I was expecting "Creature cards in your graveyard have embalm. The embalm cost is equal to their mana cost."
Maybe next set?
I am hoping that this is what Oketra does.
would like temmet a lot if he had it...
I would love this, too; however, I think because each creature with Embalm gets its own token, then that means this likely won't be possible (unless they introduce some kind of generic "Embalm" counter in the next set, perhaps).
Rhonas's Monument might work in GR energy. The fact that every creature is a pump/trample spell after it hits the battlefield could be a nice bit of gas. T4 plays of the Bristling Hydra now bring a pump spell for 3 mana instead of 4. Servant of Conduit and Longtusk Cub for G. Also the R enchantment giving a decreasing boost for 3 turns.

Oketra creates tokens I'm guessing. I suppose it's possible she could have an ability that Embalms creatures in your graveyard, but I think it's slightly more likely/less broken if she just creates generic mummies.
True. I suppose she could have some other variant, it depends on what her activation is. But Create a Token seems like the sensible answer. And Embalm any creature for X just seems it's asking for trouble. I suppose it could have a variable cost but it seems likely to be too expensive then.
Actually, considering every White Zombie previewed so far comes from Embalm and considering the flavoring behind it (which means I'm not surprised if there weren't any actual White Zombie Creature Cards), any token lord/anthem is effectively a "Zombie Lord/Anthem" in the set. I think the Legendary is the closest we'll get to a "Lord" (I know it's technically not one) and now I'm wondering if we'll get an anthem like Intangible Virtue that pumps Zombies as well (basically "Creature tokens you control get +1/+1. Zombie creatures you control get +1/+1). I know In Oketra's Name exists, but an anthem is a different level altogether.

I think Temmet is pretty cool. A 2/2 for two that buffs your creature tokens to sneak in some extra damage, and if you get around to embalming him, he's basically an unblockable 3/3. He'd make a great Commander.
Seriously, how do you guys see these cards before they are even posted on the mothership?

This thread is full of idiots... Lightning Bolt is NOT being reprinted.
Many times has a writer in Wizards said so, because of the plain and simple fact that it's too powerful for what it costs. x/3 creatures shouldn't be able to die at instant speed for one mana without a signifigant drawback. (like PTE giving you a land)
I absolutely guarantee that LB will not be printed in M10, and you can quote me on that.
Exemplar of Strength seems like it could be fun in Mono-G Stompy: "Oh no, I have to put three -1/-1 counters on my Young Wolf/Strangleroot Geist? How truly, truly horrible..." Granted, the worst case is pretty bad (two-mana 1/1 that has to attack multiple times to be worth the cost), but it feels like there could be some fun swinginess there.
In general, I really like the "put -1/-1 counters on your creatures, remove them for a benefit" theme for Green. It's very flavorful as a "strength through adversity" sort of mechanic: your weakness is what enables you to become strong. (Edit: Hadn't read the article yet, turns out that's exactly the flavor it's intended to convey. Well done, then.) And the fact that it's removing -1/-1 counters rather than adding +1/+1 counters means that there's a built-in "cap" on how big those creatures can grow, which I imagine goes a long way towards making them develop-able.
The Green counters theme also means Splendid Agony has extra utility in a B/G deck, since there might actually be a reason to put -1/-1 counters on your own creatures occasionally.
The Monuments also seem pretty fun. Nothing much specific to say about them, I just like 'em.
I like that artifacts. Not fond of Temmet's abilities but the art and theme mean he's going right in my deck. Sad he couldn't be a 6 drop 5/5 with some crazy ability for commander or something though. Oh well, to the 99 in my Ephara deck you go.

What? He's a meh commander at best. The token doesn't count towards commander damage. So a 3/3 unblockable is unimpressive. There may be token shenanigans in UW but Ephara is already better in that realm.

You mean like the one on the punch card that will be in Amonkhet packs?

Yes, this is exactly what I meant. For whatever reason, I forgot that this was already included as part of the Amonkhet punch card.

They already spoiled a generic Embalm counter in this set.
I'm looking for a Stompy-ish build to be viable in Standard. For a few months at least, Blisterpod might be the most viable sacrificial lamb to this.
T1 Blisterpod
T2 Swing with Blisterpod (if path is clear), Exemplar of Strength, put counters on Blisterpod, it dies, get Eldrazi Scion. End T2 with 5 untapped power+toughness on board, and be in position to cast a 4-drop on T3 if need be.
Heh, that new Haste Croc would be perfect.
T3 Sac Eldrazi Scion, cast Crocodile of the Crossing, put the -1/-1 counter on Exemplar. Swing with both, remove the counter from Exemplar, gain 1 life, hit for 9.
NOW. He's going to be my dream card I've been waiting for to go alongside Baral, Chief of Compliance.
I hope that Bontu will be my dream card. Like seriously wizards, can we just have ONE great mono black commander? I'd like to see something that involves making my opponents discard cards (or each player) along with a fat 5/5 indestructible body
Can I embalm Temmet to the command zone, or am I right in thinking that doesn't work? I hope I'm wrong, I want to build him + Mirror Gallery for the laughs.
He returns to the command zone when you embalm him, so you can always have his ability up. Getting in a free attack every turn, especially with sizable tokens, is pretty strong. I'm thinking Rite of Replication, Minion Reflector, Infinite Reflection, etc., with white token support.
The preview article for Temmet, Vizier of Naktamun states he is supposed to represent Tutankhamun. The art is fantastic, but I don't think the card captures the flavor of Tut very well.
Tut was a pharaoh, not a mere vizier. His mechanics (a bit expensive, but pretty neat) don't capture anything about the boy king. The card's name (probably the easiest way for people to clue in this is supposes to be Tut) immediately reminded me of Tymaret, the Murder King instead. If the article had not pointed out that Temmet was supposed to have been Tut, I would never have made that association myself, and I adore all that is ancient Egypt. Folks with a passing knowledge may have an even harder time with this.
At least make his name something like "Tutmet", I would have picked that up right away.
But holy crap, Rhonas's Monument triggers for every creature spell you play, not just green ones. I will always run that in limited, no matter what colour I'm playing. Maybe even constructed, +2/+2 and trample on something every cast is brutal.
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar. I can't wait till I can play my bicycle land out, thus making me heckbent, while I have Nessie on the field. You know, so I can attack with my Pervert.

I hope there's a Flying Men with Embalm,
and maybe even something like Savannah Lions with Embalm cost of 0.
