Embalm is cool but also depressing.
It's essentially Flashback but for creatures instead of spells. Part of the continuing nerfing of spells in favor of permanents.
No, it isn't, it's mostly flavor based and a realistic representation of how the concept of "embalming" can be represented as a mechanic.
Anyway, the mummies being white is a controversial choice, in my opinion.
Why is it controversial? What already has a handful of zombies and Breath of Life. It's hardly a stretch of flavor.

My thoughts exactly.
You guys understand that every single Embalm token dies to Fatal Push, right? There are SO many answers to creatures in Standard right now.
Also, remember that card with the wonky frame that was spoiled a little over a week ago? Instants/sorceries with a Flashback variant, remember? Cool your jets.
Did people whine this much when Undying was revealed? That mechanic is generally more powerful than Embalm in most circumstances.
And you understand that in addition to Fatal Push for the token you also need another removal spell for the original creature, right? Does the term 2-for-1 ring a bell? If there were "so many" answers to creatures in Standard, it wouldn't be in the sorry state it is now. Face it, the creatures are getting stronger while the spells are getting weaker. There's no need to eagerly defend WotC when they themselves have admitted the lack of answers is a huge problem right now.
It's not exactly 2-for-1 in the sense that your opponent had to waste however much mana they spent to activate the Embalm ability. Unless it's late in the game, that may have been the only thing your opponent could do on his/her turn.
Speaking of 2-for-1, there's a card called "Unlicensed Disintegration" which is just great. You can destroy a creature for only 1BR AND do 3 damage to that creature's controller if you happen to control an artifact -- which, it turns out, there are a million constructed playable artifacts in Standard right now.
Lmao did you just seriously say that you don't have to 2for1 yourself to deal with an Embalm creature "because mana" and cite five overcosted sweepers none of which are actually played? You know what a mana sink is, right? The player with the Embalm creature will just keep playing the game and then bring back the Embalmed creature, or he can indeed skip his actions for the turn and bring it back right away anyways, and that's not accounting Embalm costs that cost less than your answer. And btw, destroying a creature and dealing 3 damage is not a 2-for-1. You're trading a card for one. Both players end at card parity and none come out on resources. Doing 3 damage does not equate card advantage.
Also, you can put Sixth Sense on an opponent's creature and make them have to consider whether hurting you is worth giving you a card. Doesn't work for Keen Sense.
No, you can't, Sixth Sense gives the ability to the creature, an ability with "you" on a permanent refer to the controler of the permanent. To work like what you suggest the text should be like "Whenever enchanted creature deals combat damage, you may draw a card.

Embalm is very much like seance, you lose the ability to recur the creature but you do get a token out of it. Expect a functional reprint of Seance that will cost more to cast/use.
Exerted is going to cause lots of problems, trust me when its 11pm and your all tired your going to forgot not to keep them tapped. Heck even kids will forget the next turn and untap them.
I too can see this becoming a problem. I think the way I'll deal with keeping track is by "double tapping" an exerted creature and basically turn it upside down. Then when I untap my next turn I just give the exerted card the same quarter turn I give all my tapped cards and that will put it into a tapped position.
Are they gonna print any legit grave hate into this standard though?
Somehow i doubt it... Tormods Crypt would be fitting flavorwise (i have no idea who Tormod is, but neither do 90% of the Magic playerbase), but i don't really see that happening.

I can't believe I actually had to type that out
That white rare is a freaking hell yeah for casual EDH
Sounds like a Spell Theme.
It sounds more like a Planeswalker/Legendary creature theme to me. Damnation doesn't sound too Invocation-y.

I guess it depends on whether they're using the "Invocation as summon" or "Invocation as Incantation" definition.
And I mean, if you can Invoke the Wrath of God then you can probably Invoke Damnation.
Personally want the later so I can throw money at a Masterpiece Damnation
Standard - Some kind of control
Modern - UB Mill (casual)
EDH - Meren's Grave Shenanigans
Right, it could go either way but I'm leaning towards instants and sorceries.
