Mine anyway
(or Dust Bowl in decks that can make better use of that).

So, with a Mindlock Orb and a Ramunap Excavator on the battlefield...

If you're going there,
you might as well use Stranglehold instead of Mindlock Orb,
so *you* (and only you) get a basic out of each activation
