Now I'm curious as to what Exert does. But Cycling being back...Astral slide players everywhere rejoince.

My Commander decks:
Chandra, Torch of Defiance - Oops! All Chandras.
Prime Speaker Zegana - Draw for Power.
Pir & Toothy - Counterpalooza.
Arcades, the Strategist - Another Brick in the Wall.
Zacama, Primal Calamity - Calamity of Double Mana.
Edgar Markov - Vampires Don't Die.
Child of Alara - Dreamcrusher.
I'm guessing exert will be something along the lines of 'When ~ attacks, you may chose to exert it. If you do, it doesn't untap during your next untap step.'

I thought the same exact thing.
Based on the dictionary definition: tr.v. ex·ert·ed, ex·ert·ing, ex·erts
1. To put to use or effect; put forth: exerted all my strength to move the box.
Cycling seems a bit disappointing in this set, also discarding cards seems counterproductive if we have devotion back in this set.
I hope you're not saying that just because there are Gods in this set. There's been no indication that Gods will always have devotion. We need to wait and see.

Cycling being back will make a lot of people happy. With the other card we saw, and general Egyptian obsession with life/death, it does seem like a good fit.
Exert is probably 'double-tapped' / 'doesn't untap next turn', etc. This kind of thing has been a long time coming, it opens up a lot of design space as a balancing tool and cleaner templating.
The Vault sounds awesome, but I'm sure it requires too much set-up and support, since you will at least need top-deck manipulation to abuse it. If it put permanents revealed this way into play, then it would get around the land-drop limit.

I mentioned it for the sake of consistency. God sub-type creatures having different mechanics just seems weird to me.
Also cycling/discarding cards usually means loosing ideas or thoughts, life and death usually refers to cards on the battlefield/graveyard
I do wonder if there are other circumstances in which a God could come 'alive'. The devotion mechanic worked very well both thematically (a god needs a certain amount of worship to get things done) and in terms of gameplay, where even though they're indestructible you could still interact with them to a degree by cutting them off from their followers. It also created an interesting dynamic where keeping a god online or offline is something that can be battled over. If they do go a different way for gods to be turned on and off, I hope that it at least won't be an ability that will be too 'static', if that makes sense.
I can imagine a new devotion mechanic checking for a specific type of creature subtype like warrior or "species" like jackal, making the god a kind of "Patron Saint" for the subtype. Also making artifact gods instead of enchantment gods could also work.
Interesting new cards.
I like the idea of cycling/discard being a thing. Also nice to see a return of -1/-1 counters.
The demon seems very strong. Just cycle a couple of cards can wipe out your opponents board. Also being able to do it at instant speed for those combat blowouts just seems even nicer. But will depend on how many cycling cards their are in the set.
That dragon also seems like one of the stronger dragons we have had for a while. 4/4 with haste for five mana, that can kill something when it attacks as long as you do X (whatever exert ends up being).
I'd be surprised if exert is 'double tap' because the dragon's wording is kind of weird in that case. Why is it 'as this attacks' rather than 'whenever this attacks'?
It kind of needs to be something that changes the state of the creature. Return to your hand would work; sacrifice would work but seems unlikely, -1/-1 might work. I like the idea of bouncing it; you can burninate your opponent or it flies off over to the corner and burninates something else.
It seems odd that exert would exist as an action with no reminder text, unless it was something that was going to be made more common, possibly evergreen. Could this simply be a replacement for 'tapped and not going to untap during your next upkeep' This could save alot of space on blue cards.
Do you suppose those cards in the background of the first picture are also Amonkhet cards?
That's always something I wonder after I'm doing looking at the cards being shown.
the white card in the first pic is the FNM Servo Exibhition (you can see the flavour text part in the second pic)
on the other hand the card "Trueheart Duelist" that can be seen on the second pic is surely the uncommon Gameday promo

It could be. Or maybe it is just "You may exert once each turn", so if you had two Glorybringers you could burn only once? Though I agree it seems quite likely that "exert" was called "doubletap" at some point and is just what you said.
...
Chances for an exert symbol?

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
I wouldn't be surprised if Exert is putting a -1/-1 counter on your own creature to do something cool with it.
Yeah, that definitely makes sense.
I really, really hope that we see a card, Red or Green, that when you Cycle it lets you destroy an Artifact. I've been waiting for such a card for years.

Really? One card is spoiled and you've gone and determined that the whole mechanic is going to suck?!
It must be spoiler season.
