The first of the expanded FNM program's promo cards is Frenzied Goblin
I'm super underwhelmed by this card. Especially on the heels of cards like Banishing Light and Stoke the Flames. Even Wizards' article seemed to question why this is the promo card.
It's a card that is seeing play in Rabble Red decks so it's not a terrible choice, but there were probably better options. Like... Monastery Swiftspear? Treasure Cruise?

While I agree on Treasure Cruise (just to have affordable foil versions out there for those who would like to have them) As much as I love Swiftspear, her art is pretty perfect the way it is...only way (which won't happen in the context of an FNM promo) is a full art version.
Isn't a bad promo ,ofcourse compared to Stoke of Flames isn't that good because SoF's art is phenomanal and a extremelly playable card. Not all promos are going to be the most playable card
Odd choice, but I can't complain. The art's good, and I like the card. I wish it depicted a more traditional goblin, but oh well, this is a nice change of pace.

They should switch to Khans cards already for Standard promos, the M15 ones are already about to rotate by then... just several months.
Alternatively, they should do more Modern/Legacy playables.
M15 isn't rotating out until Fall 2015, so it's more like a year from now.
But yeah, Frenzied Goblin doesn't seem promo-worthy to me. Though if it's getting attention in Standard...
Are there many Modern/Legacy playables in M15/Theros block? I'd guess that Khans promos will come out once there are more tourney results (so they know what's likely to stay relevant) and then we'll see more Modern/Legacy playables. I'd bet on Treasure Cruise coming up soon.
Don't bet on Treasure Cruise because it's very obvious they didn't test it outside of Standard and Limited, and probably assumed it was unplayable in modern and legacy because of its 7U mana cost. A lot of people including many top pros think it's got a good chance of being banned in modern, so releasing a promo of it wouldn't be something I'd imagine WotC would want to do. Similar to how awkward it was to release an event deck with SFM in it while banning it from Standard.
I honestly don't see how they wouldn't know that Treasure Cruise would end up being good in older formats. From the first day it was spoiled, a bunch of pros were already curious as to what effect it would have on modern/legacy. It's not even like it's subtly overpowered. Like Jeskai Ascendancy, it's clear just how powerful Cruise is if you just take a moment to consider how it could be abused. I think they just wanted to force a paradigm shift in modern with these cards (which so far, seems to have worked).
Anyways, I would love to see promos for Murderous Cut and Disdainful Stroke, if only because the artwork on these two sucks.

You'd think so too, but then you see gems like this in the Treasure Cruise spoiler thread:
people are really bad at judging delve cards... this card is unplayable outside of standard maybe. its so bad in multiples. comparing it to visions or recall is laughable. especially with snapcaster existing in other formats
If it were an instant it would factor in significantly. As it is (if real) it might see marginal play. I'm going to want a bunch for myself, though.
I can't believe the level of hype people have for this card. I can see this being played in EDH and maybe a blue Control deck in standard, if such a thing exists. That's it.
I don't think it will see play even in a blue control deck... Jace's intrique is better imo
Agreed. With all the hype about this card you'd think we were talking about gush!
To make it playable at a good (or at least fair) cost you have to empty your graveyard. By doing this, you make your other Delve spells less likely to be cast, and you lose other potential graveyard interaction. Last and least, all of this at Sorcery speed. You don't need a Crystal ball to see why it's "only" a common... Good in Limited in some situations, but even Standard has Divination and Jace's Ingenuity, why should people play this thing?
And that's just from the first 2.5 pages. The first guy got it right: Delve is incredibly hard to judge properly. It's not unthinkable that WOTC didn't think this one would be such a big deal. Around Innistrad's stint in standard, they stated they feared Burning Vengeance...
