It can easily be a 4/4 when it comes down and blocks a myriad of things while smashing face. Turn four you can also cycle a Desert of the Indomitable and be swinging for 5 with it (7 with Servant), and that isn't terrible, or play something else and still have a 4/4 swinging on turn four. Now of course you don't want your entire deck to be focused solely on this, but it is in no way bad. Amazing? Not really, but good enough.
The fact it can swing and block and not have to worry about chump blocking is a big thing for it, and if you can make it a 5/5 there isn't much else that can get through it besides Gideon and various pumped energy creatures.
Woodland Wanderer is still a thing that exists in Standard... is this any better? The Desert Faith's Fetters almost makes Desert midrange/control viable by itself, assuming we get enough good Deserts so the mana works. But if that deck wants a bomby 4-drop, I have to imagine there are more impactful options - Bristling Hydra, (sort of) Tireless Tracker, that 4/5 that draws cards from Ixalan in a few months, and if we go outside Green there's stuff like Gonti, Gideon, Kalitas, Chandra, etc.
It's nice that it eats both Avacyn and Glorybringer, but this seems like at best a dubious Sideboard card, if the Reach is really relevant in some meta.

Vigilance and Trample, especially Trample, are incredibly powerful and should not be overlooked. But it's so French Vanilla that I just don't see what strategies it fits in. Even if it were a French Vanilla creature, a 5/5 with Trample, Vigilance, and Reach for 4, where would you play this?
This is, what, the third Snake Hydra we've gotten in as many years? Hooded Hydra, Honored Hydra, and now this.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Wow people will whine about everything these days. What is bad about a 5/5 Vigilance, Reach amd Trample for 4 mana?
It's underpowered, believe it or not.
Underpowered? Should it have costed 2 mana or what?
Well you gotta remember that for 4 mana you could've also gotten Polukranos, World Eater. And while that certainly wasn't a BAD card in it's day, it wasn't an all-star either. This guy's strength depends a lot on how good the 10 deserts that have yet to be spoiled are, as right now none really seem playable.

This card is fine if there are actual playable cycling desert lands. Maybe flying will be relevant.

But 2 mana cycling and enters tapped just kills it before it even gets a chance.

Limited bomb (as deserts will be played there for sure) , but that is all.
Really sad they didnt simply print BASIC land deserts, just like Snow-Covered Lands, would have made the mechanic instantly good.

Maybe if it was only in your graveyard. Have they ever made a card with unconditional trample and P/T based on lands in play?
I do like how cycling a desert can be a combat trick.
