Like this girl - I'm so casual even simple scry 1 for 2U, undestructible soundss good; and suddenly found out that majority of three existing cards with UUUU are weiiird: Mind over Matter, Leviathan, Invoke Prejudice.
Figures that the first leaked god is blue one. Never trust liquid state, I say.
Sorry - I'm sure this has been asked and answered somewhere in these 20+ pages of comments, but would this card trigger abilities keyed off of creatures entering the battlefield, even if the caster has insufficient devotion to blue? It seems like the answer is yes, it's a creature when cast, but then becomes a non-creature after it enters the battlefield.
I think Thassa will see play 1U: target creature is unblockable is certainly breakable. Not to mention a 4 turn clock if you can keep her active, and scry 1 as a cherry on top.
Actually, I think becoming a creature is the cherry on top. Without the scry, this thing would be absolute garbage. It would have SO little use before it can become a creature.
I like that they seem to have deliberately made it so it's a creature so that it can be used in EDH as a commander. They could have just had it as an enchantment and then made it turn into an enchantment creature when you have devotion 5, but this way, it can sit in the command zone
I'm looking forward to the other gods. I really like that this one SEEMS rediculously strong when you read it, but then it turns out it's actually quite fair.
I also find it hilarious that revoke existence can kill a god. You no longer exist!!! And then the god just vanishes.

Thassa's devotion is a static ability that functions at every point while it's on the battlefield. If you have insufficient devotion to blue to stop her from being a non-creature, then she won't trigger any creature-enters-the-battlefield abilities like Soul Warden, because she didn't enter the battlefield as a creature.

It's a creature spell when cast, but is never a creature on the battlefield unless you have sufficient devotion.
So cards that care about casting, like Door of Destinies, will always see it as a creature. Cards that care about entering the battlefield, like Blood Seeker, wouldn't trigger unless you're devotion was high enough.

I'm pretty sure it enters the battlefield as not a creature in that scenario.
Good to know that hybrid counts for devotion for sure. Not so impressive for Thassa, but time to reacquire boros reckoners I think- red and black devo (ooh I hope that's a deck with erebos- I want to play whip it) should be quite easy to get to large numbers. Burning tree emissary draws might just be even more absurd.
Like others have said... even if Thassa never becomes a creature, her presence is Bob-like. You're not drawing an extra card but you're getting rid of what you don't want every turn... and for 1U you're giving one of the better evasions in the game to a creature until end of turn. And almost nothing can get rid of this Enchantment.
Just out of curiosity, what form of evasion is better than can't be blocked?
This is a minor point, but I gotta say, I don't feel like scry is really such a flavor homerun. Sure, Greek myths had a lot of prophesying, but not of the "I see what's going to happen, let me alter that" sort. More of the "inexorable fate you can't avoid" sort. Forecast would fit better flavorwise. (Yes I know there's no way they'd bring back forecast.)

Her subtype is a creature and an enchantment subtype.. think about it She is both.
On a side note.. the collector and EDH player in me is drooling so much. This set is going to rock.

It seems that devotion cards would only be playable in mono-colored decks, and this one looks unplayable in control (even if mono-U ended up viable) - so mono-U aggro/midrange, and it's playability is dubious even there. You really need this to reliably be a creature by turn 4 or 5 - the other effect isn't good enough. It doesn't seem powerful/consistent enough for older formats either. I really don't see this getting much play without a very specific kind of support from the set.

i think that an indestructible enchantment for 3 which scrys for 1 every turn for free and can make your creatures unblockable for 2, is kinda playable on its own.
and the 5/5 creature is just a bonus...
i think this is totaly playable. i dont know if in controle. but tempo or something would totaly play this.

This card is probably too slow, even with scry filtering your draws, for current Standard, and far too slow for Modern. (And I don't even assume to understand the older formats...) But I think that there is a good chance of Standard slowing down with the release of Theros. I mean: Bestow, Devotion? Those 2 mechanics alone are begging for a slower format in order to be viable for play; I seriously doubt wizards would make a number of mechanics the focus of a block that would be too slow to play (even 1 or 2 cards) in Standard.
And as for Thassa, if we can get some decent UU or 1UU creatures, she could see some fringe competitive play.
That, and you know what they say. If Wizards started shipping $100 bills in boosters tomorrow, people would scream and cry and whine that they were folded the wrong way.

It might be too slow for current standard, but we're going to lose 4 sets when this is released, so it definitely will not be current standard.
If the gods are designed like this, I like it - a lot. It really feels fresh, new and exciting to build around it.
And yet I think Thassa will pale in comparison to the other gods. Her scry is nice, but it helps nothing when the RGX aggro guy smashes your face. Same for the unblockable ability, since everyone is turning every guy on his board sideways nowadays anyway, theres nothing left that could block.
If the red and white gods are even remotely playable they could be bonkers, I think, for there are several low cc creatures providing easy devotion access. Namely Boros Reckoner, Ash Zealot, Precinct Captain, Chandras Phoenix and Fiendslayer Paladin.
I'm SO SICK of the "too strong for Standard" argument. It's the new "Dies to removal". We can have a two mana 4/4 with a zillion abilities, but we can't just have Accumulated Knowledge. Makes sense.
Thanks to those of you upthread who answered my question regarding whether this is a creature upon entering the battlefield if you have insufficient devotion!
On a side note - at one point in design do you think this card changed from 1UU to 2U? If that change isn't mentioned/discussed in an article on mtgnews at some point, I will be shocked.
Not sure if it has been stated yet, but there is some value to this not becoming a creature with enough devotion on the field. As a creature, it has one more way to be removed from play. You can exile target creature, you can reduce it's toughness to 0. So all you really can do as an enchantment is exile it, which while possible, is not as useful overall against players.
So, as long as the non-creature aspects of the card are playable for the mana cost, then this card should see play. A blue player would love to be able to scry 1 every upkeep to filter their deck. It helps to provide land drops when you need them, and it helps you dig for cards you need to deal with any given situation at any given turn. Scry on this card basically says, "If you don't like the card you drew, put it on the bottom of your library and then draw another card. Do this only once during your upkeep." Who wouldn't want that turn after turn after turn?
As far as I am concerned, this is a powerful card, and may even be played where it isn't necessary to ever make it a creature. I can't say if it will be played in constructed, but it has a good chance at it as it stands. The rest of the set will determine if it will see play.

If you have insufficient devotion to blue to stop her from being a non-creature, then she won't trigger any creature-enters-the-battlefield abilities like Soul Warden, because she didn't enter the battlefield as a creature.
Think of it in a similar way to how a Dauntless Escort under the effect of a Heartless Summoning will trigger Mentor of the Meek (because it enters the battlefield as a 2/2), but a White Knight under the effect of Honor of the Pure won't trigger the Mentor (because it enters the battlefield as a 3/3).
So cards that care about casting, like Door of Destinies, will always see it as a creature. Cards that care about entering the battlefield, like Blood Seeker, wouldn't trigger unless you're devotion was high enough.

If that's the case, then Thassa has no creature type, which is probably even worse. :-P
