I am worried of the Modern player base leaving and going to the new format.
I don' think that would be the case at all, it's sort of like thinking that all edh players turned into tiny leaders players... The new format would be it's own thing and it can coexist with other formats without "stealing" players.
This was primarily due to Tiny Leaders being figured out pretty quickly. Essentially they were Dual Commander decks minus the nonsense. I think if they decided that they wanted to heavily support a new format that was a combination of Legacy and Modern, most Modern players would flock to it and as such, LGS wouldn't host Modern tournaments anymore and would host the new format instead.
There is a possibility that's exactly what they want.
>Here's this new format where you can play Force, Wasteland, Port, Entomb, Daze, Walletsculptor and don't worry if Duals, City of Traitors and LED are inaccessible, they're banned!
One year later:
>Hey people, it's Modern-shaking time again but we don't want to keep shaking it so much anymore, can we just drop the Modern PT instead? What, nobody cares? Yay!
Eternal solves too many of their problems for it to not be in their minds already.
The real question is, will this thread be the longest rumor mill thread ever?
For sure. It hits all the hot topic buttons, Modern, WotC messing things up, Spoilers, Reserve List, MTG Financials, Rarity shifting, Buyout Speculation... all the good stuff.

That sounds more like doom and gloom as I think you're not giving a reason why would players switch formats in such large quantities. Even if duals and a couple of legacy staples would be banned, the format is completely different, like asking someone to ditch standard for modern, while the truth is that although there are modern only players as standard only players, those demographics more often than not overlap. What I think is the most possibly outcome is that more edh players move to new legacy (as edh seems to grab the most nostalgic players) than modern players...
So for something a bit different, let's look at the the Development team and their pedigree to see what to expect in a way.

So it seems that they have taken a decent roster of people who have worked on reprint sets in the past (Be it MTGO's Vintage Masters, Tempest Remastered, Modern Masters, or MTGO Masters Edition). Further, Aaron Forsythe being involved is interesting; his last major projects were Commander 2015, M15 and the original Modern Masters. They are at least partially concerning themselves enough to get who is ostensibly the highest ranking MTG employee involved with the R&D process, which to me indicates they are putting a good deal of effort to ensure it's a well-received product. Still, the inclusion of the members involved with MM2015 concerns me as well; the set was largely panned by many for quite a few reasons, and it's draft format wasn't particularly good.
Tom Lapille is the lead concept and designer, with previous lead projects in Born of the Gods, Modern Masters 2015, Masters Edition III, Oath of the Gatewatch, Archenemy, and Dragons of Tarkir. Adam Prosak is the lead Developer, with lead positions in Tempest Remastered and Legendary Cube.
So make of this information as you will. Overall, I am somewhat not impressed with the pedigree I see here, personally. There are a lot of people involved with both the Design and Development sides of some of the worst sets to have been released in some time(Born of the Gods and Dragon's Maze stand out), as well as sets that I personally view were riddled with mistakes (Modern Masters 2015). That said, Forsythe's involvement is interesting; he has been around for a long time, R&D'd a wide variety of sets of all sorts (Many of which were quite beloved), and was most importantly involved with the development of Modern Masters 2013 (Although not perfect, was actually quite a good set all things considered). I can't really speak to the newer blood in the team, though, nor can I speak to the MTGO releases (Someone else can give their opinion on that).
The entire set list is already spoiled, but not 'confirmed'. I am 99% sure the list is legit though. I am sure it will get an official post on these forums soon.

I also assumed that is the list he was speaking of. The list had Cursed Scroll as a rare which is on the reserve list so the list is a fake. If it is a different list, then it may be true, but the one most people have seen was considered to be fake.
Pretty disappointed to see FOW moving from uncommon to mythic...
Also the price of 10 bucks is not respectful of old magic players, in the end what about realizing that printing a FOW has the same cost of printing a grizzly bear?
Hope at least they will not take care of reserved list anymore. I mean, the set name is supposed to be related to its content right? New fuel for legacy and vintage players, helping as well new people to get in a format reprinting cards from a past when they were not even born
You're missing the fact that many people make their livelihood off of mtg. If local stores start regularly losing thousands of dollars because the value of their stock is being depreciated by Yugioh style reprints than those stores are going to stop dealing in magic cards. In Yugioh we have instances of cards that were once worth over a hundred dollars each dropping down to $5 almost over night. As someone who has played both games I can safely say that one of the main reasons that Yugioh has basically died out is because Konami did not care at all about the secondary market. Their reprint policies were shortsighted, everything was done to make a quick buck at the expense of the secondary market. The secondary market keeps the game afloat though. The game will fail without people willing to put money into it, without places to play, and without a reason to buy packs. When I played I never bought packs because any card I ever wanted was either dirt cheap or would be dirt cheap in a month due to their reprint policies with tons and such.
I cannot verify independently if LGS tournaments for YuGiOh have dwindled significantly, but I believe that has not affected Konami's sales of YuGiOh that dramatically. There are people still buying cards that is not dependent on LGSes running tournaments.
Although that list is from spring 2015, YuGiOh was in third place. It may be a distant third from WotC sales, but Konami still seems to be fine. So, I don't believe that secondary markets keep games afloat. If the game is popular enough and accessible, then the game manufacturer continues to thrive through sales of sealed product. In this scenario, instead of LGSes making money selling singles, they make money simply selling the sealed product in volume. And if a LGS needs singles to sustain itself, then I think the store's business plan is vulnerable.
I don't get what Wizards is doing with this set. They cannot print cards from the RL. Assuming dual lands drop $100 each, we have ~300,000 of each dual land printed X 10 dual lands X $100 = $300,000,000 in potential damages, more when you consider other RL cards and legal expenses to fight multiple lawsuits across multiple countries. And their word would mean nothing in the future. There is no way WOTC will take that kind of risk. And if they were willing, this set would have been the time to do it. So they are printing a bunch of cards usable in a format that is inaccessible to a lot of people. What are people going to do with all these cards they cannot use unless they are at a big disadvantage not having the necessary dual lands/power to be competitive? They will complain even more about the RL. This seems very short sited on behalf of WOTC. Maybe speculation about a new no-reserve list format is onto something. But that has it's own problem of distributing current eternal/modern players across another format, something also not good for the game. Having as few formats as possible is the best way to ensure that there are enough people in an area that play the same format to hold good tournaments, etc...

