Well this is a certainly a nice angel, I like the art and everything. But with the original Linvala being one of my favourite angels in Magic, I just don't think this one feels like Linvala. Both the art and abilities feel like it is someone else, not Linvala.
But oh well, still a good card. No idea what it might or might not do in constructed.

Does not really give an homage of what the old Linvala was about. At least Avacyn 2.0 had some sort of "guardian" aspect in preventing damage vs indestructible. Also if you are barely ahead, this won't give you a better lead. I was hoping for a mono white legend in this set but was not ready for a mythic "fixed" Thragtusk.
Although it would be back breaking if for flicker effects if you REALLY behind. But I don't think that's worth it to be in such a bad position to be in.

To the people that say that a card needs to be a higher rarity because of Limited... I hate you guys so much. I present to you with this.
If her abilities were "always on" that would be a pretty insane rate. 8 power and toughness spread across two reasonably sized evasive bodies and 5 life to boot for only 6 easy to produce mana would be an instant consideration. Compare the fully powered version of Linvala, the Preserver to Broodmate Dragon. She is not that since you have to be behind in order to get full value. The most likely scenario in my mind is that she is a 5/5 flyer with 5 life stapled on for 6 mana or simply a 5/5 flyer for 6- neither option is very good. The scenarios where you get the angel token are places that you don't want to be in the first place, and playing a card simply because it is ok when you need to catch up is not really fantastic, especially when considering the quality of the threats in the meta by comparison.
This card is insanely good. This is going to be the next Baneslayer Angel for control decks in Standard and possibly even Modern.
Constructed chase rare for sure.
Think about it this way: in a control deck, 98% of the time at this point in the game (6 mana) you're getting 8 power / 8 toughness with flying, AND 5 life. And that 8/8 is split across two bodies, which makes it even better (a la WIngmate Roc, Broodmate Dragon, Thragtusk, etc.) That's really good.
I feel like 5cmc would have been better, it has obvious restrictions with being Legendary, so a drop in the cost wouldn't break it. Either way, it's a finisher, that is for sure. At your 6 drop, you are potentially getting 8 flying power and 5 life, that's incredible in this Standard environment. It's unexciting at mythic, but not absolute garbage either. It will definetly make its way into my EDH decks.
I feel like I'm buying bulk quantities of paper towels at costco reading this card. In other words, yes, it is providing value... but what a boring card. The mythic slot is being used for slight variations on old rares now?
Gameplay people around here finding her boring and the weird centering of the art aside, Home Girl finally got on her some more decent battle clothes! Gideon's Surplus from Bant/Boros' impact!

It makes me sad that cards like this can't see play in edh because they don't win enough.
It's not even that. It's that it's boring. In a lot of cases it'll be a 5/5 flyer for 6 and that's it. In some cases it'll be that plus 5 life (boring and weak) or a 3/3 flyer (boring and weak). Best case scenario is that you get the whole package and if you do, you just blew 6 mana on something that really doesn't do anything interesting. Now, if she had something like "At the beginning of your upkeep if an opponent has more life gain 1-2 life and if an opponent has more creatures get a 1/1 bird" I would be a lot more inclined to think it would see play. Why? Because life gain triggers are as important as life gain and 1 trigger for 5 is way less powerful/interesting/synergistic than 3 triggers for 1 life each. Same goes for the creatures.
Again, it's not so much that it "doesn't win enough" nearly as much as it doesn't do enough to offset the fact that it doesn't win enough. If you play a card it's because it does "something" and this one just doesn't do enough to make it make the cut when you are chopping out all but 100 cards in the history of the game.
But I loved the card too. It's a shame it can't be blinked with Restoration Angel, but being conditional the more you use it, the more unlikely it is that you will meet the condition again.
Anyway, that's 8 power across two bodies with evasion and 5 extra life. This is a nightmare for every deck trying to race you or win with efficient 1-for-1 removal spells.
Just remember that people laughed at Wingmate Roc. Granted, I don't think Linvala will be quite as good, given that her conditions aren't as easily met and she's more expensive, but don't be so quick to count her out.

That is true, but these cards don't really go in the same deck. Maybe somewhere there is a place for her....either way I think she has a cool ability and it would be nice to see more of this type of thing in white
This card actually seems decent against aggressive decks, particularly red ones. However, red currently has Atarka's Command, which really messes with the lifegain ability.
Expect it to gain more influence when the Command rotates.

These days, some wizards are finding they have a little too much deck left at the end of their $$$.

What? Who?
I remember wingmate roc as one of the extremely obvious "Look this card was built to be more efficient than the others with a ton of lines of upside text"
Really a boring mythic and legendary creature. As a six mana legendary creature, she should have had Vigilance at least. They should add Vigilance and Lifelink to make this feel mythic worthy.

Actually early on it did not expect to see played. It started being played because of its ability to fight against Abzan's walkers as it beat both Elspeth, Sun's Champion and Sorin, Solemn Visitor while being resistant to removal by coming in pairs. The stats on it ended up being very successful up until they flooded dragons all over the place and then it became a sideboard card because of dragon decks.
It ended up being situationally good for what was needed for a brief period of time and then it still remained a good sideboard option against that deck.

well it would be crazy at the 2HG pre releases... lol
Huh? Wouldn't Trostani almost always be ahead in both creatures *and* life total?

How times changed.
From lawmaker to hippie girl who drags her girlfriend to weed parties.
This is part of the reason why Wizards keep making past cards (great, expensive ones) harder and harder to acquire.
Let us all presume the next printing of Thragtusk will be mythic too. Since the Thragfather is strictly better.

It's powerful for sure but it's very conditional.
It's the card you use to beat Atarka red except you're probably dead 9 times out of 10 before you hit 6 mana.
Another card with too many mana symbols to ever be taken seriously.
