I dunno, love the Event Horizon feel of the new Strip Mine. And jellyfish > merfolk, but true 1 is better than <>.
Here's to me being right on this Nissa being overrated like the last one (called it then too), shame there's no Jace for me to be right about being good again this time too.
Well then, since you're so good at seeing cards for what they are, how is Chandra?
A bit too expensive IMO, even if abilities are nice. +1 is meh but her 0 and "ultimate" are good. Unfortunately upticking isn't gonna happen much with her I don't think and she may just be a Slice and Dice by the time she drops
Chandra is going to be very good in the RG Eldrazi deck for Standard: even her +1 works great there because the deck has a lot of big beaters that the opponent needs to block.
I love how all the people calling her bad simply look at the card in a vacuum and try to sound smart doing so.
Well, WotC has pubilically stated they will not do half cycles in regards to lands anymore. and the fact that the ther five new duals can never be made expiditions is rather infuriating.
And yet we had 5/10 fetches in Khans block.
This is a complete cycle anyways, allied lands.
Plus no way we get 8 rare enemy duals in a small set.
Love that Strip Mine (looks like something out of Event Horizon) and Sunken Ruins. But do I trade off my FtV and pack foil for them?
No. OG foil ftw, I've already told you this before. Not to mention ugly diamond symbol. I think most people will prefer the old versions of these cards just because of that diamond.
While strip mine does look nice I am quite partial to the FTV version myself.
I on the other hand probably need to save money for a Kor Haven/Fire-lit Thicket or Heath. Beautiful...

Hmmm who is the 2nd most played/best flip walker? Nissa. Who is going to get played quite a bit? This Nissa. She's not being overrated. Tokens +Gavony Township is great.
Second best in a cycle that had only one GOOD card (and I don't consider good in Standard or even modern to be good, I mean real Magic, eternal formats) isn't saying much.
Flying, Trample.
When Spiritbreaker Demon comes into play, put the top four cards of your library into your graveyard.
(This las sentence needs help) "Koyo" - At the beginning of your upkeep, if there are four or more cards in your graveyard, you lose 4 life.
I can totally understand the argument about future sight lands, they are not really a cycle since they are all different in what they do and how they do it , but I still have that kind of incomplete aftertaste regarding the battle lands
But there isn't necessarily going to be another cycle of Battlelands ever anyway.
The lands that destroy lands are powerful and expensive cards, people ought to be very happy if they open one (even Tec Edge is a lot less so). As far as the other battlelands it is a bit of a shame but I doubt they are never doing this kind of a promotion ever again: just like with Mythic Rares, having something extra rare is pretty exciting and a great way to move product which is what WotC is in the business of.
Even if they do something similar, they wont do it every set. and it wont be expedition frame and such, thus the cycle will never be complete and im sure that will upset a lot more people than me.
Not to mention, Im fairly positive that the expeditions are the main reason the set is and will sell. The sets so far are pretty terrible. All wizards did was make the richer players happy while flaunting something in front of the average player that they can only hope to pull and never actually afford.
</blockquote>
BFZ is an awesome draft environment and Standard looks to be doing quite well even if, it's true, the set isn't super powerful. Not sure how anyone can complain about this set with what we just go tonight, a ton of great stuff landed on our laps.
</blockquote>
Look at the Worlds top8 decklists, cut Gideon and Battle Lands, apart from them what is really playing from BFZ beside 2 uncommons from rally decks?
If they didn't printed money (fullart, expeditions) both sets could be a failure of epic proportions?
I don't think they should make a turbulent transition with the standard changes like this, smells like a design slip to me.
Unknown French Land with "2, T: Draw a card. Activate this ability only if you have no cards in hand"
This translates to Sea Gate Ruins [hyperliteral: Ruins of Gate of Seas]. Given that Sea Gate has canonically been destroyed, the art, name, and effect all jibe.
Really liking the new Chandra, especially that 0 ability. Glad to see her and that they're actually using more of red's repitoire with her.
Dat Sphinx, into my Narset EDH, now.
I honestly feel like Nissa would have felt a whole lot better if the token she makes was a 1/1. She just feels off to me as she is.
Geist of Saint Traft reprint is nice, even though the art is kinda bad. The demon looks pretty cool too, looking forward to SOI a lot.
New Chandra is what Chandra Ablaze should have been. Especially considering Zendikar's first go-around was the harbinger of the insane power creep we see today
Maybe I'm getting too old for this, but the design for all these mythics seems messy. I don't mean necessarily bad, but just clunky. Look at Kalitas! So much rules text in one card, can't you just make it simple? Even the sphinx of final word is a little bit messy. Granted, some mythic cards have tremendous amount of rules text, such as primeval bounty, but I miss the simple stuff like essence of the wild. Unique and yet simple.
In any case, that rant aside, I would say that about the spoilers: Nissa looks really, really bad. Can't see why I would ever want to run her, even in a token deck she seems mediocre. Maybe more support will show up or maybe she will be great, but I'd be shocked. Chandra is interesting. I do think that her abilities are a little bit conflictuous: the first one seems good for a big red aggro plan, the second more for a control/burn shell and the third for a pure control deck. I don't know, it is a little bit all over the place kinda like chandra, pyromaster was, but this time costing six mana. I think she will see play though, probably in a red control shell. Kozilek's return is absolutely nuts in the proper deck (that deck being a GR ramp eldrazi deck). It answers the board early, protecting you from small beatdown and, when you need to tap out for the big eldrazi on the late game, it also answers the board again. Pretty versatile, I don't think it will be a four-of, but certainly two copies will end up somewhere. Kalitas looks like absolute crap and I don't think the sphinx has any shell to be used right now. I'd rather have Ojutai's in my deck than this dude. The seven mana eldrazi is just bad.

