I feel like I'm the only person who saw this card and fist pumped. Granted I have a rather specific use in mind, but I feel that it slots into Abzan Seasons Past rather nicely in the slot that Nissa's Renewal occupies in the non Sylvan Advocate lists that get to run Pulse of Murasa. Renewal is ok, but 7 life is often not enough of a buffer, and more importantly, 7cc is better for the recursion aspect.
Definitely not an amazing card all around, but I wouldn't be surprised at all to see it show up as a roleplayer. Gaining 20+ life at a go can buy a lot of time.
Playing since 1994: Currently MAGS (HomeBrew),Standard & Pauper (Pioneer and Modern are degenerate trash formats)
STOP using "dude/bro" as a pejorative or insult. Grow up.
Margaret Thatcher: “The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
Benjamin Franklin: "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."
Martin Luther King Jr.: "I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character."
Lol I'm sure it has nothing to do with the city and much more likely Lovecraft....But a guy can get excited...

This card is FAR from a good sideboard card in control decks. The deal with leyline type cards is that you MUST pack 4 of them because in most decks they are dead cards if drawn past turn 1. This card is in the same boat, but unlike leyline of the void or leyline of sanctity, this card doesn't instantly win you the game. It more likely than not contributes to you losing the game, considering you could have put an actual useful sideboard card in this slot. In standard it is 100% unplayable.
The only reason I can see wanting to use this in Standard would be running it as a 4-of alongside Felidar Sovereign and Peace of Mind. With the 4-of you have a 40% chance of having one in your opening hand (35% if you mulligan to 6...but you have an overall 61% chance of getting one in your opening hand *or* mulligan to 6 and get one in your opening hand--not too bad). Anyway, if you start the game with 26 life then ignore your opponent and keep casting inexpensive spells like Chaplain's Blessing, Healing Hands, Linvala, Stone Haven Medic, Cleric of the Forward Order, Lantern Scout, and Prism Ring then by the time you have a Sovereign on the battlefield your life total should be >= 40. With Peace of Mind, of course, you can discard any Providences you don't need. That may not be fast enough to win the race against Collected Company decks but those aren't going to be in Standard for too much longer.
I can't see it being useful anywhere else...but the art is really good.
this set is trying way to hard to be wacky and different just for the sake of being wacky and different. Combine that with a healthy dose of eldrazi and cringeworthy story and you get an expansion that I'm not exactly fond of. September truly can't come fast enough.
Well, to each their own then. I like more wacky sets, have nothing against Eldrazi on Innistrad (I know, sacrilege, right?^^), think that the story is definitely not cringeworthy and like this card. Not as a playable card mind you, but as an interesting effect which sometimes will win a game in limited. This set seems to be experimenting with what could work in the future (see Merge for example) and therefore has more experimental design than usual, which I'm ok with. It's a bulk rare, yes, but as long as the card is at least interesting in design I wouldn't even mind much drawing it. And in my opinion it's definitely better than Archangel's Light (ok, low bar, I've got to admit that).
What I said was just my personal opinion, but I can nonetheless see where you're coming from and I'm happy for the folks who can dig this set. Your reply in general was clear, yet polite, a rarity in the times we live in.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
is it just me or is this not absolutely awful? Opening hand, its 0 mana gain 6 life and you have it for later, and it can turn the tides. I could see this as a sideboard/one-of card in heavy control decks.
Hey, maybe instead of doubling 13 to decide what number they should have the card set your life total at, they should have doubled 20. Maybe then it would be playable

Plus I've always been a sucker for free casting cost cards.

Pourquoi?
Because they're wrong. And dumb.
This, like almost every life gain card, is bad.
