I'm fine with reprints, good common and uncommon reprints are often better than any block themed versions could have been. Even rare reprints (like the formerly mythic Felidar Sovereign) are okay and some of them (like the rare fetches in Khans, Thoughtseize in Theros etc.) can be majorly worthwhile.
But if they are going to use up a Mythic slot on a reprint it should at the very least be a highly desired modern power card. This however is just a cutesy little mythic that barely saw any play the 1st time around, doesn't see any play in modern and barely see's any play in EDH. This is not an okay use of a Mythic slot and I will be crying inside everytime I open one.
This is the mythic everyone was clamoring for in Modern Masters 2015 intead of Comet Storm, right? Nice job Wizards, apparently it is indeed impossible to please players!
I thought we were downshifting these sort of reprint kinda-exciting Mythic cards now (Felidar Sovereign, Gaea's Revenge, etc)? It's a cool card and I don't have a copy for Commander yet, so that's something, but I don't remember this doing a thing in Standard the first time around and to see it Mythic again is a bit meh.
Why would you want mythics to do a thing in standard? Do you like $30 mythics? I rather see rares doing a lot of stuff in standard and mythics being big & bomby or plain weird for casual play.
I am on the same page as you. I prefer mythics to be strange and completely unique - something you feel you shouldn't come across all the time, not just something that is blatantly under costed or too powerful. Rares should be where the majority of the standard staples come from (though I would like to see more uncommons in there too).
As for seeing Dragonmaster Outcast as a reprint here, I like it. I don't like it as a mythic, but I like it being available in the format. I would have loved to see this as a rare, where a measly 1/1 becomes a big threat while your opponent gets ready to throw out some giant Eldrazi. I see why wizards could believe that it may be too much as a regular rare, but I don't agree with the reasons really. I have always liked the card, but I don't believe it needs such a demanding card slot in a set... I mean, a mythic?
Seems good to me. I thought it was pretty obvious that reprints in non core sets would be more common after the death of cores.
I can see this doing some real work in standard though. At worst, it's a 1 drop removal soaker, at best it will just win the game. Control will love it.

It's true - they did warn us there would be more reprints after the death of the core sets. Maybe this is to set an example of just how far they are willing to go with their reprints: taking up mythic slots with cards that aren't in overly high demand (though, as stated, it was jumping in cost and could use some kind of reprint, even though a duel deck or something would have been better imho). So maybe this is just to mostly set an example.
And if that's the case, then things might just be okay. I was more worried about the reprinting of Planeswalkers left and right, because we had so many in the core sets (for the most part, Origins obviously being an exception).
Wow, didn't see this coming. I'd be fine with this taking up a mythic slot if the rest of the mythics were junk and the good cards in the set were at rare. So far, that is far from the case.
It does feel really weird to have a mythic reprint in the mythic slot of a new set outside of a core set.
I'm saddened by this news. I never liked buying core sets when they were mostly reprints (though the last several core sets could stand on their own pretty well despite having a high percentage of reprints). I was pleased to hear of their doing away with core sets entirely because I mostly enjoy the excitement of a new plane - or in this case returning to a plane which was one of my absolute favorites, and all the cool new toys we get to play with.- I'm sure this is because I've been playing for a while and my opinion would change were I new to magic. I, for one, had saved up a good amount of cash in anticipation of buying several boxes, but after seeing so many of the new rares at such a pitifully low power level, and cards I enjoyed and collected for their cool-factor (and yes investment value) being re-printed, I think I must reconsider. I've grown so tired of buying boxes and experiencing that awful sinking feeling when I open .25 cent rare after .25 cent rare after now $2 reprinted mythic. I think the strategy now is to just let everyone else spend their money and buy singles of the few cards with any value when they are reprinted and thus lose all value...which is sad because opening a box or two each set was one of the few things I get to look forward to in my sad world. Does anyone else feel the same as me?

.
I think most people wanted a card that actually felt mythic, like Scourge of Kher Ridges or Red Akroma. Dragonmaster Outcast was on that list solely because it was a $15 card with a single printing, not because it's a card people actually want. I guess Wizard didn't realize that.
While some may complain about this card, I see it as potentially quite good in standard right now. End of opponent's turn CoCo hitting this can net you a 5/5 to boot on your upkeep. Yeah, I'm cool with that. On top of that, you can always reanimate him with Ojutai's Command. There are a few good ways to use him. Yes, his land requirements are not good, but I have a feeling we are yet to see several cards that put lands into play fast. We already have a few, Animist's AwakeningAtarka's CommandExplosive Vegetation and Sword of the Animist. Not all of them are worthy of playing, but they all get the job done to help get this guy active earlier than would normally be expected.
All in all, I could see an environment where he sees play. He is no all-star, but he could see play in standard. In limited, he is likely pack 1 pick 1 for those late game free 5/5 dragons. Having him as rare in limited might be too pushed.

Please link me to where you're finding these for $2, I'd like to buy them out.
I actually love the little Dragonmaster that could, and I will build some fun decks with him. Mythic is fine as well, because like many have said, playable mythical equal wallet destroyers.
I'm more than okay with reprints in the face of core sets going away.
However Maro has talked about giving people what they expect. If we're revisiting Zendikar I guess I expected some Modern staple reprints from the original block. Inquisition being a good example, but of course there are many others.
People should stop complaining. This is mythic because of limited. This card is insane there. Back in the days of Worldwake drafts this was considered the best red card (after Comet Storm)

This is not how bans/unbans work. Its always the enabler that gets the ban, not the card that is being abused. If you would have Yawgmoths will + whatever cards - it would be Yawgs that would be banned. If you would have Stoneforge and batterskull - it would be stone who would be banned and that is exactly how it works. Furthermore, banning a card in order to unban a different card is a thought process that was and wont be never applied in practical means.

Everyone is complaining and there is only 83 spoiled. There not gonna dump the surprise yet.

I think when MaRo said "players expectations from a world", he meant it in flavor, because let's face it, regardless of the set, "Modern Staples" is always an expectation. We even hear the same old "Modern Staple please" for FTV, where the reprints barely affect the price.
The art is pretty good in my opinion. Good there are still cards that don't like like WoW-screenshots (like the atrocious art for Kolaghan's Command with that ghastly pink MS-paint garbage) or images of Disney-movie characters (like Jeskai Ascendancy).
I guess the main gripe against your ideology is that we want strong mythics that are new, not decent/okay old mythics we have already seen.
Sure not having $30 mythics sounds great but there is a lot more flexibility in the card making for mythics so when they reprint a card it feels we got gimped on a new sweet card, even if the likelyhood of it being terrible is just as high.