Okay let us see your CONTRACT with hasbro, double checked with your signature and their. If you don't have you are talking about nothing.
DEFINITION of 'Promissory Estoppel' The legal principle that a promise is enforceable by law when the promisor (person making the promise) makes a promise to the promisee (person being promised) who relies on it to his or her detriment.
This is discussed in other threads concerning the RL. You don't need an actual contract signed by both parties. A promise can be enough.
If Wizards is really serious about supporting Legacy, they don't need to drop the Reserved List. Far and away, the most heavily played cards on the list are the ABU duals. Wizards should just make versions that are strictly better than the shocklands but worse than the ABU duals -- specifically, dual lands with both subtypes but ones which you must only pay 1 life instead of 2 for it to enter the battlefield untapped. Call them "Gut Shot Lands" or "Flame Jab Lands" or, if you want to get Rosewater all worked up, "Hornet Sting Lands." Just print them in a Commander or Conspiracy type product and call it a day.

I agree completely. I have heard other in the past promote the idea of Legendary Duals. Basically just a dual land that is legendary so only one can be on the board at one time. That way you can fetch these first with no life loss and then get your shock lands. Then if they are removed by a land removal spell or ability the opponent knows there are, most likely, no other copies in your deck. It sounded like a cool idea to me. I haven't gone through what affect that would have yet, but it's an idea I thought I would share.
I just wish Modern and other competitive formats with prize support wouldn't make cards like these such an agonizing ordeal to get for us Vorthos EDH players. It's a casual format with no incentive to win, but the crossovers just kill me. I hope FOW, Asuza, and whatever other cool (and especially new-art) cards in this set will be reasonably priced for a while. Because it's tiring to compete with people who need 4 copies of this or that to win tournaments with when you just need one to play a cool looking card with your friends...
But I do agree Yugioh-style reprints would also be catastrophic to MTG. It's a tough balancing act. I'll have to wait and see. But as someone who played Yugioh for 12 years, everything that Konami does (and to a greater extent, what it never manages to ever do) is a phenomenal failure.

And watch those products be exceedingly difficult to get, those lands to be very expensive and MTGS lose it's mind

I'd think even that's too much of a drawback. If we're looking for something that can take the place of the ABUR duals in Legacy without obsoleting shocklands in Modern or Commander, the drawback really shouldn't involve life. Maybe it should be something like "when this ETB, exile the top card of your library" or give them all a third placeholder subtype & "when this enters the battlefield, exile the top card of your library for each ~type~ you control". Something not relevant except as a RL dodge.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
They could even have a silly benefit like "When it enters the battlefield, you may look at the bottom card of your library" It would be better than an original dual, but I really doubt Cellar Door or Grenzo would start tearing up legacy.

Force of Will was basically a rare in Alliances, they had different levels of uncommona back then. Also under today's rarity I would say it has mythic qualities. I opened a box of Alliances and got two Forces... Wish I was Marty McFly and kept all my FOW's and LED's the later being a bulk rare until it became broken in certain decks.
Fireblast with the Vintage Masters art will be great. Also, Chain Lightning's art from the Premium Deck Series wasn't so bad, but a new art wouldn't hurt. Also, a new art for Price of Progress please.

Would all the ABUR duals reprinted as snow covered Legendary lands break the Reserve List rules? And would they be enough for people to play Legacy?
The reserved list has an implicit message attached to it, namely that they try not to print/reprint cards in such a way as to massively or rapidly devalue collections (try being a key word here ). Based on that, wizards is almost guaranteed not to do as you described. HOWEVER, if they actually did what you described, it would likely make legacy more popular, and consequently make the ABUR duals more expensive; it is not a risk wizards is ever likely to take.
