Sometimes I wished they printed Commander Boosters instead of a fixed precon.
That said, unequal priced products ain't giving a good sign. It's like wizards is telling control players/lovers to pay more and the rest can go play the "aggro" colors.
How about it's your local shop telling you that people are willing to pay more for some than others? WotC doesn't have anything to do with what happens after the fact. You/we are the ones who reacted to the Merfolk like a bunch of rabid animals.
Yeah, but what's the alternative? Sell at MSRP so the sharks can come in and grab the extra profit? When Wizards prints money like this, I'd rather the money was going to a LGS than to someone who is just adding transaction costs for their own benefit.
The only real solutions here are:
1. People should refuse to pay over MSRP (unlikely)
2. Stores should implement policies other than "buy what you want" to limit supply (possible)
3. Reprint the hell out of the set to out-produce the sharks (probably gonna happen eventually)
Actually, considering the print cycle through Q4 you'd be a fool not to wait if you can't find it for MSRP. "Greedy" to me means nothing for a non limited print run. Just because Google stock is $500 now, doesn't mean it originally sold for $500.
The primary surge in interest has to do with Legacy staples reprints, I sort of just sit by and let those people chew through the first run if they wish. For the rest? I saw Ninja decks sit around during the last cycle when the interest had waned and went onward to a new product.
Star City prices on somethings are just not competitive. "They would be fools for not charging this because of greedy players." Which greedy players? The guy who buys 4 of a box, then sells off the rest so they can get a play set for Legacy. I question whether that is indeed greed at all, or whether that person is just buying that specific deck to make their deck better.
This is a bit of a problem with the decks then when they make new rares and place them in one specific deck designed for Legacy. It's a Legacy problem shifting it into Commander product, not a greed problem. This was their solution to introducing new cards to Legacy, and this is the result of that policy.
As for an LGS using Star City prices, I don't shop at those stores. If I want better prices, there are a number of other sites I will look at before. There's a few stores I play at, and the ones where I shop at use averages of different places rather than a specific one like Star City. Specifically I also do not buy from Star City, unless if they're running a specific special and are cheaper.
However, Star City's ridiculous, clunky purchase list is equally annoying without a search feature and a paranoia about data mining. Their "clearing house effect" doesn't exist when there are several alternatives to Star City. People just cling to Star City because they happen to be the highest for specific cards.
Equally, some of us are also buying these decks to play Commander with. And I'm not paying an extra tax to an LGS because I reserve the right to resell certain product inside the magical little box... I'll go support Wal Mart or Target and you lose my business. I don't mind paying an extra penny over Wal Mart, but I'm not handing you $5-$10 per deck extra and over what MSRP is.
FTV? Okay you have something, this? I'll go to your competitor, and you lose. That is the end of transaction.

I think a lot of the dumbness over TNN is that there lots of NON-Legacy players that are hearing hype about the card that instantly think "good legacy card?" BLING BLING
There are far more copies of TNN and speculators with dazzle in their eyes than Legacy players that need them
Everything has a "limited" print run. What I think you mean is "short print run" like FTV.
No. It did have a much smaller print run (similar to planechase, etc), but far more demand than WotC ever expected.
Not exactly.
With the 1st run commanders WOTC said they would print them until all demands were met. So when they hit the shelves they were bought like crazy, but what happened after was folks got complacent and felt they could pick up the decks anytime. So the product ended up just sitting on shelves. So wotc recognized this as the demand being met and ceased printing.
of course we know now there were lots of people who were durdling on picking up a deck who were upset.
I preordered a set of 5, my LGS is selling for MSRP, but they were sold out of Mind Seize and Evasive Maneuvers before today. They only got 8 of each deck today, and 4 people (myself included) ordered one of each, then the other two decks pre-sold as well, so, all he had left to start today were 4 copies of Jund, Esper and Naya for the general public.
Glad I was able to get these after seeing the online prices being insane. I know it will cool off once all the big box retailers get them and they become widely available. 2 of the decks are for my girlfriend for Christmas (Mind Seize being one of them) so I may try to pick up another mind seize for myself before they discontinue them.
All in all, once the prices die down I'm sure everyone will be able to get their copies, and, I'm sure once demand dies down for the money cards they won't be worth as much either, just like pretty much every other set.

