The fact that this guy also did Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, invalidates any of the criticism about the quality of his art. It's one of the best arts printed for Magic EVER.
I actually like the piece in full, but I will say the packaging looks weird....I'm not sure if it's because they pushed the contrast or it just looks weird to see this "milky" art style cut out in such a definite manner and pasted on top of a garish background.
Having done great work before gives no one an criticism shield for future work.
That particular fact is why I sometimes get mildly annoyed with books that proclaim: “By the author of [so and so]!” on the cover. So what? Just because a previous book was astounding doesn’t mean the new one will be…

That's an opinion, not a fact.
Unless Mr.Kieryluk has won the" best arts printend for magic ever" award and was to modest to share this tidbit of info....
Anyway, past results are no quarantee for future succes. This is espesially true for forms of art.

This happens with movies too... That's why i organized a Peter Jacksson movie night once during the Lotr craze. People came dressed as Lotr characters. They where outraged when i only showed Bad Taste, Meet the Feebles and Braindead. Afterall, The Peter Jacksson made Lotr. He couldn't possibly made such smut.
I think it is great that the artist has come on here to discuss it. I could quibble a little bit about about his gorget/cloak clasp/ neck area, but I think the real quibble is with wizards. The cropping is just weird. I understand taht they love making the Planeswalkers pop out of frame but it ruins the setting of the art. Seeing the large shot is really sexy, Jace kind of a Magento/Superman vibe coasting into a ruin setscape. The palete choice was really nice reflecting Azorious and better a great counterpoint to the thematically grimy nemesis Vraska. Vraska is pretty perfect.

It works with authors who have been around a long time and have an established style without being samey. For example, I'll read any Terry Pratchet book that I see, regardless of reviews (yes, he's changed a little in recent years but they are still great reads)
I think the Jace art looks pretty swell. The arrogant politician look suits him a lot given his role on Ravnica. Not at all a fan of the Vraska, but that's probably because the original is terrific.
But either way, Igor has done some absolutely magnificent pieces. Elesh Norn, Geosurge, Falkenrath Aristocrat, Linvala, Jace's Ingenuity are all great. Even if you don't like either of these arts, they can't all be winners.
I'm surprised the artist wasn't happy with the DD Tezzeret. He's really good.
In Times of Facebook people use to think that the best and more natural way to see a face is when it is making pose for photo. And this isn't all If someone changes in a litle period of time they tend to criticize the frame, the color, or contrast.
All in all if people can't understand that this piece of art isn't a Facebook picture but The moment before the conflict/Action Like when you see a wildlife Tv show ( you know , when the lion is in the air almost biting his prey) or when you see someone on geting read to fight ( like when you see the moments before a MMA/ UFC fight) Then i have to say : you got spoiled by facebook photos...

That's an interesting theory.
However, I suspect most people are comparing the art to previous PW art,
rather than random FB photos
I know in my case, it's not the poses that bother me.
It's how plain Jace looks compared to previous art.
Then again, that may be intentional to show he is maturing.

Did I miss something, or has this not been released yet?
On topic: I think this Vraska art is a huge improvement over her booster art. I'm on the fence about Jace, but I'm also on the fence about his booster art. I don't really like "mature" Jace. I also don't really like Jace in general.
It's pretty funny, everyone had written off Jace as one of the potential planeswalkers in the upcoming duel deck, since he'd already been in one. Clearly they underestimated just how hard WotC wants to push Jace.
I'm pretty "meh" about Jace's new art, but then, I was pretty "meh" about his original art, too. I'm just generally either "meh" or "bleh" about all things Jace.
Yeah. That didn't stop people from assuming that WotC would give duel decks to their other popular recurring planeswalkers (Like Gideon. Everyone thought Gideon would be in this next duel deck.) before giving Jace his second.
the art is sweet, come on guys. it's stylized but it fits both characters well.
and as for jace, he's the space marines of mtg. yeah, everyone and their brother has 500 points of tactical marines somewhere, but that doesn't prevent dreadnoughts from being completely awesome!

If the store owner says that I can't trade in the premises, I'll just go outside. If he says that I can't trade within 10m of his premises, I'll go to 11 meters. If he says that he doesn't want to see me trading, I will put a basket over his head and continue trading.
Yes, he's a local legend. He's only known to take his clothes off before he goes into the Ladies' Lockerroom. Nobody knows what he does in there because he's invisible, but it's almost certainly tons of masturbating.

Sorry if this is a bit anal - but this is not "stylized" or stylistic art, not even close.
I'm just hoping AEtherling and Gaze of Granite find their way into the decklists. Especially AEtherling. I usually like to pick up the duel decks when they are cheap and then make casual decks from their components. Usually you can make a pretty good deck by having multiple copies of the duel decks.
What other cards would you guys realistically like to see? What themes or deck types?

well now... you're wrong there. not "opinion" wrong but genuinely wrong.
does the picture look like a photograph? nope
is the picture an interpretation of something? yep
is the picture composed of 'strokes' or 'marks' made by the artist, applied one at a time, therefore rendering the image through artistic license rather than a direct copy? yep
everything about the way it was made, what it was made with and what it depicts indicates that the image is a function of style. the style is that of the artist and nobody else. it doesn't look realistic (in a literal sense, like a photograph) and it has evidence of brush-stroke style markings which are a function of stylistic intent. all art is made in a style; there is no such thing as style-less art.
comments like yours, given with an "i'm sorry but..." with a false air of authority are very frustrating. if you're going to make sweeping statements about something, make sure you can back them up, and if you can't, bite your tongue.

Well, it doesn't try to be reallistic. Like a comic, it has certain parts exaggerated. Therefore, according to the rules and guidelines of art, it is stylized.
Portraits by the old masters are nonstylized for example. Rembrand & Co tried to make their pieces as reallistic as possible.
