Is there a solid token deck in Standard? I was under the impression that Secure the Wastes deck had sort of fallen out of favour with the emergence of RG Eldrazi
The lands in his block continue to be great, it was unfortunate that last set the enabling of the crazy mana bases means the sweet spell lands from BFZ don't see much play.

Esper tokens with Monastery Mentor , Gideon, ally of zendikar, Ob nixilis and BW manland with blue counterspells in backup made a good performance at some GP I forgot the name
I ask because I feel Nissa is only good in token strategies and that deck doesn't even run Green
Unless she enables a Green-based token deck I say she flops for Standard. Three drop means she might actually see play in Modern in something like GW hatebears maybe?
I believe it was Sam Stoddard who said that they are trying out expanding what Red can do. Part of this is removing power from its burn spells, which is why we don't have a Lightning Strike variant in BFZ, and trying to push more of a Big Red deck.
still not an excuse to make cheap, fast red spells because that's what Red does. the moment it doesn't do that, it has lost its identity.
besides, going Big Red, at least in this and previous standard season, has proven to be ineffective. unless combined with other colors, that is. i am enjoying my B/R aggro with Kolaghan the Storm's Fury as the top end.
unimpressed about Chandra. 6 CMC? whatever happened to Red being the color of speed?
She draws, she's a discard outlet, she aggros and she board wipes
Good thing there isn't a very strong GR deck that ramps.... Oh wait.
Nissa is far more underwhelming in my mind although she works fantastically well with Gideon.
Two 3/1's that disappear at end of turn for 6 mana is not aggro. Nor does it make for a good planeswalker - zero protection.
It doesn't really draw so much as it wheels (Wheel of Fortune) +1 card. While card advantage in red is excellent, at 6 mana it isn't that impressive. The board wipe here is seriously overstated. She board wipes small creatures. Anything midsize (4 toughness) trades with her and 5 toughness lives.
This Chandra is bad.

Good thing there's a deck that plays big creatures and ramps in just the right colours!
I swear to god, so many posters on here have no clue what they are talking about. Just like when Flip Jace came out and I was torn to shreds for saying that he was solid.
So does Geist being in duel decks confirm that it will be reprinted in SoI? Seems like this spoiler would take big headliners out of the next two sets
No. Duel Deck reprints don't confirm anything being reprinted in Standard-legal sets. Avenger of Zendikar is one of the face cards for the current deck, for example, and wasn't reprinted in BfZ.
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.

Did you suddenly forget you're on MTGS for a second?
Zero perspective is the M.O. around here.
If we didn't have most of the posters calling doom and gloom on every new card, it just wouldn't be spoiler season.

That card draw land is interesting. Wonder if it might be able to slot into modern Affinity decks since they have both the colorless mana and are fairly likely to go hellbent.
So if someone sacrifices a creature and you have a It That Betrays in play. What effect would activate first Kalitas or It That Betrays?
Kalitas. It That Betrays would never trigger, because Kalitas's effect is a replacement effect (uses the word "if") and means the creature is never put into a graveyard at all.

Chandra seems bad, a 6 mana planeswalker that can't protect itself from siege rhino or anafenza won't see play until rotation.
Nissa is a solid planeswalker she just doesn't have a deck at the moment and I don't imagine her having one after this set, maybe next block. Just another planeswalker that siege rhino threatens easily.
The Eldrazi is overrated. Saccing lands to replay a 7 drop is bad magic. In a midrange strategy it's hard to get the 8th or 9th land, Abzan Charm exiles this thing outright, and ramp strategies don't want to sacrifice their lands. I mean you might as well just play Ugin if you want to win a game of magic.
Sphinx seems like an excellent finisher for blue based control. The uncounterable effects are nearly pointless outside of the mirror but flying+hexproof is a game winning combination.
I like the R/W manland in the jeskai decks. Dodges Abzan Charm and Silk Wrap. Not a 4-of by any stretch but some of those jeskai matches go to time and dead boards and this can close a game quickly.
Kalitas has to compete with Siege Rhino and 3-4 color decks and he won't, doesn't feel remotely playable.

I have to agree with my top hat brother here. This Chandra will be amazing in Standard.
The Chandra is very interesting. I have no idea if it'll be good or not. Feels like she wants to wrath the turn she comes out, and the 4 loyalty might be a bit light for that play pattern.

Jund Superfriends with Nissa Flipwalker, Ob Nix and new Chandra is possible, then.
Wasteland, Strip Mine, and Ancient Tomb are uncommons.
But that, Dust Bowl, and Kor Haven are certainly the strangest Expedition choices.

Doubtful. Duel decks usually have a reprint for one spot, and a brand new Mythic in the other. The new demon is the new card.
Look at Heroes vs. Monsters or Speed vs. Cunning.
