I really love how confident you are in this card, because I find myself falling more and more in love with it. I'm hoping it gets the attention it deserves, because I think it's both powerful and highly interactive. Mind games, man. They can go far.
A couple of caveats I have since my original post:
1. It is terrible in control. Seriously, just play more Jace instead of these... meanwhile, in midrange and tempo, it's even better than I first thought.
2. Run 4 or don't run them at all. You want it cast as early and as often as you can, and you NEVER want it to be the last card in your hand that you cast.
I'm not complaining because of the card on its own merits, I'm more upset that it's an obviously worse version of a previous card. But no, I haven't tried it. If it puts up results, I might give it a twirl, but I honestly doubt that it will. "But have you tested it?" was what people said about Chandra, Pyromaster too, and as far as I remember, she didn't exactly live up to the hype that said people were trying to make about her.
Chandra has made her way into eternal formats. Just sayin'.
Indeed she has. On merit of her being a Blue-hued Red PW Whether she will live and/or thrive in Legacy is another matter entirely but she's a test-subject, which arguably makes her "good".
Oh yay, you found one playable card - and a mythic at that, if that matters to anyone - in the whole RtR block. Truly this is amazing. You just showed me that Wizards do care about control, since they printed a decent card for it within a whole block. Let me just ignore this watered-down version of FoF, for this is completely negated by the fact that a playable card actually exists for this deck type. Woo.
Verdict, D-sphere, and Aetherling all say hello as well.
As for Steam Augury, I've been testing it in my Grixis Control deck and so far I like it. It's obviously not the greatest CA engine ever, but if you don't have access to Revelation either due to colors or cost I think it's a decent option. It's a very well designed card. It's a skill check, for both you and your opponent. It's an interactive card which are always nice. It can lead to some very interesting spots and can change the course of a game in the right spot and when played well (or if your opponent makes a mistake). In my opinion it's a fun card with a high enough power level that it might see constructed play and that's a good thing.

Jace AoT, Detention Sphere, Supreme Verdict and Aetherling definitely aren't absurdly good control cards (and that's just in UW at the rare slot).
How does printing a still-good downgrade of an incredible control card from a long time ago (SA is meant for midrange more than control, by the way) allow you to conclude that WotC is somehow biased against control? Do you even remotely pay attention to which decks are actually winning tournaments? I'll give you a hint: control is always in the mix.
I played for real with this card tonight. It's really, really good in my deck.
I'm not sure about Control builds, but my Izzet tempo counter/burn deck benefits from it greatly. It acts as card draw, fantastic synergy with Spellheart Chimera, token generator for Young Pyromancer and shock damage with Guttersnipe.
As far as opponents having to make the final decision: while I agree that FoF is better, that's not the point. In most scenarios, we do lose the best card, but it is up to us what we are going to pair with that card. In every instance tonight, I was granted fantastic cards.
I definitely fell more in love with the card. To each their own, of course, but it does work for me.
It's been great for me so far in Riku EDH. The way I see it, from your top 5 cards, you either get the best and 4th best card, or the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th best.
I do agree it's not an auto-include in every deck that can run it though.
I ran a similar build at FNM last week and went 3-1, losing only to Mono-R, which I believe is beatable with the right sideboard options (of which I did not have...).
It's not for every deck, but will find a minor home somewhere in the next couple years.

It will find a home if UR graveyard or flashback shenanigans come back. It then goes from mediocre to excellent. It is the type of card that could be unplayable for an entire block, only to become a staple the next.
Yea this card is way strong. Been really enjoying it in Modern. This should have been in RtR block, would have been a lot of fun in a standard environment with snapcaster.

WotC, please hire me already.
