It would probably be fine at uncommon, but it seems like a limited trap at uncommon (people try their darnedest to run counterspells when they usually aren't the greatest)
The card has an R at the bottom, so guessing it should be Rare, not Mythic.
Still, though, I think my earlier question holds: for those who think that this doesn't deserve to be Rare, do you think Draining Whelk should have been Rare?
Or because it's such an obvious upgrade on long time staple that it makes sense. Huge momentum swings come from cards like this. Rare makes sense (and it'd be bonkers at U).
Wow, how is everyone so bad at evaluating BFZ cards. This card is yet another (maybe) playable card in standard. It counters everything and adds late game utility. This is exactly the kind of answer that control decks want to be running.
Yet another great design.

Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

jwf: It counters a spell and creates a creature. That's a classic 2-for-1. (Cf. Mystic Snake) Your scenario, where you could block with your Awakened land and kill one of their attackers, would actually be a 3-for-1.

Draining Whelk is usually going to be a lot bigger than a 3/3. If it was just a solid 3/3 for 6, I'd say no

Draining Whelk had flying, and could come in as something far bigger than 3/3.
Token: And this can counter something on turn 3. And be Snapcastered.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess, but this has two modes, one of which is Common and the other which has always been a Rare, so I can easily see why it's Rare.

isn't uncommon enough?
what the hell?
card is alright, but yet another uninspired rare.
I'm loving the uncommons of this set and some commons as well, but the rares... damn.
...either way, art is gorgeous. Won't be unhappy to pull it, whether the card is any good or not.
This card is not as powerful, no, but it's in the same vein as Whelk, and hey, it can cost 3 and not 6.
Lookin' good, rare Cancel!
Oh, good lord.
Now I'm going to have to overpay to get my favorite art of this set in foil

I love how this spoiler makes me feel better for not buying a box. Spoiler season: the more you see, the more you save!
I don't mind the spell. It's a ways down from the others in the category "strictly better Cancels", though.

Not really though. Unless they try to play a spell after attacking but before blocks are declared you can't two for one them with this.
