Simic Nissa I didn't see coming. I'd like to explain that she takes on the aspects of the plane she is on to get some strange mana happening, but if that was the case we would have seen it happen elsewhere by now. Unexplainable blue mana cost aside she is very good. She makes draws better, puts things directly into play (which can defend her, possibly), and she can even come down with X=6 use her ult and swing for 10 in the air. She is a great walker, and easily the best Simic one, as of right now.
The zombies are also amazing. Uncommon lord is great, especially when that lord makes your creatures nigh unblockable, a 5/4 beater that gets value from board wipes, and 2/1 for 1 that keeps coming back. These zombies are all great. I have to wonder if zombies in Modern is possible.
Awesome nissa, combos with the green vizier. I think those 2 cards are going to form the core of a deck in standard for sure, unless something else just turns out to be busted or copycat keeps crushing
can i put both -1 / -1 counters on my bird of paradise, or must the second counter go elsewhere ?
You sure can. Which makes all these "Put some -1-1 counters on other creatures" things so much fun with other cards like, say, Blisterpod.

Since the counters are placed at the same time as part of the same ability, you can put the counters on any creature that can be legally targeted by the ability. Even if one counter would kill it.
I'm sure the explanation for Nissa's blueness is that "the only bounty-of-nature stuff/non-wasteland areas on Amonkhet are fed by the Luxa and it's a conduit of massive amounts of blue mana, therefore Nissa has to have blue mana pass through her to use her magic."

Her Kaladesh PW deck was GU, so Wizards was clearly dabbling with her being Simic before Amonkhet.

To be scrupulously fair, the PW decks are all two-color, even for monocolor 'walkers, just for gameplay variety: Chandra's white cards in her Kaladesh deck doesn't mean we'll necessarily see her turn red-white anytime soon.
can i put both -1 / -1 counters on my bird of paradise, or must the second counter go elsewhere ?
Not only you can, but you actually must put both -1/-1 counters on the same creature. You couldn't split them even if you wanted to. To allow you to do that, it would have to be worded like "distribute two -1/-1 counters among creatures you control."
Also, count me among those awaiting a flavor explanation for why Nissa is partly blue now. If I'm not mistaken (and I might be as I'm going by memory), that now leaves us with no monogreen living planeswalkers (I think Freyalise is dead, again correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't play yet at her time).

Wow, all solid cards. Nissa, wow, nissa I just love. Insane power, she only pays for it by not necessarily protecting herself right away... and the ultimate is weaker than typical, but in a ramp deck, watch out.
All the zombies are solid. Great that the lord in uncommon. The belcher is so great. Wanderer is yet another GY recursion one drop for black. Did it need another one? Modern has plenty enough already.
Bu nissa. Oh sweet nissa. Now I don't know if I hope to open liliana or nissa at the pre-release. I'll go for both.
In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.
Nissa looks great at first glance but suffers from not being able to get maximum value without creatures.
UGx midrange creature deck? Nope sorry not in this format, vehicles ain't creatures.
So play her in control? What to scry? At least Saheeli packs a scary infinite combo. I don't see the ultimate as being too powerful / game ending and obviously this is because it's too easy to get it by paying extra mana, still 10 to the face is a potent finisher if you make it to 8 mana with clear skies on your opponents side.
Feels very Zendikar Kiora to me. Does stuff but not enough to make a big impact on standard.

