Innistrad was a total flavor grand slam and I expect this to be the exact same. Innistrad was one of my favorite blocks simply from flavor so yes on this.
I think the bad taste in everyone's mouth from Battle and Ravnica will certainly taint the players' collective paradigm on the return sets. Just saying it now: this set will not have Snaps, Lili, or anything like it. It will do its own thing. Period. Get it through your thick heads now.
So my question is, what do the development codenames have to do for these sets overall? Like are they randomly picked out of a hat, or do they have some sort of significance to the set's theme or plotline as a whole?
The reason I ask is because if we look back to development, Shadows in the third set in the "Blood, Sweat, Tears, Fears" group (Blood = BFZ, Oath = Sweat). To me that signifies that the events going on Innistrad somehow relate back to Zendikar, given how the sets line up with the idiom.
The codenames for these blocks are a little odd because there was a shift from three-set blocks to two-set blocks while they were still being designed. Battle for Zendikar was originally going to be a three-part block with codenames Blood, Sweat, and Tears, but was shifted to being two sets during the design of Blood. So they needed to amend the codenames without changing the ones they already had. Thus the phrase "Blood, Sweat, and Tears" became "Blood and Sweat" and "Tears for Fears." There's no bigger connection at work, just a quirk of the shift in block structure.
Why would anyone have a bad taste in their mouth over rtr? It was fantastic. Regardless, looking forward to some new goodies for bw tokens. I don't see how werewolves could come back, I was pretty sure they all got turned into wolfir or were killed right? I might be wrong, not sure.

Ah okay, thank you.
Kind of a shame though; I was having images of a multi-planar war against Eldrazi and I was enjoying it immensely.

Storyline has to do with a planeswalker showing up in a small town in the province of Nephalia in pursuit of information regarding an unusual artifact he found. As he investigates, he notices that everyone looks unusual, almost as if they are some sort of fish-person hybrid. This investigation will slowly drive him more mad as he pursues the mysteries of the rumored underwater kingdom from which hail the Deep Ones, ancient amphibious beings that have been breeding with the humans of the small town throughout the generations...
What do you mean this is Shadows Over Innistrad and not Shadows Over Innsmouth? What about Father Kozilek and Mother Emrakul? Esoteric Order of Kozilek sounds right, though.
Do you guys think that werewolfs will be back seeing that Innistrad ended with them being lifted off their curse? At least I hope it will be Double Faced heavy again
I am looking forward to a fallen Avacyn...corrupted by black magics.
Maybe Tibbers has actually been up to some mischief and has done something to upset the balance that Avacyn brought with her and Sorin will come in to mop up the mess.

I am looking for Date Stamped promos from Khans of Tarkir block so I can finish my set. Check my wants if you have any.
Currently offering 2 non-foil Kolighan's Command for a Date Stamped foil!
Interesting choice to return so quickly. Now we can see how they screw up this return set. RTR the set was good, but Battle for Zendikar is a let down and I feel it wasn't given the attention it should have. I'm holding out hope that the second set will make it great. I love Innistrad and really hope they give it the attention it needs so they're not just using the name to draw people in.
I was wondering if the flashback mechanic was going to to make a return soon. It, like delve, can also feed your opponent's processors and has the potential to be a interesting double edged sword for both sides. However, this is entirely depends on if Oath of the Gatwatch has playable processors.

That's why the name sounds so familiar! Great name for a magic set. Thanks for pointing out! May this be a hint at Eldrazi action on Innistrad or maybe even other unimaginable horrors?
As I wasn't playing magic during original Innistrad I'm looking forward to see it living - again.

Great name! I am really hoping if they are going for a Lovecraftian block that they don't try to shoehorn the Eldrazi in. While I like their design they never felt overly lovecraftian to me, Innistrad however could really pull it off if it is done properly.
Now I am just hoping for non-merfolk fish-people!

In play: Jund Death Shadow, Grixis Control, Eldrazi Stompy, Ponza
In the yard: RUG Delver, Kiki-Chord, Grixis Twin, Mardu Control, Smallpox, Jeskai Control, Jeskai Delver, Assault Loam, Elves, Deathcloud, Eggs, Storm
The reason for back to back returns seems fairly obvious: They want the return blocks in Spring/Summer. Since BtZ was already decided at the switch, it results in one year of back to back to adjust.
Or this:
deetsposts asked: Two sequels in a row is bad form Mark.
Why? If half our sets are returns, the only way to not occasionally have two returns in a row is to always alternate which seems much worse form as surprise is important.
It would be neat if this set has a Nightmare Before Christmas feel to it.
It all takes place during the Festival of Avacyn's birth/church rising/Innistrad Christmas when it's snowing and peaceful. Then tragedy! And it ends happily.
BFZ was horrible, IMO, because half the set was a trashed Zendikar and the other half was Eldrazi world with no signs of the Adventure World everyone wanted to see again. Ulamog should have been the lone boss, gets defeated in the first set, and the second set shows Zendikar in the future as a wild exploration plane that remembers the fallen god, etc. Just my thoughts. I think Innistrad should fare better, and closer to RTR than BFZ, perhaps even superior to RTR in that it has more lore potential. RTR was literally "guilds!" It actually felt rather insulting to me as a Vorthos. That maze idea didn't rectify anything either.
Why would you even want Snapcaster in standard with commands right now? Snaping back K-Command is brutal enough already in Modern, no way should it exist in Standard.
If nothing else, the sets art will be amazing. Plus, aren't all the werewolves good guys now? I'm all for white Werewolves being a thing.

I am super excited for returning.
I am a afraid Wizards will damage my love of Innistrad because it won't live up to my fond memories.
I remind myself my memories are painted by Nostalgia.
I remind myself it can never be as bad as what Shamalayn did to The Last Airbender.
