I usually don't like dwarfs, but since they look just like some kind of halflings, i am totally alright with those. Sucks for dwarf fans though, as those are clearly not the classic dwarfs.
Flagship Predator always was one of my favorites and it's nice to see a modern version of a legendary skyship on a different plane. Scourge of *something* is airborne once more.
Also expect a lot of confusion on pre-releses with counting those tiny energy counter icons on cards, should have done them with numbers somehow.

Wait..... can you stack Lashweed Lurker's ability with Rashmi, Eternities Crafter's? Basically returning Rashmi to the top of your library only to reveal it to Lurker and play it for free for 1UG? That seems decent right?
This doesn't work I'm afraid - Rashmi will already be in the graveyard after paying Lashweed's cost, so will not be a legal target for the cast trigger
That fox with some of the emerge creatures is straight value. Gains 2 life, draws you a card when you sac it for an emerge creature. I like that card a lot

Yea, those are MTG Bars. What can I say, I am a dork
Ok sure most will disagree but vehicles=blah to me. Not just the mechanics of them we have seen but the whole idea of vehicles and flying ships does not fit my view of fantasy gaming. Steampunk fans will love the set and good for them, but for me they are dead on arrival. I do though like the idea of MEDIEVAL fantasy settings outside of European myths and terminology.
It doesn't even really fit steampunk, steampunk (well, steampunk in its most traditional form) utilizes an alternate history context to explore the effects of technological advancements occurring far ahead of schedule, or at the very least a disconnect between the level of technology and its functionality (so admittedly in a fashion it does make sense to call Kaladesh steampunk to some extent when you consider the whole "Rashmi invented a planar portal, what could possibly go wrong?" thing in the story).
It's definitely exploring a more science-focused slice of the speculative fiction umbrella though and I'd say it makes it very unlike what we've been led to expect from Magic; up until now the only bone ever thrown to anyone interested in a scifi flavor of Magic was the old joke article for Space: the Convergence, written back in the Timespiral block years as a what-if look at an alternate version of Magic in the form of a science fiction card game.
Re: Glint-Sleeved Artisan: Has mono-white ever gotten a 3/3 for 3 at common? Much less one with an option to go wide as well? That's something new, for drafters at least.
Attended Knight comes to mind. Always goes wide but has first strike instead of +1/+1 (and the token isn't as useful as an artifact is as a tradeoff).
Also, Blade Splicer for a similar card, but not at common.

Well in the time of Urza block we had a bunch of "inventions" and with the old Thran cards, they are all Golem / machines and artifacts.
Mirrodin is overall a plane of machines.
This here, however, shows more of a world of actual "humans" that work with machines, which is much more like the "real" world with a little twist.
It simply has more robots and flying airships, which we dont have (but might get in the future).
It for sure looks interesting.
But people that expect a more traditional fantasy setting with swords and magic, wont really get that in this set.
Its a different kind of fantasy, and thats a very GOOD thing to not get the same repeating crap over and over again , different worlds are key to keep magic fresh.
ESPER was kinda similiar, but had a smaller focus in a set with many sub-planes that all had very different themes, so it was much less a real thing that people noticed much, here its a bigger focus (as its the plane of the set).
----
Vehicles simply look like Equipments in an overall more "explosive" manner, as they are bigger and actually die , instead of the creature (so here the creature stays, while the "vehicle" dies in combat and/or to removal).
Its quite similiar in that regard, so it will be totally fine aswell.
----
What makes vehicles feel out of place in terms of flavour is simply that a HUGE airship kinda plays in some way as an equipment "sword" , and in direct combat that feels strange, very strange (expect a random 1/1 spirit that somehow faces a gigantic airship, well thats some fantasy "break up" that has a muddy feeling, i just imagine Innistrad infested with zombies, and an army of airships fly in and "bombard" the land, makes the "threat" a lot less intense, compared to people fighting with pitch forks, swords and melee combat).
The idea is good, but this might be a too "hard" break in the different worlds, as they are so extremly different.

You could... but why? You'd be better off doing it with something that has an ETB trigger.

Rose tint my world, keep me safe from my trouble and pain.
So the Gatewatch (Avengers) may end up fighting Ultron (an Aetherborn)...
That Aetherborn is Ashiok
For starters Ashiok loses a bit of flesh off to vapors at random intervals. The head dress that he wears looks exactly like something from Ancient Egypt. The next block will probably delve more into Ashiok. As ancient Greece and Egypt were trade partners and heavily interwoven with Roman mythology and religion. Ashiok going to Theros and then going back home makes sense in that Ashiok worked with devotion and would thus be familiar with gods if coming from the Egyptian plane with 5 gods (confirmed).
Indian world is a major plus.
Steampunk never interested me.
This having vehicles doesn't impress me much, and none of the mechanics scream "Modern" thus far. This set screams EDH and casual. The competitive side of me has an eye out for competitive Energy units. The casual side of me is looking at the dwarves. EDH side is looking at the colorless artifacts for my Kozilek deck. My Cube side is speculating on whether this will be a good draft set or not.
The characters draw me into this set, the mechanics do not.

Life is a beautiful engineer, yet a brutal scientist.
Ashiok is genderless, grey in color, dressed like aetherborn, eroding over time, and Ashiok's mechanic functions like Gonti's does.
WAY too many similarities to be written off so simply and derisively by you.

As Wizards goal is to become more inclusive, having a single token race that is genderless is kind of more insulting than a genderless race as well as an Agendered individual.
So I guess the grey fading figures in Ashiok's Adept are also Aetherborn, and that anyone can become Aetherborn?
Also, Ashiok is not dressed as the Aetherborn, Ashiok is dressed in a mockery of Theros fashion, as stated in "Building Towards a Dream, pt. 2"
The form floated several inches from the ground and was dressed in black cloth and leather in a mockery of current fashions in the cities of Theros.
And Gonti's mechanic also functions like Daxos of Meletis, Grenzo Havoc Raiser, and several other cards that are not similar to Ashiok in appearance.
Saheeli, our beautiful 3-mana planeswalker. A bit build-around me, but at least even if you don't have enough artifact to fire off her ultimate, her second ability alone can already win you the game.... Which WORRIES me; That second ability, for the most part, far outpowers her ultimate.
Ugh... Furious Reprisal really confirms the story's going to be boring same ol, same ol evil government being toppled by renegades, same ol....
Atherworks marvel is probably decent. The fact that it's not a creature means that if you combine it with Wrath effects, you can QUICKLY recoup your losses. Ouch.
Vehicle is a nice idea, although Crew X ability is rather strange.... tap ANY number? instead of tap X?
I created a vehicle card type back in 2005, everyone thought it was a stupid idea...and here we are....obviously it functions slightly different, but the key point here is they made a completely new card type, just like I did. Pretty much everyone thought it would be bad to have this idea. I laugh.

Don't see why Ashiok being able to create other Aetherborn or "infect" other beings with Aether such as Ashiok's Adept is out of the question since it is a Planeswalker.
The garments look like what the Aetherborn are wearing regardless of what you quote. Denying the similarities in design is simply crazy. TOO much, WAY WAY WAY too much in common with Aetherborn to not be one. If Ashiok isn't Aetherborn with this much similarity then it's lazy design and reuse of assets from WOTC.
Vehicles seem more like they exist primarily to stroke the ego of a certain head designer who has been trying to "make them work" for a while. Strikes me as a bit boring and win-more.

Although I'm not a fan of the flavor mechanically they seem interesting enough. Kind of like a Convoke variant.

As soon as I saw they made servo tokens I wanted there to be a artifact creature crow in this set.
