This will make for a great add to my Eldrazi Displacer + Panharmonicon + Drowner of Hope deck as a finisher. I've been looking for a way to use the infinite mana instead of attacking.

Another Triskelion is, really, exactly what my Atraxa deck needed. And I'm sure there are plenty of other people with other generals who are equally happy to double up on trike.
Apocalypse Hydra, meet your easier-on-the-colors-but-more-mana-to-cast (and also free-to-ping friend.
I would remove the Hydra for this in Animar since it can be cast and pings for free, but at the same time it scales worse than the Hydra past 7 mana and if you have infinite mana (mainly because of Palinchron, so color isn't an issue) neither of their differences really matter any more, so I might just find someone else for this to replace instead...
Straight into Mikaeus! Strictly better Triskelion coming!

MTGS Wikia Article about "New World Order"
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
Oooh, scaling Triskellion. This could end up being really spicy in ramp decks in Standard (if they pop up). Obviously this won't see Modern play in Affinity due to the XX cost, but this is a rare with real potential.
Even better. This is a 0/0 base P/T, so you don't have to have a sac outlet (or, I don't know, Heartless Summoning) for Mike Trike shenanigans. #Johnnygasm

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!
To be honest, I think this is a trap card in the set. The reason the similar Hangarback walker is good is due to the fact that even if it dies, it leaves you with something in it's wake. This guy looks like Hangarback walker but if someone destroys it you have to sack it to do damage right away. It's not a big distinction, but, it is something to think about. The fact it can hit someone in the face right away is a big plus, though.

I think the fact that Hangarback can come down on turn two and start adding counters for one mana per turn, while Ballista needs four mana a pop is also something to keep in mind. Ballista's ability doesn't have a notable advantage over Hangarback until you hit eight mana, which is a major dent when comparing competitive viability. In a deck with an infinite mana combo, sign me up for the Ballista, though.
EDH/Commander is a social format, right? So why don't people use their social skills to discuss what they like and don't like, instead of adopting a list with 60+ banned cards?
Definitely not a trap. This card is seeing play in Vintage and is already packing Top8s in Standard.
It's the first week of the new standard and the motto of the first week is always when in doubt, aggro out. All the top 8 was basically aggro decks in a GB shell and Combo saheeli. Let the meta adjust and I'll bet we will see the exact same trajectory that happened with Verdurous Gearhulk. It doesn't change the fact it is a good card, but it's weak to white and blue control cards and Fumigate is very good against the GB builds, which if you look at the deck lists many of the Jeskai and four color saheeli decks had in the side. I feel confident the price is going to go down. Vintage alone isn't going to get this guy to keep his price tag. That requires standard to make him a 4 of in every deck like rofl copter, which just isn't happening.

Would someone who's invested in Standard right now explain to me why this card is so expensive at the moment? To me, this card looks like absolute garbage. 4 mana to get +1/+1 and deal 1 damage just seems like a terrible rate no matter how many times someone can get away with doing it in a game. And the XX cost? Bleh. Why is it so popular right now?

WUBRGMr. Bones' Wild RideGRBUW Trap your friends in an endless game with this 23-card combo!
It has synergies with nissa, snake and the green gearhulk. It also interrupts the Saheeli combo, as she has to go down to 1 at some point during it.
That's more or less it I think.
Thanks for the response. Those interactions weren't immediately obvious to me. I can totally see how strong synergies within Standard make it much better than it appears to be.

Also, there are lots of cards that need more brewing time to show up in force. So the fact this guy is colorless direct damage that also works as a creature makes it an easy early standard card to work with. I think it's a little slow for modern play as most creatures you want to remove in modern have at least 2 toughness. Frontier can get some work done with this guy even with kolaghans command in the format.
