both this and seer's lantern give you two colorless mana rocks at common. With all the 4-6 mana cost eldrazi options that should make for something interested in limited. On one hand we've spoiled a *lot* of big colorless eldrazi so far, but on the other hand they're all rare or mythic rare. But with that much redundancy it wouldn't be hard to open bombs. Will be interesting to see what kind of power is in the common/uncommon big eldrazi if there are any, because the BFZ ones were so pathetic at 8+ cmc
You might have made a thing, but that doesn't mean this isn't just a 2 mana 0/1 with " : Add to your mana pool." This should have at least been a functional reprint of Manakin.

Yes, this really rubs me the wrong way with the bemoaning MaRo makes over losing card names. There's an existing number of viable alternatives in this slot that would've functioned very similarly (and possibly even more synergistically within the Limited environment): Manakin Mind Stone Prismatic Lens Thought Vessel
The whole "we have to make bad cards for Limited and to make other cards look good" argument is wearing a bit thin at this point when there's already enough bad cards to recycle that haven't seen a reprint ever. It's the equivalent of printing Unhinged-style half-mana basic lands because suddenly "basic lands are too good." Magic players can judge the basic resources well enough. There's a reason we don't see Eager Cadet or Squire getting a reprint anymore.
In this limited enviroment, this card is incredibly powerful. Not only it produces C, but it is also colorless, which is very relevant. Obviously it can't be 1 mana - manaelves are green's domain. Also, this is the most important card for Wastes archetype, so it can't be first-pickable in other decks. For standart, 1/1 vs 0/1 is hugely irrelevant, because 2-mana dorks are not playable anyway(probably), but in limited that's a huge gap. So making it a 0/1 seems logical.

Wizards can start putting booster packs inside dog poo and dog owners will still complain.

This is why people tend to dislike modern commons design, because the lack of competitive cards at common. Used to be able to get a lot of good cards at common, nowadays you don't get much work until you hit uncommon. Which while it may sell packs, it makes building an early collection more difficult as well as creating more "waste" cards that are not used after a draft or chunked off or thrown away.
I preferred the old design for commons, rather than the series of nerfs and the repurposing that has happened over the years with the move from Block to Limited as the focus of sets.

Life is a beautiful engineer, yet a brutal scientist.
Flavor text: 10/10.
Also, for those asking why, I'm pretty sure they made it a 0/1 as opposed to a 1/1 to balance it. "T: Add 1 to your mana pool" is just more powerful in this draft environment than in any other.
But that's not the case here. It can't be 1-CMC, because only green can ramp at one mana. So the only variable is stats. Again, 2/1 is taken by Leaf Gilder(Mirrodin Myrs are the exception, but that's just because of the plane's mechanical identity), so it's either 0/1 or 1/1. At this point, you chuck it away after draft anyway.
Of course, that's not always the case - the common sphinx spoiled today could be definitely pushed further were it not for limited. But here the limited boogeyman has little to do with card's design.

If this was a 2 mana 1/1, I think it would be a higher pick for everyone. As is, it's a higher pick for people who are going the colorless route and people who aren't in colorless are less likely to grab it.

But a 1/1 is balanced. This is the only set where creating is not worse than creating , but that doesn't mean it's better. Making this a Mana Myr is not overpowered.

How do you know that? Have youdrafted the set already?

Spiderhedron, spiderhedron, does whatever spiderhedron does. Can he make a colorless mana? Yes he can, he is a hedron.
I think Wizards isn't printing mana dorks at 1 anymore.
BUT...
Can any vorthos-types explain to me what this is?
