Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

Can I cast a spell for its awaken cost off of effects like Narset, Enlightened Master that let me cast for free? *edit* never mind, nope I can't. Damnit.
Yanno...I give. I'll try it. Why not? Everything else costs a bazillion. At least with this, I get an extra turn to do...things. Maybe I attack with my extra turn. Maybe I activate Kiora. Maybe I cast another one of these and do still more things. The only thing I know that I'm not going to be doing is casting mana efficient spells in Zendicrawl standard. But, I guess if my opponents are likewise shackled with 6, 7, and 8 cmc weights...well then...what's the rush?
Anyone remember when sets were designed with interesting keyword mechanics which were then explored with abilities that worked with neat interactions and open ended engines? Instead of just taking a laundry list of old staple cards, stapling a keyword to them, and phoning in the set as you basically play mad-lib on magic cards?
Cards like this depress me. I don't even play this game, and it makes it harder for me to understand how some old school players can stick around. I only come here to comment on the design behind the cards, and snoozefests this bad year after year make me disinterested in critiquing MTG, let alone actually playing it. R&D should really hang their heads in shame
Okay, I've held back for a while but I just can't stay silent when they keep making cards like this. I get it; it's powerful regardless of the mana cost, but this is beyond design stagnancy. This is design putrescence. You all know they spent 5 seconds making this card. Just go through the list of powerful spells we've seen before, add awaken and 1 mana AND BAM! NEW CARD!!!!!!!! I find this card gross. Any format that can play time warp will just play that anyway, so this card doesn't even do anything... like at all... anywhere. Blizzard already sold boxes with just the expedition thing, so everything else is just a toss in, I guess. Drana is nice...
I think it reached a crescendo with mirrodin 2.0, where they just reprinted mirrordin block with infect stapled to it, and then followed it up with another middle set of the exact same thing. I mean, after a while you just grow numb to this don't you, its one thing when they stop trying anymore, its another thing when we lose our expectation that they will try anymore
...so unexciting. The exile clause is unnecessary, it's costed so as to be unplayable, and the stapled on set mechanic doesn't even have much synergy with the base effect.
I mean for God's sakes, if you want to put a Time Warp variant in as a mythic, how about a 4/5 cmc processor who processes 4 cards for it? That at least has an interesting comparison with Time Warp itself.

I primarily play limited, so most of my spoiler season comments view cards through that lens.
Hey, it would be totally abuseable in Standard if not for that exile clause. CMC of 6 isn't bad for an extra turn. And CMC of 9 for a game-ending effect is very good.
Card is getting a lot of hate but it's not as bad as people are saying. 6 mana take an extra turn with upside isn't bad, though usually not playable on it's own, but 3 extra mana for a 6/6 on top of it when you have an extra turn to swing could be. Combined with the Awaken Counterspell maybe we'll see an all spells control deck. I mean, control decks have been playing Ugin at 8, you can argue he's a game ender but how is a 6/6 and an entire extra turn not as game ending? I don't think it'll be a chase mythic but I could see this as a one of in control builds.
To those complaining about the exile clause you try being the one who is sitting there while someone is blinking an Archaeomancer/Eternal Witness to keep casting Time Warp. Not exactly fun. It's there to keep it from being abused mainly in casual multiplayer games.
I swear I first read it as Wingbonger...something tells me that "As Long as Wingbonger is paired with another creature, both creatures have weed." wouldn't be as good. Seems solid for limited.
I wouldn't call this a bad card, it's more just so mind bogglingly boring, like a lot of cards in this set, especially the mythics for some reason. I'm sure everyone was totally hyped up when they announced Return to Zendikar for Dragonmaster Outcast to be a mythic once again.
We get these kinds of effects every new set, it's like R+D have a checklist now of things they need to print. Time walk effect that's overcosted and exiles itself, check. Big dumb hydra in green because we can't make interesting fatties anymore, check. Underpowered red mythic that sometimes is just zany because it fits in no other color? check.
I think everything really went downhill after Return to Ravnica, where they started to force the "guild" theme for the next few sets onwards, with Theros and the Gods, and Khans with the.. Khans. You knew what to expect from every set, and it's just become so boring.
I wish my 4/4s with haste and first strike that acted as Goblin Warchiefs were better and didn't die to instants and overshadowed all other 4 drops in the format. And that they had evasion too, and some way to dodge wrath effects.

Return to Ravnica gets a special mention for having an entire mechanic lifted at the last minute by development and replaced by a boring and tame filler content that spanned a full fifth of the set. It was like archangel's light on crack.
But credit where its due. RTR block had cipher, which was very interesting mechanically albeit completely utterly neutered into oblivion by development, but even as recently as last year with FRF we got manifest, which almost made up for how disgustingly uninspired megamorph was. Wizards at least was still *trying* with the last two blocks. KTK showed some good world building and reprinted mechanics at first and built it into something neat on the second set, maybe zendikar still has a chance to redeem itself with oathgatecrash or whatever the next set is called. But I'm not holding my breath. They plainly weren't even trying with this one

There are so many EDH decks that want the highest possible number of turn taking spells, no matter what the cost is. This, like all the others, go right into Narset.

Solidarity / Lands / Sneak and Show / Grixis Delver / Reanimator / Belcher / Storm / Dredge
I think this looks like a decent control finisher. Someone mentioned an all spells build with awaken, throw in the UG Manland, and perhaps we're getting somewhere?
Also it might be fun to try in a sultai graveyard deck with Living Lore.
Haters are going to hate. This set had a lot going for it. First and foremost, for me, is limited looks like a blast. Can't wsit for sealed and draft, it's the best game WOTC makes.
Cmon WoTC! I was expecting something more creative, just because you made a new mechanic (its like Kicker ver. 27.3), it doesnt mean that its going to be cool to just make old cards with this overcosted ne mechanic.
While this isn't a Standard concern, I will say for EDH exile is pretty much always required. Having played Sheoldred into Eternal Witness into Time Warp for an infinite loop on several occasions (or bouncing Mnemonic Wall for the same effect) I can say it really doesn't matter how expensive the spell is... it's pretty much a win.
I don't care that you, someone with experience and skill for a format I don't play, make a sensible argument in favour of a clause I, a netdecker, find offensive
I ain't netdecking any of your decks so why don't you go back to wherever you came from?

May as well sit back and enjoy my extra turns.
Turn 6 Waterveil. If resolves, swing and dig.

Interested in Custom Card Creation.

I dunno, probably because I love efficiency (i.e. only paying for a spell once to get the effect twice)

Protecting casual multiplayer from time walking? Because we don't already have any way to do that right now, do we?
We're well beyond protecting casual multiplayer from shenanigans.

And having factions isn't bad, but the fact that it was the central focus for three years including RtR, it got really tiring.

Doesn't stop it from being bad design to not exile and we don't need even more troublesome extra turn design than we already have.
