Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
This definitely is my favourite commander from the Wizards deck, closely followed by Mairsil. Looks like she's from Grixis, even! That means you can play those rad Mark Tedin basics for extra flavor!
Nice, so Marchesa isn't the third Grixis wizard. This is simple, but interesting. Any idea what plane she's from? Is it just Grixis?
Could be Equilor? Foggy, rolling hills made of meat, an ability that has to do with old knowledge being rediscovered? Probably still Grixis, but maybe?
I might be a bit off but is it possible she's from Equilor ?
It does have some places that are combined or made of living tissue and if i remember correctly the plane was known to have incredibly powerful (seemingly) human inhabitants. I know it seems off considering what we've seen of Equilor but this seems almost too peaceful (ala less metal album cover) then Grixis.

I think the flavour text heavily implies that it's good ol' Grixis.
This is pretty cool, but the Johnny in me still would rather play Dralnu over this. The ability limits you to only playing spells on your turn, so no flashing back counter spells or any targeted removal etc on your opponent's turns. That is huge. Also people see Dralnu's ability of sacrificing permanents whenever Dralnu takes damage as a negative, but I have always seen that as an ability to use to your advantage. Donate Dralnu and deal damage to Dralnu under your opponent's control and laugh. This new Commander Kess cannot do that. Also Dralnu is a tap activated ability, which has it's advantages and disadvantages to Ms. Kess Flying Wizard Snapcaster here, as you can untap Dralnu with Thousand Year Elixir and such, but Kess is a static effect so I dunno who really wins. Anyways, pretty cool but I will stick to Dralnu.

Bala Ged is a possibility. The terrain in the background seems very pitted, similar to how the destroyed Bala Ged is described, and "eyes everywhere" is part of Kozilek's brood's design.

Ulamog's wastes are chalky dust, and Kozilek's wastes are bismuth deposits.
Flesh is Emrakul's "wastes" (because she warps biology), but Emrakul wasn't there during BFZ block, and this would be way too obscure in any case. The clues in this art lean more towards Grixis or a similar plane.

"Eyes everywhere", yes. But "teeth everywhere"? Not so much.

Right, there's Bloodhill Bastion! Equilor would be really cool, but they probably took the easy route with Grixis.
Commander 2017 is like a photographer waiting an entire year for the red carpet at the Grammys hoping to see Christina Aguilera, Gaga and Adele only to get an endless parade of Z-list celebrities from the 70's strolling in on canes.
I think the flavour text heavily implies that it's good ol' Grixis.
People say that, but the flavor text fits Equilor even better than Grixis IMO - IIRC it is the plane that just ran its course and is slowly dying of old age, right? My first intuition upon seeing the organic staircase was Grixis as well, but could just as easily be the Bloodhill Bastion.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Kess is good because you get Grixis colors and you don't have to jump through hoops to ensure you survive combat before you get value from your spells.
Taigam is good because all your spells cast that turn have rebound.
I think the flavour text heavily implies that it's good ol' Grixis.

Yeah, Equilor is one of the oldest currently known planes, and the people there have basically become stagnant.
What makes me skeptical that the text is implying Equilor is that they don't have nothing. They have a society, and Urza discovered that they have mountains of archived knowledge that they could use for significant advancement, but they just don't care about that.
She is a dissident, which implies some form of established order she is against. Is there anything like that on Grixis? As far as I know, there is just a bunch of power-hungry beings trying to kill each other. I think Equilor is more likely.

The mutated bio stuff makes me think of post-Emrakul Innistrad. Not saying for sure but thats what popped in my head.

On Grixis? No, unless you count kill all living things and absorb their life energy/raise them as your minions/recycle their flesh as an "established order". The few living humans still there have to hide and live in fear, become necromancers or become demon servants.
Anyway, I wonder how she'll be built. Will it be a spellslinger-type thing, or more control?

7 out of 16 legends in Commander 2017 are random legends, and the other 9 were established characters. That's more than half. In Commander 2016, 7 out of 20 were random legends and another 3 were literally names from flavor texts that they made cards for (Akiri, Bruse, and Thrasios), so only half of the cards were for truly established characters. In Commander 2015, there were only 4 established characters out of 10 legends, and that's if I'm being generous and counting Karlov (who technically a different Karlov than the one that appeared in the original Ravnica novels).
Don't get me wrong, I want to see less random legends and more established characters in Commander sets too. But this is far from the Commander set in that regard, and it's arguably the best since Commander 2014. At least for this set they didn't completely butcher any characters like they did for Ludevic in C16.
I think that part of the problem was that the dragon deck got leaked first. The dragon deck was the only deck to feature all established characters. The other three had more random legends than established characters. So seeing the dragon deck first gave us high hopes for the other decks, and during spoiler season most of the legends that were new to us (ones that hadn't been leaked) were random legends. It gave the illusion of this set being heavy on random legends, when in reality it's about the same as C16 and much better than C15.

Damn that's nice
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)
It is Dralnu, in one more color, cheaper, without downsides, greater thoughness and flying. Holy smokes this card is great.
EDIT: not strictly better than Dralnu since you can't give flashback on opponent's turn, but still pretty insane.
Read my other stories as well (some ongoing):
Reaper King (a horror story), Kaalia of the Vast (an origin story), Sequels for Innistrad (Alternative sequels for Inn), Grey Areas (Odric's fanfic), Royal Succession (goblins),The Tracker's Message (eldrazi on Innistrad) and Ugin and his Eye (the end of OGW).
Great card.
Given her dress, the murky air, the flavour text and the flesh-covered surface, I'm going with Grixis personally.
Also, giving a thing flashback every turn is nuts.
