I like that if you have Starfield of Nyx activated but aren't going to win the game on time, you can have this shoot itself, then bring itself back next turn. Pretty clever. It feels like they've gone all-out on the mythics for this set.
Flavor through the roof. The Vorthos in me is in tears. I love the concept of scrambling to break your demonic contract before it bites you in the butt, or going into the deal knowing you have a way to break it when you've gotten what you need out of it. Very black, and very fun.
Obviously, you're not going to run this card without a way to remove it. Think outside the vacuum, people. Disperse, Naturalize, Sultai Charm, and numerous other removal that you'll probably run anyway can get rid of it.
this is very black.
quite powerful, really dangerous.
If it sticks for 3 turns, it will give you a whooping +5 card advantage (if you hit a dude with the first option) with +4 life to boot....
Then you'll need to get rid of it or it will kill you.
So amazing.
doesn't even matter this card won't shake competitive formats, I want 20 of it.
I think you still lose on the next upkeep, since you're technically stopping the "Choose one" ability instead of the "Lose the game" ability. Therefore you still haven't chosen "Lose the game"
The flavor irony here is that an "Angel" effect can save you from the game loss effect but Lili is "2cool4angles"
I do love the flavor though. Good news is, I'm pretty sure you choose the effect upon resolution so no blowouts by killing Platinum Angel in response (unless it is your last option lol).
This is VERY mythic, exactly what a mythic should be. Interesting, story-relevant, and potentially powerful, but not a pushed, "put me in every deck in the colors or you are stupid". Mythics should something that really makes you think about the card, not think about how it is a staple that is going to cost $30.
As for its playability, what really hurts it is not doing anything until your next turn. If it did something immediately, it would potentially be okay in aggro (where if you haven't won by t8, you lost anyways), where 4 mana to kill a blocker, draw fuel, and make it a little harder for the opponent to have enough answers would be helpful in winning before this kills you. Not doing anything until the next turn is unplayable for an aggro curve-topper. It also makes it unplayable in modern (because even without the downside the nothing-until-next turn puts it in control only, where the downside is real).
For standard, however, even if you waste a card to destroy it, it is a 5-for-2, which might be good enough to warrant the risk. There is enchantment removal in standard, and several are maindeckable. The real problem is that this needs a sac outlet. Getting your Dromoka's Command countered on the opponent's end step after you have used this 3 times is bad. Starfield of Nyx might be fun with this, turning it into a creature makes it MUCH easier to get rid of, and if you are returning this to use again, you are burying the opponent in CA (plus this blanks opposing Commands for that deck).
I really don't know if this will see play (outside of casual, where it CERTAINLY will). It has a high payoff, and the downside isn't terribly hard to avoid, but it is the worst possible drawback. For EDH, are there any popular commanders who sacrifice permanents? (Other than Shattergang, where this should be a staple)
What a beautiful card! I know this card probably isn't amazing, but god do I love it! . Thank you wizards for still being able to surprise me after 20 years!
Oh geez, who would've thought, another crappy black mythic? I really like how honest this card is: It flat out tells you that you'll lose the game for playing it. Maybe you don't feel stupid right away, but eventually you will.
What a waste of beautiful art. As the first illustrator of Lili, Aleksi Briclot deserves better.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
I don't care if this card never sees one minute of competitive play, I love that it exists. THIS is what I'm griping about when I say I wish Magic was more "magic" and less smashing dudes into each other. This card is interesting and creative, even if it ends up being bad.
I think you still lose on the next upkeep, since you're technically stopping the "Choose one" ability instead of the "Lose the game" ability. Therefore you still haven't chosen "Lose the game"
I could be wrong on this though.
I was about to say that, in response to this and the Stifle suggestion. But after thinking about it for a bit, the mode on modal triggered abilities seems to be chosen when putting the ability on the stack. Consider the cycle containing Ainok Guide, for instance. You make the choice when putting the trigger on the stack, rather than on resolution. I think this works with Stifle and Time Stop effects.
This card loves Descent Into Madness. Stack that third trigger and exile this puppy. Maybe a Modern Stax deck?

In case I didn't tell you, I don't care about your opinion I just want your facts. And not the facts that make you seem smart. I want the ones that are actual facts.

Even if it turns out to be bad, a card that's bad in an interesting way deserves print slots over all the thousands of cards that are bad because they don't do anything or are costed to never see play.

You can choose you lose the game and nothing will happen. You can't lose the game for any reason outside of external reasons like judge rulings.

at the very least it's not stupidly unplayable as Hedonist's Trove, Ghastly Conscription or Worst Fears

Like flavor wise, abilities, Johnny applications....combos, nuts.
This is the first card besides Starfield and new Lili I'm actually excited for. This is begging to be broken. I love it.
EDIT: Riptide Chimera, Eidolon of Blossoms, Courser, Doomwake, control cards--Sultai Constellation.

*facepalm*. Both require you to return them to your hand or get rid of them in some way to actually have a chance of winning the game.......

And being a mythic is just perfect. Why would any standar player complain about that? you'd rather have mythic staples to obliterate your wallet?
