Never understand the dislike for Guay. I always put her next to Nielson in artistic style, who seems to have more universal appeal.
As a big fan of her's myself, I'll have to admit that I do understand why her art is so polarizing. I feel that the more unique or peculiar a particular style is, the more likely it'd have a love it or hate it type of appeal depending on each person's tastes. Even back in the earlier days of magic, I felt that there were just as many people who felt that her art felt out of place in the game.
That said, I've always felt the same as you regarding the comparison to Nielsen, who is my second favorite artist after all.

I just wish she'd done a set of basic lands. My Rebecca Guay theme deck could use more than just RW. I'm a bit partial to black, you see.
Haha, I can't agree with this enough. And being that the one plains and mountain is a promo, I myself didn't feel that it was worth going the extra mile to get enough of them to make a deck out of them. Also, the great wall theme for the plains does admittedly feel a bit out of place from the rest of the deck. I remember back in the day also always wishing that she'd be able to be the one draw any type of Wrath of God variant, but I've always known that's asking for a bit much.
I'm aware. But between the bad art and the numbering most likely making a tariel foil impossible, I'm pretty upset. Let her fans salt all over the thread for all I care.
Meh, at least you had a chance. I'm never gonna get a foil DamiaorAnimar.
You dont even know - check my edh decks, I've got 6 that currently have no foil generals. Y_Y
Y'know, I just counted, and I also have 6 commanders that aren't available in foil. Although, I counted Animar twice because I'm using him for two decks, since WotC has yet to print a better morph general. It balances out, though, because Shauku, Endbringer is on the reserved list, so there's zero chance I'm getting her with updated wording/in the modern frame, much less in foil.
Actually, who are the generals for your mono-green deck and your bant deck? Your sig doesn't make it clear, and I'm only counting 5 foil-less generals on your end.
Also, as an addendum to my previous comment, Serra Angel was never not going to be in this in some form or another, (just like, for example, how there's no way Shivan Dragon wasn't going to be in FTV: Dragons) so, really, it's not Serra Angel you should be peeved at for (potentially) bumping Tariel off the list, it's all the cards between Avacyn and Serra Angel you should be peeved at.
Guay's art style never adapted with magic - she's from the era of $50 comissions for card art, before art direction was a thing, and before style guides were a thing. Worse, every pieceshe doesis thesame. Her fans are largely old-time players that also hate the new frame and all the other good things that have happened to magic visually in the past 20 years, and they are a vocal group on the boards XD. Thankfully, Since Jarvis took over as art director, he's brought on more talented artists (and yes, more digital artists) that fit the look of magic more.
As someone that collects a lot of cards for their art, I wish that instead of a boring/sloppy art like this one, we could have given one of the newer, incredible talents a chance to take on a classic. Hell, the art that guay did doesn't even suit the awesome flavor text - Where are the wings of light? the sword of faith? the fury? Guay's piece looks like she took her standard reference model and added wings to it. Pure garbage, and such a wasted slot.
I would have much rather seen it done by Aleksi Briclot, Igor Kieryluk, Daarken, or even Deruchenko Alexander (who has only done Abbot of Keral Keep so far) do the piece and give it some real personality.
No offense but I can't take you seriously.
I started with RTR and I find her art great in the same way I find Terese Nielsens art great. Speak for yourself.
You made the right decision. Guay is very much admired for her art and IMO fits MTG very well. It would be a deep shame not to see more of her work in this game.
I am very pleased to finally own her Serra Angel art in the new border for my Angel EDH deck. It's been among my greatest wants for a long while. Hopefully this is seen as a filler card and sold cheap so I can get my copy

Which of her cards is in your avatar BTW? Need it for my Rebecca Guay art themed deck.
Random note, I forget the FTV foiling actually looks good on white and gold bordered cards. So that's a plus.
Meanwhile my Ink-Eyes and Visara look like garbage.
Well, it could've been worse...
.... they could've got Drew Tucker back to draw a fuzzy abstract alt-art... ... or Harold McNeil... *shudder*
OR PHIL FOGLIO. Their art are classics, I ain't gonna argue with that but can you imagine their art representing Serra Angel for this FTV? Hoo-Lawd, that is one of the things that can make me hate the inclusion of two Akromas and their mediocre-quality art included for this FTV.
I think Bl00m was fulfilling Godwin's Law here, nothing moar. (Though yeah, it would be a PR disaster. And I never liked his Tempest circles of protection. Having six basically-identical arts on five cards that do the same thing except for color and one special for shadow is Bad.)
Yah, got it in one. I can never look at Invoke Prejudice the same way nowadays. For anyone complaining about Rebbeca Guay getting an art slot, I am close to dead sure that giving it to Harold McNeil instead would be all kinds of worse on many different levels (including both art quality and company PR).
I'm aware. But between the bad art and the numbering most likely making a tariel foil impossible, I'm pretty upset. Let her fans salt all over the thread for all I care.

