I'm curious; for those of you who expected it to be less: what price were you expecting? What price would you prefer?
(I was expecting it to be $100, but hoping it'd be $80).
Optimistically speaking I was expecting $60
Realistically speaking I was expecting $80. Why? Cause 4x20=80
The $20 extra makes no sense, especially since this whole thing at least following the SDCC presentation was that this was aimed not at collectors but at people who never got a chance to get these duel decks because they came into magic to late. Also the originally duel decks had an extremely limited print run compared to the newer ones.
This price might be a deterrent to stores to not price gorge.
I expect for the $100 price for there to be at least 4 spin down counters each with the different duel deck symbols on them, an extremely nice fat box style holder, the original deck boxes and possibly even larger copies of each planeswaker to use as plane chase commanders.
Else I will just buy the singles after this comes out since I don't even need GvL.
Maybe as a consumer I am being greedy but charging $100 for what is at its core a 4-8 player experience with a minor selection of a few decent cards cause I don't think anyone will buy this deck for 3x Goblin Cohort or the 2x Dusk Imp

Half these decks are being sold for more than $30 now , $25 for each is not much and i think people are just complaining cause it is a box of all 4 and soo the price is $100, if they selled those decks (2 and their box) for $25 each , i think people wouldn t complain...
I was expecting $80 so the extra $20 better be because of something extra being inside of it. If I can I would probably grab two, but at the very least I will be getting one of these.

They wouldn't cause then players could pick and chose which ones they prefer to get.
The reason these decks are being sold is cause they had extremely tiny print runs, Wizards never intended for them to be as popular as they are. DvD gets sold at extreme prices because of 2 cards only. The whole reason for this product was to make these decks available to player who never got a chance to get them in the first place yet with a price point of $100 wizards is treating this more as a From the Vault Duel Deck Series.
A general rule for sales is the more of it you sell the cheaper it gets.
For example Buy 1 burger for $2.5 or buy 4 for $8.00

The prices are as they are only because they have been out of print for so long. Heck, even Jace vs Vraska is going to be more expensive as time passes by virtue of it being no longer in print.

conclussion: if you are looking for easy value you will not find , the decks are priced roughly on the price of the cards in them...
if you say : but people will buy the cheap version... : No people want the foil or with nice art version of the cards, if you want more value you can trade easy the new versions with m15 border for the older( more cheap) versions with more...
Prices at my local store for the original print runs of the duel decks:
J vs C: $200
G v L: $70
E v G: $200
D v D: $150
So it doesn't seem so bad by that perspective. Or maybe my shop is a bunch of ripoff artists. One or the other.
Surely these newer releases will come with some labeling to state they are from the anthology boxset otherwise won't they be passed off as the originals?
I have a sealed copy of D v D and G v L.
Here in the UK I think we might be getting a good deal for once, it's £65 for the set of 4 and you can purchase them separately at £25 each.

Even if the packaging is identical, the foil cards will be visible and it will be clear that they have post-M15 frames. I think there probably will be new packaging (if only because these are all sold in a combined set and would therefore want more compact packaging) but even if there isn't it'll be pretty obvious which is which.
I guess many stores will just open the box and sell each deck at 26 or so. That price tag for an old duel deck is VERY reasonable and a way for somebody without a hundred bucks lying around to get their favorite.
I just want Garruk v Liliana, and mainly for the liliana, too.
Then you'll likely get your Liliana, since they'll have tons of those on the shelves, and zero of the J v C and D v D since both of those have around $70 worth of value in them. Hence the issue. G v L is the Naya EDH 2013 deck of this group.

