When folks started complaining about the Invocations not being legible, I was confused and didn't really understand what they meant. NOW I realize everyone was talking about the cardname/cardtype and not the text box.
I definitely agree that the font used in the card frame is rather difficult to read. That doesn't bother me all that much though. What I think would have been a real travesty is if the text box was illegible.

These are the masterpieces for this set? That's cool and all, I just wish the card names were legible.
Like, that's all I ask is that the mechanically relevant parts of a card be easily identifiable.
I'm curious what these look like in other languages.
All that said, I don't ever intend to use any of these "fancy" versions anyway, so it really doesn't matter to me, except when I'm trying to figure out what my opponent is casting.
As for the Hieroglyph font-
it's admittedly cheesy, but it's the only part of the card I actually *like*.
Ah so you're that person in the market research that votes YES on anything the other players scream about not to do.
In all my years as a designer/developer, there's been a few testers and clients who voted for the most rediculously unreadable texts, and I just can never understand their motives.
Change can be a good thing. Same goes for trying out something new and creative. This... is a bit too much I'm afraid, and I should love the absurd, tryhard focus on egyptian style.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I absolutely applaud their willingness to experiment with these. I understand why some like the result, but my own impression:
Card Frame Designer: "So what're we gonna do for those Amonkhet masterpieces?"
Wizards: "Have you not been paying attention? Egypt, but with horns. Two horns. No, four horns!"
Card Frame Designer: "Um, okay. So, like...how about some hieroglyphs alongside the usual fonts and colors and whatnot?"
Wizards: "No, instead of all that. Make 'em just barely readable."
Card Frame Designer: "Why include rules text, then? Rem'ber textless cards? I liked --"
Wizards: "No. Oh, and you know how we normally check for caps lock before we type out that rules text?"
Card Frame Designer: "Yeah..."
Wizards: "Still do that, but make sure the little light is on this time."
Card Frame Designer: "But --"
Wizards: "CENTER ALIGNMENT!"
Card Frame Designer: "...What?"
Wizards: "That totally just came to me right now. Center alignment! It's brilliant. Y'know, like counterspell, but for every spell! Haha, but put a shadow on the top and left bits so the whole thing still doesn't look centered."
Card Frame Designer: "Uh...anything else?"
Wizards: "Wait, I'm sorry. I had this all wrong."
Card Frame Designer: "Phew. So let's start over --"
Wizards: "SIX horns!"
I like the frame (total Egyptology nerd here), but I am underwhelmed with most of the art. Aven Mindcensor looks glorious but for a lot of the other ones the art feels a little bit barren and simplistic...maybe that's the idea, to invoke ancient and powerful Magic (as in, Alpha-Beta art) but for instance that Counterspell is pretty uninspired.
Uh, I don't think you can count the value of these as driven by the value of their old versions. People who want this counterspell want THIS counterspell, and the fact that they can get other counterspells for $2 doesn't change that these counterspells will never drop below $50.
Huh, hadn't realized that Ornithopter was still at like $60 for AER Inventions...guess Counterspell will be a fairly expensive card still.

I adore these cards and want them all. No trolling, honest, i am in love with the frames, the new art, the fonts (yes the fonts) and ESPECIALLY the random heiroglyps. Feels like everyone else hates everything i like about them :/
One the plus side, less demand means they're cheaper for me to fill a folder with

So, WHY everyone is pissed of with the change? There is a simple reason, it doesn't look like a magic card at all. Feels more like yugi or spellfire.
1: The text is centered.
2: The card name and type has a disgusting font.
3: The card board has too much noise. "Okay, so we need some stone pillars... and stripes of color...and banners! AND AND A fork thing to hold the holo stamp".
4: Overall the whole card steal way too much attention
from the art. Who is designed this can't be part of MARO team, not from the old team that had the backlash from future sight. Players want MORE art, liking full art cards (see expeditions and full art lands), yet cryptic command feels dull because of the full "Gosh we "need" to do something new for the board, let's just throw things at it" mode they went.
How appropriate. Now this art I like, quite a lot. Worship isn't high on my want list but I like the art a ton.
Re: Hating on the frame - I admit on my computer I can't even read the name or card type, but as someone playing for 17+ years I immediately can identify the card by its game text. They're almost like reverse textless cards. I think they're growing on me already as a long-term player, and I think that the little bit of strain for less experienced players "feels" appropriate too - like this is ancient lore that takes a bit of effort to unravel.

Wait. I just realized that Aven Mindcensor is only listed as being #2 out of 54. There isn't a heck of a lot that comes before the letter 'A' on a white card, so what could the card before it possibly be? An eldrazi? ARMAGEDDON? My money is on geddon.

Agree that geddon is a good guess. Other possibilities based on flavor/previous constructed play:
This literally the worst. I can't tell what card I'm looking at. Is it a sorcery, creature or instant? The frame is just so busy. I know people didn't like the dawn // dusk but this ***** is the next level of the next level

Abeyance and Rector are resereved. Austere Command seems like a slam-dunk inclusion considering its ubiquity in EDH, but Armageddon is also a reasonable guess and I'd say Aura of Silence is possible although I think pretty unlikely. Any angel also fits but we have yet to see any angel art for Amonkhet and I suspect that in Bolas-land Archons are much, much, much more likely as the big white creatures. Good list!

Kept the main black border.
Added a lot of Gold.
Put the Horns around the hologram.
Add the weird font.
And NOT made the frame huge to downplay the art?
Fine, but what they have here? No thanks. Hard pass.

Agree that geddon is a good guess. Other possibilities based on flavor/previous constructed play:
AbeyanceReservedAcademy RectorReservedAegis of the Gods
Afterlife
Ajani of some sort
Any of of number of Angels
Angel's Grace
Astral Slide (okay probably not, but cycling theme!)
Aura of Silence
Austere Command (whole cycle? They definitely fit the invocation theme)
but yeah I'd but geddon as a front runner.
Wish the art was slightly larger.