I've been disappointed about the inevitable inclusion of Serra Angel, but it's great at least to get the Rebecca Guay art for it. I'm actually sort of looking forward to it.

Oh haha, that's unfortunately not a Magic card actually. It's actually an illustration of Galadriel from the old Middle-earth card game (so yeah, it's my favorite LoTR character drawn by my favorite Mtg artist ). In case you're still interested despite it not being useful in your theme deck, the card is titled "Lady of the Golden Wood" and it shouldn't be more than a few bucks on ebay whenever it appears. And also note that there have been many other LoTR card games since then due to the movies, so there are actually other Lady of the Golden Wood cards from the wrong game if you do end up searching.
Ah interesting, so Tariel is now confirmed too. It was a bit unexpected IMO due to me always feeling like she was a wonky Adarkar Valkyrie. I've also never been a fan of the Wayne Reynolds artwork either, but that's just my opinion.

*****, now I want this and it's already sold out at my local stores.

Tariel confirmed? Looks like I was wrong about commander-esque stuff being in a FTV. Oh well, I'm happy with it getting printed in a foil version regardless. Going to set my alarm early on release day and hope I beat people to it. If not, I'll just wait till it drops on eBay.
Wow so that art isn't twilight shepherd. interesting!
Yeah, I just quickly looked through all the possibilities that first revealed art could be again, and using my best judgment to rule out anything that's either underwhelming, non-iconic, and doesn't fit the flavor of the art, I think my best new prediction may be Karmic Guide.
I'm thinking it's baneslayer because in the art for the original, she's flying through a starry sky (although most of it is obscured by clouds), and while less revealing, the armor is fairly similar. She has a second sword instead of a shield in the new art, and while the blade is thicker in the original, the pommels are similar as well. The veil is the only bit that really throws it off, and combined with the glowing swords, I believe it could also be Blinding Angel, as the glow is coming from near the guard as per the original art for Blinding.
Has a BFZ preview card been ruled out? Don't Zendikar angels have their eyes covered. (Though I know they lost their blinding halos after the first or second set...)
Now, we just need Linvala... Of course, because thats the only one I really want, that means she won't get printed.
I would be shocked if they printed her because she would, surely, have been one of the "faces" of the set, and we have seen all three of those: White Akroma, Avacyn, and Iona.
Hmm. That art seemed so much like Twilight Shepherd. I'm not complaining. Tariel was one of the ones I wanted!
I doubt it's Karmic Guide, as that one has two different arts already. Angel of Finality? (I liked the original for her, too, but whatever.) The new art for Fallen Angel? Ok, so it doesn't seem remotely like that, but I *want* new art for Fallen Angel!

Yeah, when I saw that they were printing Iona and Avacyn and there were no further spoilers, I got the creeping feeling that Linvala didn't make the cut. Makes no sense to me, given Iona was just reprinted in MM2, and Linvala foils fetch double that right now.
Oh well, at least my wife gets to enjoy all her new foily additions to her Dan Brown EDH deck.
Hey all! I'm back in the game after being out for quite some time and love the Angels cards. I'm thinking about picking this up but have a question in regards to the price... the Wizards site has MsRP listed at $34.99 but all the preorders are for around $99.99?? I don't quite understand how Wizards allows their product to be over listed to the market through valid comic shops/ etc?? What am I missing? Is there a specific site/ store I need to preorder it from to get it at MSRP? Thanks all for your reply!

The FTV products are more of, it seems, a thank-you from WOTC to the gaming shops. I have never seen one anywhere at MSRP. They are a limited run thing, so the shops can make a bit extra on these when they barely break even on the boxes of boosters.
(No, I don't have a shop of my own, but one of my friends recently opened one. It's been a bit of a chance to peek at the inner workings of game shops.)
