I will wait until they announce it
from now there are so many thing i can think of:
a Comic
a standard legal set name
a MM like set
a film
a tv show
a eletronical game
some thing they will do that will not be selled in game stores
This could be a Reserve List compliant reprint set focusing on Legacy.
People would buy packs for Mana Drains, Force of Wills, Wastelands, Rishadan Ports, Misdirections, and that's not even mentioning non-competitive cards from that era that are popular in Commander or other casual play.
Nothing stops it having Jace the Mind Sculptor either.
(Edit: I'd much rather it ditch the reserve list of course, but that is less likely).
I am hoping this isn't related to the movie, judging by that title it's pointing to a direction for the movie of having no relation to any of the continuity of the moment... which is bothering me, since most geeky IP's that tried to go on a different route to what their continuity has set for their movies has been mostly DISASTROUS.

That's where I'd put my betting money.
Probably a limited-run set with old card frames and old-timey packaging, focusing on (RL-compliant) Legacy-era reprints. I'm envisioning something that's theoretically draftable, like Modern Masters.
This was my first thought as well. It fits more with the name scheme of Magic video games than sets. Card sets tend not to have the name of the game in them (with the exception of Core Sets) while video games do. Also, all the reprint-only sets have had "Masters" in the name for a while now. I'm hoping for a Shandalar remake as well.

Four out of five of them have also had the word "Edition", I don't think you can draw any pattern from what is essentially only two names.
What I'd really like this to be: Some kind of product, whether cards or a peripheral thing like a video game, designed to teach new players about the origins of the game and ~20 year old sets.
What I think this is more likely to be: Something that elaborates on the backstories of the neowalkers, bonus points if timeline confusions make it seem like the Mending never happened.
It could very simply be a Return to Dominaria type product.
My first instinct as well - maybe a way to connect to Magic's past - something about an old storyline redressed into a modern product. Though I don't know how much interest into such a thing actually exists.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.
[thread=239793][Game] Level Up - Creature[/thread]
My first thought was the movie or a product that will team up with the movie franchise (a PC game maybe?).
I don't keep my hopes up for abandoning the Reserved list. I don't think that it will ever be removed, maybe they will open the loop hole again for the premium reprints but not anyhting else.
As for a nostalgia block the name sounds too generic even though it will be interesting but without the super long texts they used to have.

I wish that foil loophole still existed. Foil underground sea...that is all. Or foil black lotus for that matter. I wish legacy decks could be 100% foiled out sadly no legacy deck can be foiled out completely to my knowledge.
As for what this could be? The number of things that it could be are limitless with a name like origins. I just hope it's something great.

"Yawgmoth," Freyalise whispered as she set the bomb, "now you will pay for your treachery."
It hasn't been said yet but a possible angle for MAgic Origins could be a focus on the birth of Planeswalker(s).
If they wanted to do an MMA-like set for Legacy you would think they would just call it "Legacy Masters".
Bingo.
It'll be a largely fully colorless set that will start the next colorless/artifact focused block. Eldrazi led into Scars and by the time Tarkir is over, it'll be that time in the cycle of blocks again. Eldrazi proved colorless non-artifact cards could function properly and well and have great fan potential.
Look for that long rumored sixth basic land, but not a new color. Just as Darksteel Citadel was the sixth in the artifact land cycle and colorless, so too will Terra be the colorless basic land.
All those lingering questions about the Origins of the colors of mana will be answered and after an intermediary small set, the third will be a large set based on The Thran allowing everyone to live through the eyes of their civilization rather than just the relics of it.
Movie Title makes the most sense at this point in time.
It definitely is not a movie.
Because the classes covered by the trade mark application include computers, video games, toys and entertainment,
just as same as the "Dragons Of Tarkir".
Actually these are the EXACT classes:
Class 9: Apparatus for recording, transmission or reproduction of sound or images; computers; compact discs, DVDs and other digital recording media; computer hardware; computer software; application software; video game software, video game programs, video game cartridges; printed publications in electronically readable form
Class 28: Toys, games and playthings
Class 41: Education; providing of training; entertainment; sporting and cultural activities; publication of books, magazines and journals; publication of electronic books and journals online; publication of multimedia material online; providing online electronic publications (not downloadable); organisation of competitions
Given two of the three classes have to deal with Online publications/electronics., odds are this is either a MTGO only set, or another E-book.
Mmmh... During a Drive to Work podcast Maro did alongside Matt Cavotta, Matt mentioned working on a project where he has to find arts to represent different planes and locations. I get the feeling his project may be related to this.
Oh, I bet this is the story about how Jace gets his adamantium claws.
Actually, a nostalgia product would be really cool as long as it had old card frames. But I don't think that's what this is about. Maybe a new Planechase/Archenemy type of product?
Reserve List breakage is a pipe dream in my opinion.
If you guys think it's a way to get expensive cards for cheap, please deflate your hopes. Modern, the fromat that WotC said they would be reprint a ton, is getting expensive. It costs just as much as legacy did five years ago.
I doubt this means the end of the reserved list. I think WotC is going to give us a "prequel" of sorts, telling the stories behind (pure speculation here):
Sera, Baron Sengir, Urza, Mishra, a partially-built Tolarian Academy, the origins of the Phyrexians, or the origins of some of the legendary beings from Legends,or anything else they feel they fell short on.
In the early days, not much of a story was created... now there is a vast story line, as well as multiple planes.
While not as big as GenCon, we have a convention called 'Origins' in Ohio - so my first thought on Magic Origins was that they were taking it over, being that it seems MTG is the biggest thing at the convention after all.
