Very different than Adaptive Automaton. Automaton can hit the battlefield last and pump your guys, this has to be in play already to have any effect on your other creatures. This of course does leave counters behind if you manage to get any though which is nice.
Is this another Merfolk lord? Modern decks are certainly getting some goods!
This is my question too. Can somebody summon some Merfolk players to weigh in? It's obviously a lot worse than LoA and its twin brother, but it could still be decent?

I'm going to give it a shot at least. What I'm going to cut, I have no idea yet, but I like the card.
I know other cards have played nice with persist before, but I do believe this one's got to be the new top dog for its low cost and lack of color requirement.
Does a creature require a +1/+1 counter on it for this to trigger?
No, if a creature would enter the battlefield with 0 +1/+1 counters, instead it enters with 1. It's a replacement ability instead of a triggered ability to mimic a lord-effect that doesn't go away when the Mimic does, so that e.g. there's no chance to Shock a 2/2.
And I'm no rules guru but I assume that if Collected Company puts two of these in play and you choose the same type, they each get a counter from the other.
Break out the schnaps, we have another include for some fun atraxa builds! Unfortunately, unlike what someone else said in this thread he is definitely not a strictly better Adaptive Automaton. The problem with it is that you absolutely must have this on the field before the next creature gets cast or no buff. the Automaton anthems the field unconditionally for a creature type so it's basically good all the time. It's still a highly playable card, though.
1. (Ravnica Allegiance): You can't keep a good esper control deck down... Or Wilderness Reclamation... or Gates...
2. (War of the Spark): Guys, I know what we need! We need a cycle of really idiotic flavor text victory cards! Jace's Triumph...
3. (War of the Spark): Lets make the format with control have even more control!
Very interesting. In URW Thopters all the Thopters will be 2/2s. In Frontier, Metallic Mimic could work with BGW outlast creatures like Abzan Falconer. All other tribal decks welcome their new lord.
Really excited to try this in frontier goblins. If it sticks and you follow up with a hordling outburst you have a very formitable board state. Im sure there are other shenanigans that will go on with this guy.

Finding room for him in abzan is a bit tricky though. That clan is hard pressed to find room for a robot in their ranks with all the removal they have to pack in against the mardu hordes.

Strangely enough, it may even find a home in GR Werewolves, a tribe which did not get the love it deserved in these recent Standard sets. I suspect BR Vampires might be better, though--a lot of vampires in the current Standard are x/1.

Edit: That's some cool ass art!
