Waste of time. All the decision making that went into this. Such a minor change why even bother and that time could havd been spent designing cards i actually want to use.
Card frames aren't decided by the design team.

Known as Inanimate at Goblin Artisans, and TyrRev at /r/custommagic!
Lead Tesla, a community set designed by everyone and led by me, over at Goblin Artisans. Index of articles here!
Basically Maro is either lying for PR reasons or R&D really is that dumb about the legacy format, both are disappointing to say the least.
Stop blaming Maro. Forsythe wrote the article.
It probably sold well, the set doesn't' have chase rares really but it had alot of casual hits and interesting cards that could see play some time or another. Other than shameless $$$ print of voice I'd argue it was well designed and much better than gatecrash.
It didn't have much of an impact on Modern other than Voice of Resurgence, it had a bunch of horrible cards (Emmara Tandris, Trait Doctoring), did a bad job with the story, and was trying to do too much in general. However, I must admit that Breaking // Entering is one of my favorite cards in the game.
dual lands is such an easy way to sell a set I'm actually glad they tried something different. It didn't work but at least they tried to branch out from the tried and true method of reprint color fixers at rare to add a bunch of easy desirable rares in a set.
I just am annoyed that I can't get good colorfixing in Standard anymore. And I was hoping for one of the incomplete cycles that needs to be completed to be completed (Horizon Canopy, Nimbus Maze, Scars lands, Manlands).
Plenty of RTR cards are strong BECAUSE of devotion and Its actually kinda interesting to see monocolored decks actually be tier 1. Its been a long long LONG time since multiple mono-colored decks were arguably tier 1.
Not as many as the RTR cards that were playable last Standard. I'd love a monoclor block, but doing it right after a multicolor block was not a good move in my opinion.
Frame looks cool, although I would've preferred they stick to what they had. Back when Mirrodin came out I disliked the new frame so much I simply stopped playing, and I can see this happening to some.
I've got to be honest, I'm not particularly amused at how they admitted all the mistakes they made that upset people (Modern Masters being so limited, M14 Slivers changing the sliver mechanic, True Name Nemesis being so limited, Magic Online and all its issues) and then immediately proceed to just write them off as successes, essentially saying they have no desire to actually do anything to fix these presently existing problems and instead that they'll get it right next time. I mean, I'm all for rebalancing Commander decks in future releases, but it doesn't do anything to help Legacy with TNN either now or then. It's just as irritating as when someone "apologizes" by saying "I'm sorry you're upset" rather than taking any responsibility for the situation.
It's just business speak is all. Don't let the mod demonizing 'speculators' distract you from Aaron looking to make everything look pristine. After all, that's his job.
I agree that there were a few whiffs this year, but think about it from his standpoint: Magic made money, and the successes outnumbered the failures. To others these things were not failures at all.
True Name Nemesis is a symptom of a larger problem, yes, but it's not one that Wizards can fix. There was always going to be a best deck in the Commander lot this year, and it was going to be hard to find because of that. True Name Nemesis distorted this substantially but whoops, sold cards! Maybe that's one that is a failure to you, but not to Aaron. . .
The reason they put the language code on the card (along with everything else) is to make the cards machine-sortable. Machine can't tell that that card is Korean jus. By glancing at it like you can.
When I played the Dragonball Z card game for a while, that company did something similar for it's rares and ultra rares and it didn't really detract from the rest of the card.
And therein lies the rub-
neither myself nor anyone I can think of wants MtG to look more like DBZ or YuGiOh

yeah and there were a few things he couldn't get to write about *cough* SDCC Planeswalkers*cough* but mentioned at the end of the article.

There's nothing they can do for Modern Masters. Some people are upset that it dropped card prices. They can't print tons of it and keep prices up.
Slivers would be complained about for getting grandfathered in with the new style of lords.
There also isn't really anything they can do about TNN other than either banning it or doing a huge run of just Mind Sieze. Of course, that would crush the value of every other card in the deck.
So, what should they do?
As for the apologise for cipher comment, it's a fine mechanic. Sure, it hasn't been a constructed allstar, but that's pretty much the story of nearly every new mechanic.