Don't really care about what she can do in the mother of all non-formats. I was referring to *ahem* better formats. Being a 6 drop isn't gonna get her very far there.
tap, pay one life: And one mana of any color to your mana pool. Use this mana only to play spells with devoid.

Why would wizards do this? Go through all the trouble of making a CDA that makes any card synergize with "colorless matters" cards, and then make this land something other than a colorless matters card.

And that is exactly what is bothering me !
Yeah... Ever since the first Battle Lands were spoiled, I've been waiting for my (B/G) one. Now, I might never get it.

Don't really care about her performance in the worst format in Magic. I was referring to *ahem* better formats.
Besides, she doesn't even kill Siege Rhino...
Oh you must mean limited: the only format that doesn't allow for netdecking, has very high interaction and requires the player to have a shifting scale to evaluate cards while drafting all while paying attention to the signals?
Who I am kidding, of course you don't. You mean mostly solved formats that don't require much thinking outside of simply playing linear strategies.

Sir, would it be possible to discuss spoilers without derailing the discussion to BFZ's power level or which format is better? (A completely unrelated discussion to this topic). I know you are not the only one involved, but just don't feed the trolls, please. This is rumor mill, discuss the cards and their applications, don't just come here to complain about how other people might think a card is too weak for something.

Incanur: They're not going to put the tangolands in OGW when they'll completely ruin the format even further. Most likely, the remaining tangos will be in SOI or something similar.
I do wish, though, that they would print enemy members of land cycles before ally ones.

You don' really get that I'm talking about expeditions ? A very rare and unique set of foil alternate-art non-standard-playable cards that had a never-done-before type of dual lands ?
How can that cycle be completed if we don't have the 10 combinations ? You don't get my point there ?
And you would have a point if the third-wheel lands were a cycle of 10, but they are not. They are a complete cycle of 5 allied color dual lands, and all 5 of them are Expeditions. There's nothing unfinished about it. Did you complain about there only being a cycle of allied legendary dragons/elder dragons in Fate Reforged and Dragons of Tarkir?

Looking at the WC's Top 8 decks only is also silly, lots of ways to enjoy the game and have success outside of copying the pros.
Now I'm not disagreeing that BFZ is on the weaker side of recent sets, what I am arguing is that it doesn't matter that much.
Besides, she doesn't even kill Siege Rhino...
