As my current Standard deck is UG Defenders, I was looking for another Wincon for the deck outside of stall. And it's a wincon that while setting up helps me stall so... I'm golden here.
In 3+ games she's a nice bit of politics for at least a few rounds as she helps the table by putting that one guy nobody likes out of business for a little while.
Aggro decks are still up and running in all different types of flavors. Boros, Orzhov, Esper, and Azorious aggro have all top 8'd GP's recently and that's not even counting Mono-U slamming a bird into to kill it after a -1.
Esper and Azorius aggro? Haven't seen those lists.
And that's suppose to mean anything? Aggro has been neutralized by Mono-U for quite some time. That's one of the reasons why Mono-B is running around.
Yes it's supposed to mean something sass mouth: Mono-U is an aggro deck, and a few other aggro decks have shown promise in recent history as well like the Boros deck that placed 3rd at SCG Vegas or the White Weenie deck that placed 1st at GP Shizuoka two days ago, which is very similar to Ben Stark's deck that almost made top 8 in Vegas as well.
"Aggro has been neutralized" is a poor statement to make about the meta.
Don't play enough Standard anymore to speculate, but she looks underwhelming and I've grown pretty weary of people's spoiler hype. Wouldn't be surprised to see her under $15 by April if BNG doesn't bring something along with her to make it awesome in the Standard environment. Once she rotates out, it's straight to the bulk mythic bin to collect dust.
ReleaseTheKraken.dec?
Now that we've brought down some racial divides I'd love a Goblin, Loxodon, or Vedalken(the four armed variety for extra hugs!) planeswalker.
Preach it!

Her +1 seems a little underrated---protects her -and- you extremely well.
(Seems like a fun EDH walker to have, too: shut down a huge monster, ramp like woah, or get a 9/9 kraken every turn for the rest of the game regardless of board wipes.)

that's not what happened at all. kamahl stabbed phage, akroma, and some old lady and they became korona. then korona got stabbed by her "prophets" and kamahl got drunk with a mutant centaur
At first look i though this card was complete trash but I think this card can be good if it finds the right home. At worst it is a 4 mana explore + fog one creature. Since its green could consistently come down on 3rd turn. Its first ability is a pseudo removal spell. Its ultimate can "finish people".

I wouldn't consider Mono-U Aggro. Even if it was, Kiora is blocking Thassa, Cloudfin, and Specter, so I don't see it being destroyed by the most prevalent Aggro deck in standard.
Man, the 2 loyalty is killing me, because I so want to love this card. I really enjoy UG, hell even the colors on the walker frame look great, but I just feel like loyalty is too big of an impediment for this card to be successful.

What?! It runs 28 creatures, 24 of which have CMC 3 or less, along with a splash of removal and CA effects.
Certainly depends on the environment in which she is placed, but I see her being fringe playable in standard. I would actually compare her to Vraska in that in most cases Spikes will hate her because she doesn't do enough the turn she comes down, but she actually has serious potential if you can defend her enough (U/G_ramp.dec). I like the implications of this card though, particularly the ones surrounding "target permanent".
It's too bad about her loyalty. If it was 3 this card would be REALLY SERIOUS
Obviously not playable in any other format though. Now I'm just curious about Ajani 4.0 and whatever other planeswalker they throw at us this block.
Esper and Azorius aggro? Haven't seen those lists.
Check out the lists from Grand Prix Shizuoka. Esper aggro took second (it's called esper midrange, but any list that has Daring Skyjek and Soldier of the Pantheon is aggro to me)
For Standard, she'd be stellar in Bant Control if there were any 2 cmc ramp spells not tied to creatures. Knowing what we have now, though, I'm not confident she can fit in any working archetypes, nor does she seem powerful enough to create her own. I'm gonna wait and see on this one because I remember very well how many people flailed their arms around on how Domri Rade was unplayable binder fodder when he was first spoiled.
am i the only one who thinks shes ****ing useless? maybe i have had too much christmas wine but two loyalty on a 4 mana planeswalker with mediocre abilities seems pretty ****. even on the play, a turn 2 + 3 creature on the other side of the field giggles at how **** she is. control mirror at best, and even then, i feel you can do better at CMC 4
Not useless, but she isn't amazing. Of course, I am an outsider in Standard and only pay attention to the MTGO meta, so I wouldn't know. What I do know is that this will never see play in Modern. If stuff like Xenagos and Jace 4.0 couldn't even compete, then this card won't be able to.
check out them sweet "designed with modern in mind" cards...
not the worst thing they've printed, but certainly not very good either. i'm way too confused at 2 loyalty for 4cmc.
I know right? As I said after Theros didn't effect Modern much at all, I'm starting to thing them "designing with Modern in mind" means not printing cards that could potentially warp it.
Doesn't her +1 protect herself? If so she's basically a clock if you're running mana ramp - especially now that Innistrad is gone and the meta has slowed down a bit.
Pretty much automatic Hero's Downfall bait though.
I don't even care that she isn't very good, she looks so cool~
+1 Yeah i agree completely. I could care less what is written on this card, it won me over with the art. Im really looking forward to seeing it in foil.

My thoughts exactly. She gives you up to two Explores on your turn four. They basically gave Alex Bertoncini a card.
I do think she's stronger than she initially appears, but she is certainly fragile. I don't trust that her +1 will protect her more often than it won't. I feel like she'll be a four mana Explore + Fog most of the time. Still quite solid.

It's not as flexible as Tamiyo's +1 and can't be used offensively like Tamiyo's could, but it's mostly identical as far as defending herself/you is concerned. 4 mana is a lot cheaper than 5, and Kiora protects herself while gaining loyalty about as well as Tamiyo did (which is to say, well enough), so that function's covered about as well as you'd expect for the cost.
I like the ability suite. 2 seems kind of rough for modern since even after +1 she can still die to bolt. (on the other hand she survives abrupt decay).
If block ever recovers she's a shoe in.
Sadly, she would be better if she was vulnerable to abrupt decay than if she wasn't.

+1 Stop your biggest thing or mutavault the turn after i verdict
-1 Card advantage AND ramp?!?! Yes please!!!
-FIVE?? Get an emblem and win the game within a matter of turns. Period
The BEST thing about this planeswalker is her ultimate, its not just an avatar token, its an emblem that will win the game very shortly.
As previously mentioned, BANT/BUG control? Ill certainly be looking into it.

she can set up additional mana ramp.
She can get up to 6 lands on turn 4 with 2-3 mana dorks in play untapped.
I think she pairs well with Jace AoT. Their +1 abilities together are pretty cool.
we don't know what is in BNG yet, so allow your disappointment to set in when BNG is playable.
she does seem underwhelming - I agree - but she has 2/3 of my colors so yeah. Finally.
