I'm seriously surprised that they printed this. They already seemed reluctant to reprint the crucible itself...
yeah, but it's a creature, so according to wotcs new ideology that's totally fine. Also, ramunap...really? Is that even a name, a place, or anything that can be associated with this random shake of letters? that aside, card is insane. It will be overhyped at presale, drop like a rock after spain opens its floodgates and then constantly climb up due to edh, casual and maybe even competitive demand.
cat looks awesome artwork wise (the paw is just too cute), but I smell the 100th iteration of double strike paired up with this sets keyword, so I'm not getting my hopes up.
Last but not least, I have to say that is one of the most awesome gameday mats I've seen. I couldn't care less about Amonkhet's, but this one I'll just HAVE to get, even if it means playing a brain-dead zombie deck that turns everything sideways.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Wow, abrade is great! Finally, a flexible, efficient, instant speed removal spell. Looks like wotc finally figured out how to print answers to their threats, between this and fatal push.
Wow, R/B Aggro, R/B Zombies, Big Red, and B/G Delirium may dominate the standard meta because of Wildfire Eternal and Ramunap Excavator entering the fray. Eternal can even act as a turn 4 finisher in Mono Red Aggro decks of old. Sat this past set out, but may play around with HoD if more quality cards like these are released.
I'm seriously surprised that they printed this. They already seemed reluctant to reprint the crucible itself...
It's a creature. Everyone except for absolute n00bs runs creature removal.
(As an aside, I like just knowing that Crucible's ability is green like I predicted.)
Afflict looks interesting. "Do I take the 4 damage, or do I take 1 damage and risk a *local Lava Axe variant*?" Of course, this assumes you don't just make it unblockable and hit hard with Searing Wind or whatever. (More of a Commander play, but still, fun.)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Those are all creature version of some of the best cards and those are like $200+ and these magus's average to the $1 range
The one and only magus on par with the real version price is magus of the moon
This is Basicly magus of the crucible so it's immensely safe bet this one will be on par pricing with the others, plus this is going to be on a heavy and I mean heavy print run since it's not mythic.
As a matter of fact harsh mentor is potentially the final broken 2 CMC creature of the cycle (the red one) and that's only $2
Haven't read the whole thread so forgive me if someone already mentioned this.
Flavor wise, looks like an Eternal is whatever those worthy champion mummies are being converted to behind that door; they're being Eternalized. I'd guess whatever it does it for sure adds the type zombie, so most likely a sort of mega-embalm.
Does that actually work? I don't think Alesha actually makes the creature attack, just come into play attacking. IIRC, the creature actually needed to attack to get triggers like that to work.
Edit: i think the "and isn't blocked" part of it might actually make it work. I'm looking at the interaction with master of cruelties, which last I remember worked with Alesha
Yeah, the triggering event is "isn't blocked" during the Declare Blocking Creatures step. The "attacks a player" clause is a clarification that the ability does not trigger when attacking non-players. I can image that a better template would read, "Whenever ~ isn't blocked while attacking a player, [do the thing]."
Crucible on a stick is just ridiculous. At least its easier to deal with, but i can see Company decks slotting in 1 or 2 and packing 4 ghost quarters as well as renegade rallier.
Funny how much more receptive people are to the punisher mechanic of Wildfire Eternal compared to that of Oracle of Bones. Not saying that Wildfire Eternal isn't better, but the reactions are way more positive than would be expected for a punisher mechanic.

Alright, I have to stop you right there. The reason why some of those cards are so expensive is because they are on the Reserved List and because they were only printed in incredibly small numbers by today's standards.
In addition, with creatures suffering from summoning sickness, they can't use abilities that require tapping until the next turn, making them inherently worse than other permanents that can activate those abilities immediately.
True, creatures are easier to remove than artifacts, enchantments, and lands, but that isn't enough to justify a massive price difference between the two. In fact, giving an old enchantment legs makes it a lot better sometimes (see Eidolon vs. Pyrostatic Pillar).
The reason this card won't reach really high prices is not because of a lack of demand. It's because Wizards prints the sh** out of sets nowadays, and there will be a billion and a half copies of Crucible Magus floating around. It will be an auto-include in a ton of different green EDH decks. There may also be some Standard decks that run this along with one or more of the ton of strategies available that put lands in graveyards.
Block him and you'll lose 4 life, let him go and you're in big trouble..
Love it
Yeah, and it doesn't care about the spell's mana cost so get ready to suck down a four mana burn spell or a Tooth & Nail at a casual table. Lose 4 life or lose 3 life to a Bolt variant, hmm. So so good.

To be fair though it's a punisher mechanic put on one of the most common self-repeatable triggers (attacking and blocking), once it's repeatable by itself is becomes a lot easier on the user. One of the biggest gripes about punisher effects is that the opponent can calculate (quite accurately) which effect you want when because you usually only have 1 interval to use it. Even if you go out of the way to make it repeatable, let's just say the effort you put in is also part of the calculation (plus the effort isn't usually worth it). With attacking/blocking? Not as much (I wouldn't say it cannot be calculated, but it's a step harder for the opponent).
Ultimately afflict is still going to be as frustrating as any punisher mechanic when it doesn't go your way, but chances are you're going to be more forgiving about it and that makes a slight improvement over the typical punisher cards.

Yea that's a much better explanation why the magus cycle is not to hard to gather
The moon magus probably just has smaller print run and is in the same boat as damnation.
Ramunap Excavator HOLY MOTHER OF FLIPPING FUDGE I hereby dub thee Crucible Snek.
Afflict looks nasty. Future Phyrexia mechanic? I'm guessing black and red get it but will any other color?
I'm curious as to how Eternalize works. I have a theory: Embalm with Indestructible. This is most likely our Embalm replacement.

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
There is something else I noticed. There are going to be 199 cards in HOU ! Previously announced was at 184 .Yay ^^ I wonder whats the 15 extra cards inclusion will be

Reality is only what man allows it to be. Few shape it so that many may accept it.
Selling some cards I don't want.
Generally less than tcg mid.
Its actually the Gameday Top 8 promo. So not only do you have to go to a store and play. You have to do pretty well too.
Or you could do what I intend to do, and purchase them off the second hand market.
