Seriously, I'm close to linking that topic in my sig at this point.
You win the "I never read comments about past blocks and always believe I am correct in assessment while not understanding the concept behind cards and why people think they're bad" title.
And yes, while it is a long title, it goes to show how little you know/care/understand about past cards.
If you had any semblance of intellect, or the knowledge at least required to understand my problems with this card, you would have bothered to read up on it. But you didn't, don't, and won't.
I don't feel abrasive in posting this, as you were just as much. So when you respond to my comment, with the equal ignorance I am positive will ensue, keep in mind my silence towards it will be out of respect of not being banned, rather than (easily) proving you wrong.
HINT (since you won't be able to work it out on your own): there was a certain Mythic in the original block that was not received well for its rarity. This, while not Mythic, is said card 2.0
Wow. This is sure a post that someone made. But don't hold back, tell us how you really feel.
For edh this card is crap. For the same mana cost you can go back to 40 with resolute angel and get a flying body. I KNOW they worded it to stop stuff like Serra ascendant things. Maybe in limited it might be OK in some sort of grindy control deck..

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
You know, I'm a little confused. It's not a "4 of in every deck" card.... but it certainly is a sideboard card for control. Archangel's Light is awful in all situations(well almost 99.9% of situations), but this card is decent against aggro as control. It provides an extra cushion if in your hand and bounce back late game. The only situation against aggro where you dislike this card is on turn 2-4 draw. Now, it is true that this card doesn't really fit the meta right now, but who knows, maybe aggro will be "in" during the next two sets.
The problem with defining this format by what is "fun" is that everyone seems to define fun as what they don't lose to. If you keep losing to easily answered cards, that means you should improve your deck. If you don't want to improve your deck, then you should come to peace with the idea that you are going to lose because you chose to not interact with better strategies.
Pretty sure this card is a kind of Scornful Egotist idea. i.e. it's not really meant to ever be cast (though you may if you want/can) but to work with the themes of the block. In this case, to give you a totally free bonus at the beginning of the game and then be discarded for one of the many cards that feed off discard, diminishing a bit the impact of the inherent CA loss. In other words:
Providence0
Sorcery
You can only cast Providence during your first turn.
Providence cannot be countered by spells or abilities.
Your life total becomes 26.
The next time an effect would make you discard a card, you may not discard a card instead.(The effect still resolves)
Except that it is better than that because once in every blue moon, the real one will gain you 25 life or so in the late game and that would basically give you the win. I'm not saying it is a good card but it definitely exists for a reason.
I'm calling it right now- worst rare in the set. Even good limited players will find better bombs at common and uncommon no sweat. Worst. Episode. Ever.
I really do predict this to be our worst rare in set award winner. I'd be happier opening a jar of eyeballs, so I think anything worse is highly unlikely. This card wont just have zero constructed potential, but not be significantly better than a mass of ghouls in a draft.
this set is trying way to hard to be wacky and different just for the sake of being wacky and different. Combine that with a healthy dose of eldrazi and cringeworthy story and you get an expansion that I'm not exactly fond of. September truly can't come fast enough.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
This card is awful, and a shame they wasted such a good name on it.
I agree, I don't care if it's a bad card but it's a waste of a good name.
I have to third this. I saw the title and thought "oooh that sounds like a good green or white enchantment, and with that name it`s going to be good" .... nope.

When I hit my 3000 post mark, I'm gone for good.
Stay reasonable, be mindful of your expectations and don't feed the trolls.
If this is a sideboard card for Control, it simply proves how bad Standard environments have become, rather than how good this card actually is.
It's a card that gains life (traditionally good vs aggressive decks) that costs 7 mana (LUL)
There will have to be some incredibly heavy-bombing midrange decks for this viable. Which, to be fair, there MAY be, but.......
It's incredibly unlikely.
Elixir of Immortality at Uncommon would have been magnitudes-beyond-reasoning-level better.
Just saying.
I'd like to point out that current standard is a place where 1 drop mana dorks are too strong, 2 mana instant speed 3 damage to creature or player is too strong, and normal 2 drop instant speed conditional removal is too good. Yes standard is weak in power level right now. And in truth, there isn't anything wrong with that if you play standard or draft. You're right, Elixir of Immortality would be way better, but who knows how Wizard would view that card in the current meta. It might even be too powerful in their opinion.

Well, to each their own then. I like more wacky sets, have nothing against Eldrazi on Innistrad (I know, sacrilege, right?^^), think that the story is definitely not cringeworthy and like this card. Not as a playable card mind you, but as an interesting effect which sometimes will win a game in limited. This set seems to be experimenting with what could work in the future (see Merge for example) and therefore has more experimental design than usual, which I'm ok with. It's a bulk rare, yes, but as long as the card is at least interesting in design I wouldn't even mind much drawing it. And in my opinion it's definitely better than Archangel's Light (ok, low bar, I've got to admit that).
I just hate cards that gain life and do nothing else, because the only time they're conducive to winning the game is when you're about to lose, but buy the breathing room to turn it around immediately after. If you're not winning, this does nothing really change the dynamic, and if you're winning, it doesn't do anything but help you win by a larger margin.
About the only time starting with this in hand and getting the free 6 life is more than an inconvenience to your opponent is against burn, and I wouldn't run it as a sideboard because if you're not starting with it in hand, you're probably not getting to 7 mana to hardcast it, and it's a dead card in hand. So it ends up a double edged sword in the matchup it would be best against.
Many people guessed it must be 26 because 2x13 = 26.
No one has (in this thread) been taking a closed look at the artwork and commenting on it. There's two rows of candles: 13 in the upper and 13 in the lower.
No one commented on it because it's so obvious.

The use of this card is obvious; to be a hard counter to the 60x Chancellor of the Dross deck that is tearing up the Everything Goes format.

Sorry, where's the flavour? It's frankly kind of lazy to throw the number 13 everywhere just because, especially if it results in unplayable cards.
Yes, it is.
Setting your life total to a certain number is counted as gaining or losing the difference between the set number and your current life total.
So if you cast this at 6 life with a Leyline of Punishment in play, you'll remain at 6 life.
If you cast it at 36 life, you will drop to 26 life.
Don't worry about the whiners. Haters gonna hate.

And I'm sure it's a nod to HP Lovecraft too.
It most definitely is. Loving that as well, and I am a little bit ashamed it did not occur to me immediately when seeing it.
