I still maintain that all counters should be represented by things other than dice. Popcorn kernels, coins, little rolled up pieces of paper, matches etc. For the rustic and authentic gaming experience.
I got funny looks when I brought poker chips to FNM to use as counters. I didn't know the community universally switched over to dice.

Disappointing that there won't be something I can keep in my deck box at the prerelease but this is of miniscule importance in the grand scheme of things given that it only affects a single print run.
Word of warning to all magic players planning to use coins. DONT. I got in trouble at the london GP and at a prerelease for Shadows over Innistrad for using coins instead of anything else. I prefer to use coins to show +1/+1 counters and dice to show the number of tokens. Apparently money on the table is against the rules of magic as it can be seen as gambling.
However it is perfectly fine to convert money into booster packs, play magic and win booster packs and then return those packs to stores in exchange for money which if you think about it, is gambling.
Poker(Magic), exchange currency for chips(packs/cards). Use those chips(packs/cards) to play a game in hopes of winning more chips(cards/packs). Exchange chips(cards/packs) for more cash then what you started with. Gambling.
Prove to me GP's aren't gambling when you can sell those packs/cards to stores on sight for cash.
This line of thought reminds me of the big CSGO controversy that happened recently.
How big is a print run? Is there a way to know if a box is from the first print run?
Many weeks will pass before a second print run will enter the market. Whatever you'll buy after the release for at least a month will be first print run, probably even more unless people start cracking packs like mad.
About the topic: as I already pointed out in the other thread, I think it's one of the biggest failures of R&D in years. Shame on whoever is responsible for this. It's obvious that every enfranchised player doesn't care about it too much, because this kind of counters are useless for us, but I expect at Prereleases less experienced people will look after Energy counters, and not finding them isn't exactly a good example of relashionship with the audience.
I care about it quite a bit, personally, but that's because I collect tokens, so having less of a chance (aka no chance) to pick this one up at prerelease is annoying.
The responsibility likely lies with the printing company, and not WotC.
Maybe you're right, but in this case shouldn't it be a localized problem? Cards for Europe and Asia are printed in other places than USA, for example European cards in Belgium if my memory doesn't fail me, so there should be a specific problem in one of those areas, just like the possible mistake with mythics in EMN for USA and some others problems occurred in the past. Their announcement says that the token is missing from the entire print run, so that's really strange if it's not a problem from the direct source, which is Wizards.
The only way it's the printing company's fault is if that card on the print sheet was messed up on the plate . And then qa at the factory should have caught it. But even then it would be misprints in the packs. It's far more likely that it was inadvertently left of the print sheet. Maybe the same guy was in charge of signing off on the last two Tokens sheets and messed up.

Using coins is definately not against the rules of magic. Neither is using 50 dollar notes, although their may be perceived bribery issues at that stage.
On the topic at hand: BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAA. Nice work, wizards.
No one else thinks it's super weird that they were planning on keeping track of energy with cards? Between tokens and clues and emblems the field is already too crowded with garbage cards. It never entered my mind fora second that we would be keeping track of energy with anything but dice
When Commander 2015 came out, WotC didn't place an experience counter token on the website along with the other C15 tokens, so I assumed the same thing happened here with energy counters. I think that it's quite the oops when art and flavor is becoming even more important for WotC and when the set is new. Once energy counters come out with boosters the fever might've died down already.

Yeah if I attended a prerelease I'd be using energy from pokemon TCG all day. Hell even once the official energy token cards came out I'd still probably use pokemon TCG energy.

Do you only get tokens at pre-release? It must be pretty hard to collect tokens if you cannot buy them from an LGS or online...
I feel like with poker chips it would be pretty hard to distinguish between say, 4 and 5 counters though, whereas a die just displays the number prominently.
Welp, this might make the pre-release weekend awkward.
ehhh.... Everyone uses dice. I doubt anyone is going to have an awkward experience because they don't have a proper energy counter. If the print run was missing a Servo token then it would be awkward.

An entire type of card being left out sounds more like someone forgot to add it to the file sent to the printer than a printer error.

As long as it takes 30 minutes or less I can make one there.

Not everyone. I like making lists.

Enters tokens are are made
I saw a few booster box opening and I saw energy counters.
The yellow one works quite perfectly.

In any other case a normal D20 that comes with the PreRelease pack does the trick already.
