This reminds me of Tragic Slip,
all the way down to the name!
This is likely to be worse than Slip in EDH,
but better almost everywhere else.
Forget being killed by blades or someone ripping out your throat nowadays you die if you slip or get pushed, talk about power creep when all you need to do is fall over.
Swords to plowshares has the drawback of gaining life. Bolt has the downside of not killing goyf. There is also nothing saying you can't play 4 this 4 bolt either in a grixis shell. Just because this wasn't printed in alpha like plow and bolt doesn't mean it isn't better.

I never thought I'd live to see this day. Bolt still reigns supreme in the 1 mana removal category for the simple fact that it can go to the face so it's never really dead. You can't push snap push to end a game, etc. And it's obviously worse than swords/path because it doesn't kill delve and to a lesser extent smasher and random things like wurmcoil in modern.
That all being said, this is easily top 5 removal spells. I think it could be 3rd best. It is definitely better than dismember for black decks, to the point where I would without a doubt run this main over dismember, relegating it to the sb for the few matches you need it. Not much of a mtg finance person, so I really don't know about the price, and I don't think it will get to swiftspear levels (I mean, c'mon, best red one drop creature? Best red creature, period?), but it will definitely be one of those staples everyone wants to have 4 of for future deckbuilding.

The life gain is hardly a draw back at all; the white decks in the format are not trying to kill you as quickly as possible. Path to Exile has a real downside, but Swords's downside is closer to flavor text.
Bolt almost never kills Goyf, and Push won't always be able to kill the 3+ CMC creatures either. It may be very easy to turn on, but there will undoubtedly be cases where you cannot kill a Vendilion Clique. Aside from that point, Bolt doesn't become a dead card against the noncreature decks in the format. Push is actively bad against Miracles, Sneak and Show, Lands, Storm, Eldrazi, and Reanimator. What would you propose cutting in order to fit them in the deck?
Just because this kills a lot of things in Legacy doesn't mean that it's going to become a staple. Decks will adopt it if they want another cheap removal spell, but I'm not sure which decks actually need that. Shardless can certainly replace the Disfigures. I see the card being a fringe playable.
What really sucks about this card is that the only place they could really reprint this in a set is a Masters set. The fact is that Revolt, from a flavor perspective, is super limiting. It's not Bushido limiting, but I doubt it's as easy to find a place to effectively have the Revolt mechanic from a flavor perspective. I love the mechanic and I think there's some really cool design space in it, but it'll be tough to reprint. So get them while they're widely available. I'm super thankful it's an uncommon, but a few years from now this card could get very expensive for an uncommon.
You are not seriously complaining about reprintability of a standart uncommon when the set isn't even out yet?
Card is obviously awesome and may have implications for several formats. What I don't like is the prospect of every dullard yelling "This is Sparta!" every time they play it. I really thought they'd do this kind of thing during Theros block. *sigh* I didn't dodge that bullet after all.

How many printings has Path to Exile had despite the fact it's over $10? This card will be in high demand and could become very expensive in the future.

It's probably one of the only cards in the set that is potentially worth picking up as a pre-order thanks to the insane demand on it. Playsets of this thing are selling out so fast on E-bay that the next newest listers are putting them up for near 5 usd a piece. With free shipping, of course. I'm still in the mindset that it's best to wait until release to pick anything up as the meta wont be really shaped up until the promotional tour is over with. Still, I'm surprised how strong the small set is compared to the large one. Did Wizards intentionally cram everything good in the second half just to make sure they got sales after steam and stores in general have sucked the life out of everyones collective wallets?

It's the same with OGW, though not sure if it's just coincidence. I'm thrilled as someone who enjoys the game, but it does cause some eyebrow raising...
Well it was about time WOTC solved the color philosophy problem of having black as the removal color but being always second to white thanks to path to exile.
Get your copies now then. Price shouldn't be a concern for the people in the game RIGHT NOW, it should be a concern for the people who get into the game 5 years from now when fetches are $50 apiece from KTK and such. Or how about when underground sea was $20 10 years ago but is 10 times that price now at minimum.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
The infuriating part is that you'd think maybe it's just a modern problem (since you name path), but going all the way back, swords blows anything black has out of the water.
IMO the weirdest part from a Modern perspective is that Black and White now have such great 1-drop removal, yet the best WB removal in the format is… probably either Anguished Unmaking or just Regular Old Unmake (which doesn't really count since it's a hybrid).

Except that despite the very real and sometimes very hefty drawback attached to Path, it is still an order of magnitude more powerful than anything black has to offer by virtue of exile being relevant and being completely unconditional. Don't get me wrong, Push is premium removal in modern, but black is still playing second fiddle : (
I can really feel the hype rushing onto this card, but I'm suspecting that as good as it definitely is, we still managed to over-saturate the market and at this point of time they might tumble down a month after the set is released. For those who got theirs at 2 or below each they're worth it, but now that the hype-market passed that point, I don't feel like it's worth it until the "reality check" period after the set comes out. Yes, Path was not cheap when it was in Standard, but we're in a different era of Magic now where the sheer quantity of cards printed in Standard does have an impact (if Monastery Swiftspear was printed in Alara quantities rather than Tarkir ones, I daresay it would be more expensive than it is now and we might have surpassed Tarkir Quantity by now).
I wouldn't say it's better or worse than Path/Bolt, it has its own advantages and disadvantages that are vastly different from the two that I would say they're about on-par and what to use is rather dependent on the situation. It's superior to both when dealing with the likes of Goyf, but it's inferior together with Bolt when dealing with indestructibles and together with path when your opponent has 3 life left, all reasonable situations to expect in a game. They're all inferior to Spell Snare when it comes to Arcbound Ravager technically speaking (although Path is a slight step ahead of the other two).
As far as Europe is concerned, Swiftspear's medium price is 1.50€ on MKM, more or less equal to Aether Hub. Higher than the norm, but still low to get any profit on it, and she's the best uncommon we've got since Young Pyromancer if memory doesn't fail me. The only example I can think of, but on the short period rather than the long one, is Stoke the Flames, whose price before the FNM promo was insanely high, but then obviously dropped to 0. Sets are widely opened right now: without some kind of collective madness everyone will get its playset in a blink of an eye... there's just no way such a card could have the same price as nonblue Fastlands at least for the coming 3-4 years...[/quote]
It's never dropped below $1.70 in the US, and its high point was nearly $4.00. That's enough for a profit.
