I was really hoping the last green mythic was going to be a legendary sandwurm. I'm not finding it at the moment, but I could swear there was a named ancient sandwurm or something in the Amonkhet lore... anyone know about this, or am I crazy?
This iteration has keyword salad, enabled by good creatures you can drop before. Hexproof? Haste? Indestructible? Long as another creature you control has it, so does this.
And there is the problem.
Carin Wanderer takes advantage of the template better, but is still pretty poor.
The problem being that you have to play good creatures to make this one good? Well that's a problem I'm happy to solve.
I totally get wanting to play this with some other awesome creatures. But, you know what goes even better with awesome creatures? Cards that are good when you are behind and not overkill when you are ahead.
This set is just so underwhelming. I don't think Kamigawa was at this level of anti-hype, but man given the way the pre-order prices look even the singles sellers can't figure out what to do with the cards. It's like they just priced things on what people are talking about the most with any hint of positivity indicating they should put the price up a little?
There is a lot of stuff to build around, and this guy is yet another one of those cards, but the question comes down to what kind of deck is someone going to build around this mythic? Is it even going to be competitive?

1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Assuming this comment isn't facetious, the Myriarch could also easily be a 10/10 or even a 12/12. With a squidload of keywords.
This template has appeared on cards before. It hasn't been good in the past, and it certainly isn't good with this iteration.

Well, it only gives the myriarch these abilities at the beginning of combat. That means stuff like hexproof or indestructible or whatever is useless. Evasion is ok? But then it opens you up to relying a lot on your other creatures & using removal on them makes this kinda useless, meaning it's not a must-kill threat, and therefore probably not worth the mana.

Modern: G Tron, Vannifar, Jund, Druid/Vizier combo, Humans, Eldrazi Stompy (Serum Powder), Amulet, Grishoalbrand, Breach Titan, Turns, Eternal Command, As Foretold Living End, Elves, Cheerios, RUG Scapeshift
I thought this was underwhelmingly decent until I reread it and it said that it was during combat only. At that point I'd rather just play Angelic Skirmisher and just give everything one effect for one combat, or something that matches what this does just play Odric or the one with Delve from Khans.
It's a super cool casual card which perfectly fits what I think a mythic should be. I really don't want the tournament level, 4x necessary cards printed at mythic.
It also has amazing art and in foil I bet those wings would be beautiful.
Man, Odric exists in the same standard. How lazy can they be? Not enough potential card design that they need to copy a card, remove skulk, give it variable P/T, add a mana, .. and that's it, we have our mythic!
I don't get it. Sure, print your thousandth variation of shock, naturalize, healing salves, we don't care /too/ much. By rares and mythics? Can we expect a little more creative work?

Indestructible isn't useless. It means that the creature cannot die to blockers' damage. Sure, it's not defense against removal spells. But this card is already immune to the top removal spell in standard anyway (Fatal Push).
Maybe not so bad in an Atraxa deck. Assuming Atraxa is in play, this guy comes in as a 4/4 with flying, vigilance, deathtouch and lifelink. That's solid for 5cmc. And yes, I realize Odric is better in Atraxa, I'm saying in addition.
In a Samut deck with Samut on the table, it's a double-striking, vigilant 4/4 with haste.

This should be the example card shown on any Magic Wiki next to the term "win-more".
Another waste of a mythic slot.

In GW Tokens, it is not outside the realm of possibility that this creature could be a 12/12 when you summon it on turn 5 then an 18/18 or even 20/20 when you attack with it on turn 6 without needing any keywords on it whatsoever. At that point, the typical removal used by most top decks in Standard won't work--you need unrestricted removal like Never // Return, Unlicensed Disintegration, or Anguished Unmaking to take it out. Of course, without trample the lonely little Narnam Renegade will gladly trade with it in combat.
Remember when Maro said Mythics would be cool card not necessarily designed for tournament tables? They finally print a set where that philosophy is adhered to, and the whole community just whines.

Yes, we're whining about all mythics....wait....no, just this one.
No, it's all mythics. Inevitably, a mythic that's tourney-viable invites an endless flood of "they just want money" comments, while one that isn't sends everyone into a frenzy about "another unplayable mythic".
The fact that this is a terrible Odric, however, makes me salty not because of rarity but because of color. Of course green gets worse versions of white's midrange cards, even though green's supposed to have the better creatures at this sort of CMC. Cuz white.

So, to be a vanilla 20/20 this is your 10th creature. Isn't overrun just better? Elves - Ezuri. EDH tokens (i.e. Avenger of Zendikar) Behemoth is always better. As seems to be the theme with anything in HOU, not good enough for constructed anywhere. In this case specifically because the very act of making it worthwhile should always win you the game.

Given the named considerations for removal (and the fact that he explicitly said "Standard"), it sure seems like he's talking about standard and you're not.
If your only concern is if there are better options in Modern, almost any card is bound to disappoint you.