"I hope to have such a death... lying in triumph atop the broken bodies of those who slew me..."
You don't call "dying to removal" if the removal is more expensive in resources than the creature. If you have to spend BG (Abrupt Decay), or W + basic land (PtE) to remove a 1G, that is not "dying to removal". Strictly speaking Goyf dies to removal, but actually your removal is dying to Goyf.
$100 for 4 of the oldest and best duel decks seems reasonable. These are basically some of the best DDs and they were in high demand.
considering the higher price since these were pretty popular and are great powered they probably added $5 each more to the decks to make it so price hike from speculation wasn't going to happen. I mean this is exactly what happened with the commander deck with true name nemesis in it was used as, they had to make a 2nd print run just to bring down the price. They bought the deck and then sold that single card for a profit.
besides $20 at the time of their first printing is not in fact $20 at this time. The value of currency has either gone up or down as it is tied to the value of the economy.
If you want to have fun with these old classic DDs, wizards is saying they are worth more than the ones they are selling at the moment($5 more). If you want it for your collection it is still worth it, if you want it for the $ cards, it is not worth it most likely. Exactly what wizards wants. I am getting it because i love DDs, and it gives me easy access to some expensive cards which i may or may not use in casual decks.
Everyone needs to quit *****ing. The price is reasonable, and they should be sold bundled like this. If they were sold individually, no one would get any decks because stores wouldn't keep ordering them just to sell a couple decks and have a ******* pile of Garruk vs. Liliana decks laying around. There is a lot of value in these four decks. A LOT. Get over it.

Hey all... I'm retired, not dead. Check out what I'm doing these days (and beg me to come back if you want):
The Khans of Tarkir 2014 Holiday Gift box has been released: will Walmart and Target still be carrying Anthology? I'm seeing $125 minimum on preorders everywhere and that is very discouraging.
No, the Anthology has been announced as a hobby store product only. It won't be at Walmart or Target.
I guess that means I'm buying the five commander decks to give as a gift to a young player because it seems like a better deal.
Why is the msrp online and at stores 150+? How does that make it easy for players to get the older duel decks they missed out on the first time around? Selling it only to hobby stores is a big **** you in the face wizards.
Seems the UK hasn't faired too badly with the pricing. Normally $100 is £100 over here but I pre-ordered mine for £80, which is a bargin considering I paid £90 just for the original Devine Vs. Demonic.
All these Americans lamenting the $100-$150 price, spare a thought for us Aussies who are paying $200 starting price on this, which is a price I am happy to pay given the value of the contents, and how hard it is to get these things otherwise.
I would love to order one from the US for $125, I could get it shipped express and still save money, but the policies of WOTC prevent them being shipped OS.
I see the irony in WOTC saying that this is for people who missed out on the first 4 duel decks.
First. Only US and maybe Canada can get it for a reasonable price.
Second. Well, considering how this is pretty much a "limited" run, even though they say it isn't, it looks like it is. From that standpoint, stores are going to jack up the price making this hard to get anyway. If the base price in Australia is $200, stores there are going to jack it up to $250 or more anyway, so everybody is pretty much paying more to get this, unless you find a nice store who sells it at MSRP, in which case, you are not going to get it because someone else would have bought this already.
So um, WOTC isn't really accomplishing anything with this. It isn't like the original first 4 duel deck were super expensive when they came out, meaning that they were probably easier to get back then than it is to get the duel decks anthologies now.
WOTC must also realize that just because this product is for people who missed out on the first 4 duel decks, it doesn't mean that the people who already own the first 4 duel decks won't buy this.
"We are going to reprint this product for people who missed it the first time". It feels like these people won't get it the second time.
The decks dont contain any "really" awesome cards, so a price of like 100 bucks is allready totally fine (probably too high allready).
Who ever pays more, fine, be happy with it.
The point about a limited product is that the store can pretty much ask for whatever price they want and simply see who baits, as some customers just dont care for the price at all, which in the end, influences the overall price, as thats what you "can" get.
Optimistically speaking I was expecting $60

Logic and common sense does not apply to Magic. Otherwise, fetches would not be $80, nor would we have people trying to justify these price tags.
Buying them at $25 4 separate times is so much simpler than lump summing at $100 all at once.
