It's nice to have some info, but it's so strange that they don't want to reveal the fifth planeswalker yet... Judging by the other five, I would have assumed it's Ajani (the five monocloured planeswalkers in M15,) but why hide that? Hmmm...
It bugs me somewhat that the green planeswalker that's featured isn't Garruk, but Nissa. Seems to break the original planeswalker cycle a bit. But then that would require the white planeswalker to be Ajani, which wouldn't be very exciting.
Speaking of the mystery white planeswalker, maybe this will be a newly-revealed planeswalker who will be important to the storyline in one of the next few sets.

Aka Nahiri? Exactly what I was thinking when I saw that the white planeswalker is unrevealed for some reason.
That was my first thought too, but that would mean there would be four female characters and only one male. Maybe it's just me but that seems kinda unlike them. Regardless, I might have to pick this up for my group. We had a lot of fun playing Risk Legacy.

"I think you have enough Magic cards." - My Ex Girlfriend
Gideon if a previously known white PW, as Ajani I think would be mentioned and Elspeth would make 4 of the 5 female. WotC can get SJW at times lately but I don't think they'd do 4 babes.

Wow...that was exactly what I wanted out of the game, but was not prepared to hope for. I love(d) Heroscape.
I suspect that the white PW will be Elspeth with the 2015 block to bring her out of the land of the dead, but spoiling her now would confirm that. I think Nissa is here for the same reason- we will see more of her in 2015. I really don't think wizards gives a furry fart what the gender makeup of the playable walkers are.
If it's a known walker it'll be spoilt already. I reckon it's probably Nahiri/someone new.
Not if it's Elspeth. There is a lot of debate as to whether Elspeth is dead in the same immutable sense that Venser is or if she is dead in the greek "land of the dead" sense which is often changeable. Spoiling Elspeth for the game could appear to indicate that she is not dead dead. It is all just a theory, but I'll stick with it.
I don't really know why the game has to follow any story. They could have done something more "generic" (like the first Duels of the Planeswalkers) and just feature the most iconic characters (that is, the Lorwyn 5).

But than Garruk should be in instead of Nissa, os they obviously won't go for the original 5 planeswalkers
Totally called Wizkids not having anything to do with this. That piece of speculation, and the reasoning behind it was totally bizarre.
Looks like the game incorporates traditional MtG cards, so it'll be interesting to see how they work that in. The minis look decent enough. Just hope they're not pre-painted, or if they are, not horribly pre-painted/easily stripped for repainting.
The most recent Uncharted Realms that involved Garruk made it pretty clear that Garruk is remaining black/green (even though the curse isn't spreading any further), and that he seems perfectly happy with that fact. Going forward, I think that Nissa is the new green core walker, and Garruk is black/green.
As Garruk and Ajani are the only two of the Llorwyn 5 who cannot be properly described as truly mono colour anymore, I suspect that is why they have not been included.
It does seem really odd that the white walker isn't reveled. I have a hard time believing they would use a planeswalker that is as yet unknown. Though it's not unlike WotC to completely do something unexpected and make it a brand new walker, it would have to have some strong ties with others to be the representation of white for the board game.
But it seems like all these walkers should be known and recognizable to even casual players. I don't think they're quite ready to bring Elspeth back, maybe something happens to Gideon or Ajani...something changes them in some way, maybe they get deformed from some battle or something, and they don't want that aspect to be reveled.
Nahiri or Elspeth seem likely as reasons for not revealing the white 'walker. They're not going to shy away from doing 4 of 5 females if that's what makes the most sense given the current state of their characters.
Super excited for something like Heroscape! I got into board gaming way too late, figured I would just never have a chance to play it, now it's in Magic form
Edit: Suddenly the giant bucket of Heroscape stuff in my closet is relevant again. At the very least to be able to build some giant terrain.
Seconded. I can't wait to adapt my old Heroscape tiles to this.
I just don't want to get too out of control. The one big problem with Heroscape was that it was almost an hour to set up most of the time if you were looking at really creative playing fields. I kind of like the way they're setting this new one up, where you aren't picking Armies but planeswalkers who come with their own armies. It'll definitely cut down significantly on the army building aspect.
Fall 2015 release date.

Also confirmed in this press release, no traditional Magic cards are included. Suppose that's good news for those not interested in the game having to pony up cash for alt art cards (or bad news if you were hoping for them!). http://s3.gatheringmagic.com.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/2014/10/16/mtgsg-press-fact-sheet.pdf

Glad I asked the LGS to hold me a copy. Just have to wait until next year.
Wish Nissa was NOT in it. I can't stand her character, storyline wise.

Might have been worse. Also, good to have confirmed it is only placeholder name and Wizkids are not doing this.
Let this great clan rest in peace (2001-2011)

Of course, I'm talking about what would have made more sense in my opinion so Garruk should be in, but they obviously didn't choose that route.
Both of them have had at least two multicoloured variations (Ajani Vengeant, Ajani, Mentor of Heroes, Garruk Relentless and Garruk, Apex Predator)
Excuse me while I go squeal in a corner.
