Trick Jarrett said on twitter that they are holding back on the expansion symbol for a while, so it's not a mistake that it's not here. Does this mean that it could be something to do with Emrakul's "head" (+ the moon?) like Oaths symbol was Kozilek's? If not, then why hold it back.
Eldritch has very direct ties with the Lovecraftian/Cthulhu mythos. We have already seen form the flavor text of Structural Distortion:
"As Zendikar has bled, so will innistrad. As I have wept, so will Sorin."
-Nahiri
My theory is that Nahiri came across Emrakul in the Blind Eternities and led her to Innistrad. According to the MTG Wiki, Emrakul is the Titan of corruption. She twists all living things, causes silent terror, Embodies desolation, emotional/physical disturbance, the chill of the void and the fear of being alone.
Those characteristics seem to fall in line with the mechanics of Madness and Delirium. They also fit very well into the established vibe of Innistrad. Nahiri herself could be under Emrakul's influence. The set being named Eldritch Moon could mean that the Gatewatch (Liliana now a member) have managed to imprison Emrakul in Innistrad's moon. It also fits well having Sorin now have his homeplane imprisoning an Eldrazi as Nahiri's once did (Zendikar)
I am just excited to have MTG finally explore some Lovecraftian themes.
Sorin would make more sense to join the Gatewatch since he would have more of a responsibility to protect Innistrad than Liliana would.
I am trying to get better at making decks. I have had trouble creating more competitive decks as I only really build with the cards I have. I dont have that many value cards, in function or expense. I (almost) never play at FNM type events so its not like im playing against $2k decks. If I do usally play at one, Its a draft or limited game. Any advice on building decks is greatly supported! DMs are appreciated.
Thank you!
To put it more simply, it's like saying, "I can prove Jesus is real and loves you. See? Here's my Hispanic friend Jesus. He's had a crush on you for a long time. Tell em' Jesus."
Here's a joke! Whats the internal temperature of a Taun-Taun?
while i love the theme, it still bothers me that WOTC says "we are not doing any more arabian night things because we want our own lore" and now pretty much steals from the work of lovecraft (eldrazis, eldritch, shadows...etc)
Nice to see I am not the only one genuinely excited about the lovecraftian vibe of this block as a whole (from what we know so far). Let's just hope Creative can execute the story appropriately (though I am highly skeptical here).
Also, this is positively the first time the word eldritch has been used in Magic. I always thought they didn't use it in order not to evoke any associations with weird fiction and/or games based on it, so this might be a genuine expanding of the flavour palette.

Because Lovecraft totally has the copyright of the words "eldritch" and "shadow".
not getting the expansion symbol and the pinkish lettering (emrakul's famous pinky-core-glow) are actually getting me a little worried about Emrakul showing up for the first time.
I still dont think its going to happen, but these little things make me wonder..

R&D names them one-word names while being worked on.
When BfZ was a three-block design, the codes for them were Blood (BfZ), Sweat (OtG) and Tears. When they changed it to two blocks, Tears became the Innistrad Block (SoI) and got a second block they named Fears (EM).
Of course, the titles themselves are mildly nonsensical except to go together. Blood, Sweat and Tears; the latter becoming Tears (for) Fears.

You do remember those blocks they did based on Greek mythology and gothic horror, right? The problem with Arabian Nights wasn't that it was inspired by existing works. It was that it directly used the characters in them.
I have neither the skill to correctly and accurately analyze this set in the context of current and future formats after 12 hours of exposure, nor the hubris to delude myself into believing that I do.
Did people really not think Liliana was going to be absent from this block? She's one of the premiere Origins planeswalkers. I very much doubt any of those five will skip more than one block.

There's a difference between an homage to Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos and a set that literally just takes people, places, and things directly from the source material and puts them on a card (Ali from Cairo, Bazaar of Baghdad).

I guess the problem with Arabian Nights is that it wasn't a set inspired on the Arabian theme, it was a essentialy a Copy and Paste from the existing story. We might get the Arabian Nights flavor eventually, but it would have to be an actual MtG plane with elements borrowed from other sources.
The ground grew swampy; hooves and claws sank into the marshy earth. Snarls of rage and bleats of despair echoed through the trees as the waters grew higher and higher.

Likely to account for the dual-faced cards. Makes me wonder if only Jace and Liliana will be the only members of the Origins 5 present (or at least getting cards) in this block with Chandra, Nissa, and Gideon taking a break. If so, that leaves room for 3 other non-Origins walkers to have cards.
Jace, Liliana, Nahiri, Sorin and everyone's favorite swole bro, Garruk, filling the Green quota. Wildly guessing this version of Nahiri will be White/Red and thoroughly pissed off.
I will laugh if we get a Lili is not the source of the madness and is using the zombie hordes to fight the angels that have gone mad, or Nahiri or whoever is behind the madness
No seriously I would be damn happy to have a "bad" angels vs. "good" monsters.

Thanks to DarkNightCavalier from Heroes of the Plane Studios for this sick Signature.
Still not fond of Innistrad in general, but that Lili art is gorgeous and the pink font is simply fabulous! Cool set name as well, it seems so unique compared to what we're used to.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Erm, I had a thought. What if this set has nothing to do with the Eldrazi, and more to do with the corruption of the Chain Veil or the raven man that appeared in Liliana's origin story.
Im so glad she is going to be around this block:D makes me chuckle to think of folks who were basically screaming at anyone who would guess she might be involved [even without appearing on a card]. Chuckle chuckle chuckle.

I really really want to know why in the world is Liliana going back to Innistrad.
She has the Veil that is boring through her mind, she has 2 more demons to dispatch so she can be free of her contract, she is being hunted down by Garruk...
Last time she came to Innistrad she made it plenty clear that all she wanted was to get rid of Griselbrand and get the next big demon on the list.
Out of every single priority she has, why would she waste her time back on a plane she has no business with...?
