I can maaasybe understand your arguments for the months where we had Push, Hub, Path and so on, but let's remember that those are the exceptions. Most FNM promos were 50 cent cards...? Did you guys really let an Unlisenced Disintegration or Noose Constrictor decide when you play, or what format you play? Even last month I wouldn't play, say, Standard FNM over a Legacy Thursday or Modern Tuesday for just a chance to get the Push. It's a nifty card, but it's just, what, four-five bucks? And the EV of just maybe getting one is even lower. I'm not letting the price of a cup of coffee determine what and how I play.
Either the economics are different where you live, or I am not as attracted to shiny objects as you are.
Let me reiterate, though, thst I do dislike the swap to tokens. I just don't think it's a big deal. The signal effect/image problem is much worse than the (presumed) drop in attendance.

Noose Constrictor, or Unlicensed Disintegration? No. But I did draft a few times for a Fatal Push, Spatial Contortion, and Firey Temper. It's not about the value, it's about the card. I play Fatal Push, I like promos, I can skip a week of legacy.

But... if you want Spatial Contortion and prefer Legacy, why don't you play Legacy and buy the Spatial Contortion at 50 cents a piece? How can an EV of 25c (or even $2 for Push) swing your decision? It doesn't make any sense to me.
But you know what? It doesn't have to. If you're telling me that the promos drew you to attend FNMs, then it did, and the logic and reasoning behind it is irrelevant for the topic. So I guess I stand corrected, this might actually have a negative impact on FNM attendance. If/when it does, I hope they are quick to respond and bring them back.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.

I prefer one over the other, but that is not to the point of exclusivity.
And you're right, it doesn't have to be the most logical choice, because I am not a robot I often make choices based on emotion.
FNM promos being replaced with promo double-faced foil tokens, eh? Very hit or miss with me. It could be negotiable that I go for the right token creature, but way more often than not I'll just ignore it.
The most insulting thing about the tokens is they aren't even alternate art or anything... just... foil. Like, why would I bother? Building a good deck and placing well enough for a month or two was great as you could trade off promos to recoup your investment into standard. Now, with the faster rotations and similar cost to previous standard seasons...

It's actually about $12-$13 now, they were like $20ish when they first happened. Push is definitely one of those cards that will not likely see a reprint anytime soon, but is also now a staple. I would expect it to only go up for quite some time. Promos that are modern or commander playable definitely have some value and are (arbitrarily) worth picking up at an event. They won't make or break your decision to go if it's an underwhelming promo, but no one is going to bother keeping up with standard in FNM's if tokens are the only payout.
As expected FNM was barren this week. People didn't show up to Showdown either, only a table of Commander players there for the lulz but despite people being exited about Ixalan and the new Standard, they just didn't show up.
That's why you don't mess with people's routines.
Our FNM numbers were the same as last week but a handful of different players. Some of the try hards stayed home and some more inexperienced players came and there was still a bit of the new set hype with nearly everyone forcing pirates or dinosaurs. I did play against a guy who had me dead if he realized his Captivating Crew could take my flyers to finish me but decided to Star of Extinction instead and I drew way better than he did.
That said, the promo is underwhelming. I have loads from this set already considering how many people leave the pack tokens on the table for me to clean up at the end of the night. I'd have preferred a Siren Stormtamer, Cast Out, or even Time of Reflect; something flashy for a standard build or niche tribal decks.
They should seriously just give out Showdown Booster Packs as FNM prices.
Much better than regular boosters and at least something that isnt complete Junk (as you can actually resell them, while the token is almost trash, only a tiny amount of players even wants them at all).
----
Lots of people didnt know about the changes and pretty much everyone disliked it.
Its lost value and its replaced with garbage.
Players hated to lose Rewards promos , and players will hate to lose FNM promos.
Its an terrible idea to take away value for players playing the game. If a promo has the value of almost the entire draft, you would draft more often, simply as you might get the draft for free by that promo price support.

This really.
At least locally, Showdown isn't popular. People want to play Magic on friday night after work/school, not saturday afternoon when they could be having family time, go out or do housekeeping. WotC messed with people's schedules and that never goes well.
I have a feeling that wizards is trying to cool down the push towards hyper competitive FNM that would happen if the promos ended up being really good. In fact, the entire mtg product line has been getting pushed much more towards a PG rating so to speak.

don't start with it, u make me remember that i have to skip "Ixalan Gameday" because it will be like 12/29
Our FNM numbers haven't dwindled much, but this is probably only due to the mid to high EV the store provides. The promos were only bonus. The difference now is people drop quickly because they don't care if they win a random promo at the end. Total, complete, apathy. If the playmat wasn't sick, the Store Championship would be looking the same way.

If wotc sees this we're doomed to be served just tokens and no more playmats for store championships as well
