The fact that this is a strictly better Veteran's Sidearm (and Leonin Scimitar) is pretty surprising. I thought wizards was super cautious about equipment now.
Hard to say it is strictly better. It does have an upside of becoming better than a leonin cimitar in stats, but once it flips the equip is 3, so it is hard to compare. In any case, very interesting limited card, maybe if there is an aggro-transform archetype in constructed it could see play? Heh, not holding my breath though.

Would you like to read Commander stories? Check my latest stories, coming from Lorwyn and Innistrad: Ghoulcaller Gisa and Doran, The Siege Tower! If you like my writing, ask me to write something for your commander as well!
This looks pretty nice for Werewolves, actually! The only thing that sucks is that if your creature dies, you probably won't want to be spending the mana to re-equip in that sort of deck, so it's a nice explosive card but will be easily disrupted. It gives you something to do other than casting a spell though, which will help transform your werewolves.
Ahhh, I do love me some transforming equipment. Cool name too, though I am not quite sure I get the flavor.
'Old battered family relic is junk OWAIT ITS THIS COOL FIRE SWORD!'
That the jist?
I like that we will get to see cards that care about other cards transforming. Fun

The true mind can weather all the lies and illusions without being lost. The true heart can tough the poison of hatred without being harmed. Since beginning-less time, darkness thrives in the void but always yields to purifying light.
I invision a future where one is not mighty when he can silence a crowd with brutality,
but when he leaves them speechless with wisdom.
t2- heir of falkenrath
t3- play and equip neglected heirloom, discard and play fiery temper, transform heir and heirloom, swing with a 6/5 first striking flyer?
Yeah, that seems reasonable, especially if your alternate sequences include incorrigible youths and/or ravenous bloodseekers. I guess we just need a 1 mana creature with an easy to activate (madness enabling?) 0 mana transform trigger and a black or red (vampire?) basking rootwalla to make for a fundamentally unfair b/r aggro deck?

But it's *definitely* boring considering it's a freaking DFC Equipment!

Having noncreatures transform is cool (also considering they made a sorcery transform now.
Read my other stories as well (some ongoing):
Reaper King (a horror story), Kaalia of the Vast (an origin story), Sequels for Innistrad (Alternative sequels for Inn), Grey Areas (Odric's fanfic), Royal Succession (goblins),The Tracker's Message (eldrazi on Innistrad) and Ugin and his Eye (the end of OGW).
That said, I presume it'd excellent with Werewolves.

No, they never actually transform (in the sense of the keyword action). They exile themselves then enter the battlefield transformed.
No, because the exile happens first. The equipment doesn't 'see' the transformation.

Seems like...Oh this is a piece of Garbage, but in the right hands...it can unlock its hidden potential
And I'm starting to wonder if maybe he's the owner of The Little Shop That Wasn't There Yesterday.
Not even Ebrus had impact beyond commander.
Agreed, that's probably the best use for it right now. Brutal.

Equipping it to Avacynian Missionaries isn't shabby, either.
