I guess this could mean either it's an experiment for them or they could be reprinting some big rares in a way not to upset collectors. I'm hoping that this could possibly be an attempt at Modern Master 1.5, since barely anybody I know actually got to draft MMA physically.

"People underestimate Bob at their peril." - Rayland Givens
What I wonder is if the cards will be Modern legal or not.
Modern and Standard are defined in terms of core sets and expansion sets. Other products, including the yearly summer multiplayer products, the Commander decks, etc., never introduce new cards into Modern or Standard.
So if you want to play cards from Conspiracy in those formats, they need to be reprints of cards that are already legal. New non-reprint cards from Conspiracy, like the other multiplayer products, will be legal for tournament play only in Legacy and Vintage (which have a card pool defined as "every black- or white-bordered card officially released by Wizards of the Coast", rather than being defined in terms of specific sets).
I could see them doing something kind of silly, like a multiplayer focused Planeswalker. Maybe one that changes controllers every turn. Probably some new legendary creatures with EDH in mind.
I could see them reprinting Bribery. Probably also some type of dual lands that aren't total garbage (but not the fetches), perhaps the filterlands from Shadowmoor. Ghostly Prison/Propaganda maybe which would be insanely good in limited. Blatant Thievery hasn't been reprinted. I can see Wizards pissing me off and reprinting all the Primordials from Gatecrash.
I wonder if we'll see these packs at Wal Mart and Target?
Magister of worth is 48/210 in the conspiracy list while cogwork librarian is 61/210. The numbering system is very non-traditional and is a deviation from the WUBRG order followed by multicolored, artifacts, and then lands.
Corgwork looks like 58/210 for me.
With 60 new cards, it's clear the numbering starts with the new cards in the regular WUBRG-gold-artifact-lands, then the remaining 150 also in the regular order.
So... no new lands.
60 new cards in a set of 210... Really can't wait what they'll get to reprint with a theme focused on both draft and the feeling of deception/intrigue.
Most excited about that groupshot, though. Is this the Council that belongs to the Will of the Council keyword? Will they be featured as Legendary Creatures inside the set?
I don't share the opinion that they're characters we already know. Some poses they strike might be similar, but that's it.
Though look at them a bit closer. I'm speculating this Council has a representative of each color in it:
Far left: Crotchety old sort of Troll/Dwarf mix, with a mechinical/craftsman staff. R
Second left: The Elf ears are unmistakeable. Also, the fur trim and leather, bit of a woodsy feel. G
Middle: Just look at her. It's like you took old-school Teysa and removed Orzhov's W side of the equation. Leaving... B
Second right: Poseidon and LotR's ghostly king, mashed together and given some nice armor. U
Far right: White-with-gild robes, contemplative pose, the Hat of Authority... Who else but W?
By the way, I love how each of their looks is at least a little tweaked to fit the theme, a little Venetian, ancient city-state rulers sorta vibe.
So yeah, hoping for Legendary Creatures, but the art could just as easily be an Enchantment/Instant/Sorcery/etc, or just for promotional use/box art.
I hope not though. Hell, maybe the fact that they're all bunched together, and each seemingly represents a color of mana, will mean the Council as a whole is a big ole WUBRG Legendary Creature? Here's hoping...

that's weird. i couldve sworn it was 61/210 when i saw it. must be my tired eyes. the new cards being the first 60 makes sense then.
Hope this time reprints or alternatives to the expensive staples in legacy which are used in commander, like snow-real-duals, generic fetch lands and so on.
I'm sooooooooo happy that these boosters are 3.99$. That's a huge relief. I figured the prices would be super high, similar to modern masters or something. So I'm also wondering if these will be sold in general retail stores. Normally Wizards summer products are, aren't they? If not, LGS better not monopolize the price market on these.
This is probably the coolest thing Wizards has done in awhile. While I'm generally really nervous about going to stores (especially since I just moved to a new town and haven't played here yet, am a girl, and know nobody in the area) I'm willing to break out of my shell to try this. It looks awesome, and drafting has always been something I want more of.
As someone new to town I actually would encourage you to go to your local LGS and play as it is a great way to meet people with similar interests. 14 years ago when I started playing I wouldn't have wanted to go to a game store if I was a girl, but in this day and age, the environment is a lot less hostile and there are usually female gamers that frequent the shops and play in events on a regular basis. There are still schmucks out there that will treat you poorly because of your sex sadly, but any store worth going to won't put up with kind of BS going on in their shop, so if it happens, bring it to the owner/manager's attention. Unless they're just salty at losing to a girl, then revel in their sweet delicious tears and mock them visciously.
Edit: I highly doubt to see tons of modern staples in this set. This is a casual format aimed at non-tournament players. Putting fetchlands and such in here would drive the price up so that anyone who would would actually play this format can no longer afford it and anyone who has no interest in this format suddenly has to buy a lot of it. That's a lose-lose.
Plus, if there really are money rares in this thing, Cogwork Librarian opens up moneydrafting problems like we've never seen before.
I have to agree with this. There will certainly be some valuable cards in the set to help sell it, but I imagine that the rares will tend to be cards that are valuable due to casual interest more than modern staples. I could see some modern playable uncommons making their way in, but I can't think of any pricey ones that are particularly suited to multiplayer games off the top of my head.
That set symbol bugs me so much. Why does it have to be all wavy?
Agreed, it looks distorted and funky. The fact that the top part is skewed to the right and the bottom part is warped left is bad enough to mess with my ocd, but it also just looks terrible at card size.
Admittedly I've seen less than 1% of this set, but I'm a bit leery. In theory cards with mechanics that interact with drafting are a cool idea, but in practice if that is a common mechanic you're basically buying $4 packs for a phantom draft, as the utility of the card is gone after the first draft is completed. I don't love the idea of shelling out cash for what amount to "single use" cards.

I would at least check it out and see what it is like. Also, whenever a new set comes out, there is a prerelease, which is where you get 6 booster packs and you make your deck only from what you got in those boosters, so it's usually more for casual players (such as myself). The most recent was was just a few weeks ago with Born of the Gods, but the next prerelease will be on April 26-27 for Journey into Nyx. Also, check with your local store to see if they have any drafts or limited events outside of prerelease (usually our LGS have some every now and then).
And another note on drafting, Conspiracy sounds like more of a casual thing (which is good for me). But for regular drafts, there was one time I went to a regular draft at our LGS (it was my first time drafting), and I got absolutely destroyed. Needless to say, I am never going back for another regular draft lol.