This.
You can already see the prices tanking on eBay. I bought a playset of Baleful Strix for less than $30 when it was $15 per (i.e. $60 for a playset) about a week ago. True-Name Nemesis is also already down to around $20 - $25. Naturally you can now see the online vendors redoing their prices to compensate for this. I feel bad for those who bought TNN at $40. It appears the vendors are panicking and it's a race to the lowest price. You can even see advertisements like "lowest BIN" and vendors undercutting each other by a quarter, etc.
On a related note, got mine at Toys R Us just fine. My LGS (which is known for not being too good to customers) is selling the Grixis one for $60 (lolwut), the Esper for $50, and the other three for $30. They are trying to justify the prices based on the two cards I talked about above, but based on eBay, their quoted prices are already inaccurate. I won't be surprised when they still have Mind Seize in stock next week.
Ordered a set online and the delivery estimate is for tomorrow. (I intentionally chose a seller that was relatively close by).
Hope most people are having good luck. It sounds like it isn't going too badly, except Grixis. Shame that some stores are trying to gouge on them still.
Yes, I suppose the supply of True-Name Nemesis would outnumber the players who play Legacy Fish. However, it is those speculators and greedy shop owners that hug them to no end, ensuring the price will stay relatively high until we'll see a reprint at some stage. Perhaps we'll may never see a reprint.
Look at Scavenging Ooze before it was out in M14. USD$40 omg... It's really sad that people wanting to play with just the new commanders but having to fork out the load on the set because smaller shops aren't willing to break to sell singles. And buying off players is hard because it's just one copy; they may need it and unwilling to let go.
And this is coming from where we don't have alternatives like Toys R Us, Target or Walmart.
Well reading this thread is a little disconcerting. At FNM my LGS marked up the price of the deck I wanted, Grixis, to $45 so I passed and just planned on picking it up at MSRP from the nearby Target, but it sounds like a lot of people are having difficulty finding this particular deck. I hope I can find it because I was really excited for this deck, despite having no interest in True Name Nemesis, which I assume is the primary reason Grixis is so expensive compared to the others.
I hope Wizards rushes out another print run, post-haste because it seems like they underestimated demand.
Local shop marked up their prices to 80 dollars.
I could not believe they were serious. I don't think even the desperate people would buy at that price.
Went down the road to a retail store and both me and my friend got 4 decks each for msrp. (Passed on Naya because nothing really stood out to me)

I dealed with my LGS owner about buying the deck WITHOUT True-Name Nemesis, he let me have it for $25 stead of the $40 he was asking, which made me pretty happy, I don't give a **** how hard SCG wants to ruin people's wallets to get their "new legacy staple", all I wanted were the commanders and Decree of Pain.

Yes sir, I take fantasy art and character design commissions, PM me for rates.
I don't. It's because of them that people who just want to play with the Grixis deck have to shell out an extra $10-30 (if they can even find the decks since so many are being snapped up and broken down for singles).
I bought the full set for $120 pre-order and seeing people paying half that price for just one deck is almost funny. I can't wait for the prices to tank...
Bought my grixis deck in Fance for 30€.
Sold 1 Nemesis for 30€ a few hours later.
I was wondering if i should buy all the grixis i find... but i think all of this is kind of stupid and sad
Very, and I am wondering how people are going feel that buy a sealed deck for $60 or whatever, then two weeks later find one at Target for MSRP. Stuff like this is not in the right spirit of the "collector's" side of the game, IMHO.
I ended up finding Mind Sieze for slightly above MSRP ($35) at a Toys R Us after bricking at 2 Targets before hand. One Target was sold out of Grixis and the other was either sold out of all of them or simply hadn't stocked them yet. Either way I'm fairly happy I got one because the deck is a blast to play, especially against the other Precons.
My boyfriend and I were able to find all five at a random Target (the first one we checked, too!) yesterday. He got Grixis and I got Esper... we're not disappointed.

Update: I schlepped on over to near the border of Pennsylvania to find a Toysrus with Mind Seize and Esper and called it a day. Surprised to see them at 39.99; but, oh well, I had tons of old gift cards that were collecting dust.

Also does someone have a list of decks in order of Value?

UR Control
Modern
Merfolk

Avacyn did nothing wrong!
Purify Innistrad!

Hua Tuo is in Jund and is only worth 5 dollars for the reprint.
Grixis deck has Baleful Strix and True Name Nemesis.
I think the value goes like this
Highest
Grixis
Esper
Jund

Naya
Lowest