It was playable in limited which is where new mechanics really shine. If they really pushed the cards, limited would have been nothing but evasive dude plus cipher or bust. Of course, the new Windfall might even find a constructed home, sometime.
No, they wouldn't have been. Everyone loved slivers. Changing their art and their iconic ability ruined the flavor.
I think the majority actually hate slivers, period despite their significant fan base. I'm nearly 100% the mechanic would be *****ed about either way, though. Magic players will complain about nearly anything.

Last I checked, Trait Doctoring and Paranoid Delusions weren't playable in limited. I don't think Voidwalk was either. They could have made at least one constructed playable cipher card. But they didn't (or at least I don't think that they did). And Whispering Madness won't ever find a home. It's been a year. It won't break anything.
Frame looks cool, although I would've preferred they stick to what they had. Back when Mirrodin came out I disliked the new frame so much I simply stopped playing, and I can see this happening to some.
That holo-something mark is AWFUL though.
I hated the change as well. However, this upcoming change isn't near as drastic so I would be surprised if a noticeable amount of people dropped out because of it. The holomark isn't that big of a deal.
And therein lies the rub-
neither myself nor anyone I can think of wants MtG to look more like DBZ or YuGiOh
I think WotC thro wants it to look more like DBZ or Yu Gi Oh. They are definitely thinking that catering to newer players is the way to go. Anything with any complexity (Regeneration, Protection) or makes players feel bad (Land Destruction, LANDWALKING *sigh*) is a no go. Right now it is working for them, but WWE and Zynga have had similar strategies in their fields, and the first is slowing down and the second may be dead by the end of the year.

Intensity, Integrity, Intelligence, Personified and Penguinified.
I just hope that whatever AaFo and MaRo mean when they're introducing new things to the game that I REALLY hope they don't add more permanent types or crap like that.
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.
At first I was like geehh, but I think I'm actually warming up to it already. The holofoil bubble, even, I'm rather starting to like. Though I admit - once someone brought up planeswalkers, I was like "Nyeeeh!"
Trait Doctoring is playable no where, but it's our obligatory color change card they shove in every multicolor block. People need to get over it.
Paranoid Delusions is part of the mill theme that is associated with Dimir. It's only playable in the mill deck, but that's mill in general unless it's some massive mill card that probably ends a limited game instantly.
Voidwalk is for hitting your own creatures. It grants vigilance or abuses ETB/LTB triggers.
The bottom of the borders bug me. I don't like how the squareness of the text box sits on top of the curved colored background (and leaves black emptiness in the bottom part of the card).
Designed by? MaRo said it's impossible to credit a card to a specific designer because it's a team effort. So they'll use it rarely? Why even do it at all?
The new card frame feels more robotic, like a Battletech frame. The card looks elongated now.
No holofoil on commons and uncommons? Does this mean we wouldn't get money $$$ stuff like Kitchen Finks or Path to Exile anymore? I'm sure people loved Shadowmoor and Shards block for the $$$ uncommons back then...
A few people have been saying Wizards couldn't do much about TNN... Seriously???
I believe that TNN's inception and introduction to just one precon was a hindsight issue, and for a company that's as big as Wizards, that's really poor planning. I'm not talking from a financial viewpoint of course, but financial strategies like this are short-term and puts a seed of doubt to the majority of the magic community. Can we really trust what they'll be doing next time???
Also, Waste Not was designed by non-American continents??? Hmmm... not liking it at all.

This seems like a huge plus to me. I'm all for making cards harder to ruin.

At the very least they could have tried to make it playable instead of printing cards like Paranoid Delusions and Trait Doctoring.

Not too ugly, but definitely uneven. Is this on purpose?

Hell naw! You best understand you're mistaken. There's *TONS* of people who hate slivers.

The holofoil stamp is tacky and extraneous.
