Every single vehicle we've seen so far has some form of evasion. That might make it more playable for shrinking your combat math into 2-for-1 blocks, but it also limits how useful the pilot abilities could be. We've seen 1 pilot who grants haste and 2 vehicles who have haste. I wouldn't be surprised if we see flying or trample pilots.
Wouldn't it have just been so much easier to have vehicles act as equipment? Or enchantments?

Enchanted Creature has haste and menace
Whenever enchanted creature leaves the battlefield, return Hellish Steed to it's owners hand.
Vehicles opens up more design space and decision making. It also circumvents summoning sickness and asks you whether you want to go wide or big - it's really a sweet design.

Calling it now, there's going to be a really busted Pilot who gives +1/+1 counters when he crews a vehicle.

Vehicles don't setup you for being blown by 2 for 1. A removal on the vehicle don't kills the creature and vice-versa. Also it's pretty nice for utility creatures that you don't want to risk in combat.
Ovalchase Dragster, the other vehicle is quite similar to Ball lightning. But this one is more simlar to Skizzik.
While Ovalchase Dragster does indeed have the same stats,
this thing can attack the turn it comes down without any outside help.
To me, that makes it the better comparison,
but they are both very similar.
You mean "without any outside help other than turning it into a creature".
On an empty field, this one hit fo 5 once, the other do nothing without creatues on the field. So this is a ball lighting (although smaller) alone, and later can be re-used.

Without other creatures on the field a 5/3 isn't super relevant. You want to be refilling the board, and this lets you use summoning sick creatures as ammo.

Check out the thread for my cube if you have the time, and tell me how terrible it is.
Generals meant to be drafted first in a single pack of 6 cards.
And here is the actual cube, meant to be drafted in 4 regular sized packs. (60 card decks)
Feels a little to "samey" with the one spoiled earlier, but the card is definitely solid. Maybe MTGs racecars will always be ball lightning style dudes.

your opponent uses a board wipe, you cast this and hit him for 5 haste on the face. This is a great followup to board wipes or opponents with low defenses if you don't mind going alpha strike.
So it's a colorless, reusable Ball Lightning?
That could be useful.
Something like that. The stats allow it to be reused more. (e.g., no dying to first-striking weenies)

Card advantage is not the same thing as card draw. Something for 2B cannot be strictly worse than something for BBB or 3BB. If you're taking out Swords to Plowshares for Plummet, you're a fool. Stop doing these things!

Visually, they're very similar too. I can see this causing confusion and misplays.