Freyalise is exceedingly dead, yes. There are a bunch of planeswalkers with green in them (Arlinn, Vraska, Domri, Kiora, Garruk, Ajani, and at last check Sarkhan) but if the blue thing sticks, no monogreen.
Nissa, Steward of Elements is easily my favorite Nissa since Woldwaker. Scry to set up a psuedo CoCo and then hit your opponent with an ten-damage RKO outta nowhere. Also, the card's initials break down to 'NSE', which I will pronounce 'Nessie' all standard long
I will also be calling the 'mini hellbent' abilities on Dread Wanderer and Hazoret the Fervent 'heckbent'. You heard it here first, folks.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.
I like the Nissa but I'm kinda sad that it couldn't have been a blue or bluewhite control PW with similar abilities (ultimate as finisher, +as card selection, 0 as draw or free play). This is more beatdown beatdown beatdown. Okay its Nissa so that's part and parcel, but its kinda regrettable.
No Kaladesh Nissa is more beatdown. This is a control walker. Scalable to be relevant at all points of the game, fixing your draws, some free ramp or creature production, and a nice big 10 point hit. Yep, definitely control walker.
For what GU control deck?
I wasn't saying that Wizards necessarily designed the card with a specific control deck in mind. Just that her abilities work very well in a control shell.
I have a question concerning Nissa:
As far as I know, state-based effects are only checked, if someone gains priority. So is it possible, to cast Nissa for GU, hold priority and use the +2 ability without her dying in the meantime due to having a loyality of 0?
I'm not a judge (yet) but I'm sure she would die from SBAs for having zero loyalty before you can activate her ability even if you keep priority. That's because SBAs are checked any time any player would get priority, and you get priority after your spell has resolved. Relevant rules from the CR:
601.2i Once the steps described in 601.2a–h are completed, effects that modify the characteristics of the spell as it’s cast are applied, then the spell becomes cast. Any abilities that trigger when a spell is cast or put onto the stack trigger at this time. If the spell’s controller had priority before casting it, he or she gets priority.
704.3. Whenever a player would get priority (see rule 116, “Timing and Priority”), the game checks for any of the listed conditions for state-based actions, then performs all applicable state-based actions simultaneously as a single event.
Any actual judge, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
@void_nothing: Thanks for confirming my memories. The pattern completionist in me hopes they remedy this by giving us a new monogreen planeswalker as soon as possible.

So Nissa is getting another color, that could mean some character development as well. Maybe she will become less lame...
Also, new monogreen walker incoming? Garruk cured??

As far as I know, state-based effects are only checked, if someone gains priority. So is it possible, to cast Nissa for GU, hold priority and use the +2 ability without her dying in the meantime due to having a loyality of 0?
No you can't, state-based actions would kick in and send her to the graveyard, you are misunderstanding the rules on state-based actions. They are not checked while an ability is resolving, which is why
, for instance, creatures that set their power and toughness based on cards in hand can live through a Wheel of Fortune despite briefly having a toughness of 0, but you can't cast this Nissa for x=0 and then use her for the same reason you can't cast Force of Savagery and hope to save it with a pump spell; she would need to enter with an additional loyalty counter to not immediately die.
Also you cannot ordinarily activate planeswalker loyalty abilities at instant speed anyways, so even if it did work like you thought it still wouldn't have worked.
Dread Wanderer is the coolest black one drop ever. From the name to the art to the creature type and ability to recur itself. If you disagree, that's fine but I invite you to fight me in the pit.

Also, new monogreen walker incoming? Garruk cured??
Therefore guildpact is broken again prompting Ravnica 3..?
Time will tell on whether the zombies make it in standard depending on the rest of the spoilers.
And as if UG EDH decks needed another crazy place to dump their mana. Nissa seems really quite good but was not expecting her to go UG
BRGKresh the BloodbraidedBRG, A box of lands and ideas.
Modern:
RG Titanshift. A deck made of cards too stupid for EDH.
Retired: Lots. More than I feel you should suffer through or I should type out.
, for instance, creatures that set their power and toughness based on cards in hand can live through a Wheel of Fortune despite briefly having a toughness of 0, but you can't cast this Nissa for x=0 and then use her for the same reason you can't cast Force of Savagery and hope to save it with a pump spell; she would need to enter with an additional loyalty counter to not immediately die.
Also you cannot ordinarily activate planeswalker loyalty abilities at instant speed anyways, so even if it did work like you thought it still wouldn't have worked.
