I can imagine them making a new cycle of straight 4 color commanders, probably new Nephalim, with the 2nd commander cycle being two color cost for play and abilities like original Khans, along with printing the original nephalim.
I am only hoping that the land base isn't terrible for these Each with a Reflecting Pool would be very nice.
I'm mostly curious as to how the rarity on the new cards will break down, and how they will be separated and shared between decks. Since there's a lot more room for new cards to overlap but it's using the same 56 and 15 numbers of last year's decks.

I figure they will reprint the nephalim, but not make new legendary ones. The different commanders are always much more varied. I could see them doing FRF style legends, but I do want straight 4 color cost commanders too. I know that people say it's hard to figure out what 4 color means, but putting a shard and a clan together works as a way of thinking of a "card not being a color". A lot of the mechanics even play well together. I also thought you could have the flavor of two guilds teaming up. But a cycle tied to only one plane would be limiting again.
Mana bases might be an issue, but playing well against each other out of the box is the most important thing.
It's pretty exciting to have new options for themes and getting another color for tribal.

We do usually get two sets of new commanders, the main ones and the subset, so there would be room for both pure 4 color and with the Khans esque way of color identity. I think a new Nephalim cycle would be nice, but then again only as a callback to the only creatures that are like that, and to get those nephalim trible decks off the ground.
I'm hoping they don't look like Alesha, Who Smiles at Death, or have any weird off color abilities. I always found those cards hard to look at and a little confusing as far as the identities go. I'm hoping for straight-up quad color legends. Despite being "Goodstuff", I think if they really separate the Commanders and give each deck a theme, it could work really well.
WUBR - Doesn't care about creatures or lands, probably an instant/sorcery or artifact/enchantment deck.
UBRG - Doesn't care about white, peace, or order; could have crazy effects or graveyard manipulation.
BRGW - No Blue, likely involves combat or graveyard synergy. Likes to punish players who wait?
RGWU - No black, so I could see this being the new "friends" commander and could be helpful to other players possibly.
GWUB - No red, so probably a lot of long term strategy like counters or tokens or something.
While this is probably not the direction they're taking, I sincerely hope it is. Nephilim are weird but their build-around-ness would have been great for Commander.
You know they are just going to have vivids and guildgates maybe etbt trilands and call it a day. They are not going to put anything close to a valuable mana base in these products, they never do. They will be balanced to play well against each other in this regard.
So would these foils only be reprints or new guys too? I know there are some players who dislike foils.
Man, I hate foils. I was really looking forward to this until I saw the foil thing. I don't think I'll be getting these if the good cards are foil only.
Like others have said, I hope it's not just a cycle of four mana, four color legends. I hope they mix it up. There are so many ways to achieve a four color color identity - I'd love to see one of each.
- Two mana legend with hybrid mana cost (like R/W and B/U)
- Alesha style off-color triggered ability
- Multiple off-color activated abilities
- DFC with off-color back
- straight four mana
I've been asking for years for a four color legendary spider (Spiders have been printed in every color except blue), and this would be the perfect time to deliver. It could grant a bonus to all creatures with reach (like +1/+2 and deathtouch), or it could let you tap Spiders to create 0/1 Web tokens. This lets you avoid the trap of trying to make it feel four color just because.
I think it would be interesting if the new 4-color commanders each had 2 colors in their casting cast and had keyword abilities to support that color combination, and a 2-color activated ability to support the other 2 colors. Something, right off the top of my head, like...
Buff McHugeFist 5RG
Creatures you control have trample and haste. XWB, sac three creatures: Creatures you control get +X/+0 until end of turn.
6/4
This allows for a pretty wide design space for these 4-color commanders while also giving players numerous build-around options.
Something like (2/R)(2/W)(2/U)(2/B) would be nice, that way you can play it as 1, 2, 3, or 4 colors but costs 1 more for every color you drop.
That's slightly more feasible than a/b a/b c/d c/d hybrid. The main commanders are going to be ABCD, but I'm hoping that the alternative commanders are:
Cost AB
Activated 1: AC
Activated 2: BD
Meaning that the casting cost is still relevant to when the thing is out, but requires at least three colors to make it go.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.
PSA to everyone who keeps forgetting about the Reserved List:
You're on a website dedicated to talking about MtG. You're only a few keystrokes away from finding out what cards are on the Reserved List. You're also only a few keystrokes away from finding out why some cards on the Reserved List got foil printings in FtV, as Judge promos, or whatnot, as well as why that won't happen again. Stop doing this.
I and my playgroup are quite excited about the commander announcement. 4 color cards are one of the few gaps in the game, and it is nice that it will be filled. For those that feel 5 color is a viable alternative, I have to disagree; not only are their relatively few 5 color legends, but the absence of a color can be quite an interesting approach to defining the theme of the upcoming commanders.
As to how they will do it, I think it is likely they will all be a cycle of sorts, so we are unlikely to get a variety of approaches. Personally, I'm wondering if they will take the approach they did with Reaper King (hybrid colorless/colored cost) in an attempt to make them easier to cast.
I'm thinking/hoping to see some 4-color Dragons. Dragons are in all colors, and would definitely draw interest from those maybe not into 4-color but are into dragons.

Having at least some of the Trilands seems quite likely.
They could easily fit all of them in there. Each deck can use four, and each triland can fit in two decks. Of course, there is also the Lair cycle to consider.
Of course we'll probably see a lot of duals, otherwise there simply aren't enough mana fixing lands. I wonder if the Flood Plain and Battleland cycles will be included? I wouldn't dare suggest that theFetches be included, especially more than one. And hey, they just introduced a new mega cycle of uncommonduals, might as well use them where they can.
Landcycling cards, both basic and type-specific, will probably be commonplace to help with color fixing. WUBR especially will need those.

Or frogs! :-D There is no red frog! And so, if the Gitrog Monster means anything... we could have the epic clash of Frogs vs Spiders!!!

Trilands are totally in there. Each deck should have four, two shards and two wedges. RGWU for example should have Jungle Shrine, Seaside Citadel, Frontier Bivouac, and Mystic Monastery. I also expect we'll see Command Tower and Commander's Sphere return.
