I wonder how hard it will be to actually get devotion running. Like getting to 5 U sounds easy but i probably haven't had more than 3 or 4 of any given symbol on a table at once in a normal game of standard for a long time, and rtr block cards by design are all splitting symbols between multiple colors. There wasn't really any XXX predator ooze type mono color cards anywhere, its all XXY and 4XXYY type stuff.

"A scrupulous writer, in every sentence that he writes, will ask himself at least four questions, thus: 1. What am I trying to say? 2. What words will express it? 3. What image or idiom will make it clearer? 4. Is this image fresh enough to have an effect? And he will probably ask himself two more: 1. Could I put it more shortly? 2. Have I said anything that is avoidably ugly?"
Enjoy needing a playset of her, or some other $35-40 card to stay competitive in Standard! No, don't play Modern, even though it is waaaaaay cheaper than Standard. /chortle
Doesn't generate card advantage, only library manipulation.
I said virtual card advantage. You won't draw more cards but more of the cards you draw will be the cards you need.
That's why library manipulation helps you win the game (even if library manipulation alone is often not quite good enough to play unless very aggressively costed) - you draw more cards that are the right card for the situation.
As for this card overall, it's obviously quite niche - it only fits in a deck which will hit 6 blue symbols without already having won the game pretty consistently. There may well not be a deck that fits those criteria anytime soon, which would leave this thing unplayed. It's powerful at what it does, though, so it's the kind of card to watch just in case the stars align and it ends up being worth playing.
I can see this as being a pretty strong tempo card in a UB shell. How does Thassa's scry interact with duskmantle seer and his ability? Another creature to keep in mind when considering devotion isnightveil specter.
Good news, duderinos: Matt Tabak confirmed on his blog that devotion works exactly like chroma despite the reminder text. So hybrid mana and Phyrexian mana does count towards devotion.

I hate you Cz (ノಥ益ಥ)ノ ┻━┻ . Ok. let's all calm down and take a deep breath. ┬─┬ ノ( ゜-゜ノ). Better?
So I guess the 5/5 for gg that maro hinted about could be the green god, don't know if this has already been mentioned, but it seems right to me. It would normally be an enchantment for gg, but if the devotion is online, it's a 5/5 for gg, what do you guys think?
(this is where future generations laugh at me when she turns out to be jank or something, like Aurelia's Fury)
I'm guessing $25 to preorder and then it settles around $10-$15, because the decks that want her won't want 4 and it will probably be a 2 maybe 3 of instead.
And she might not even be used in control decks, because what do you cut for her? The esper decks in block are already well-oiled machines, not to mention they will have a hard time actually turning her on, because their non land permanents that turn her on are d-sphere, jace, aetherling, and some run nightveil spector, even less run lyev skyknight. The odds of having enough of those on the field to turn her on aren't very good.
She is much more powerful in tempo decks that could possibly turn her on much more consistently and faster than control decks. So her price will almost certainly depend on the power level of the tritons. Either way I'm getting 2-3 copies :).

If MTG is a part of your life, the formats are like relationships:
Standard/Block = The on-again, off-again holiday fling
Modern/Vintage/Legacy = Stable, homely. A ***** after absence/misreading
Limited/Sealed = Heart breaking free spirit
Commander/Cube = Agreeable, needy and expensive
Pauper/Peasant = Sweet, kind, practical, but shy and boring

UW Aetherling Control will probably play this, but just for the scry ability alone. I'm pretty sure it's 5 total symbols, including Thassa's. So that means her, Jace, and Aetherling do the trick. So the scry 1 ability is decent enough to play her for.
Overall though she doesn't scream "super playable god" to me.

It better be hard as hell to turn it's devotion on then. That's what scares me about the green and red gods, if they are cheap and their devotion threshold is only 5, they will be absolutely obnoxious. Thassa is fine for blue, but if the red or green god are just as cheap they will be way too powerful.

It's a snake though; so it's probably not the god but just a creature with devotion.
In the same way you can tell someone is from the XVIII century because he is arroused by ankles, you can tell someone is from USA because he feels nipples disturbing.

I thought of that, but I'm pretty sure he said 5/5 green snake, which doesn't fit. Probably still a devotion card, though.
Thassa is pretty ridiculous. I'm not a great player, but a 3 cmc indestructible scry enchantment seems constructed playable to me, even if she never becomes a 5/5 creature (ceases being not a 5/5 creature?).
Wonder what the other gods do. My money is on the white god being an anthem, but I have no idea for the other gods.
Elves will hit devotion no problem what so ever, if they need it. Even in standard you have so much double green stuff (Tusker) as well as ramp elves that will probably make this a 3rd turn viable thing, provided it follow the same template.

Any chance for a source on that? I would love to read an article on gender in MTG if there is one.

Even if you were running something along the lines of:
turn one: U
turn two: UU
turn three: This card.
That is only 4 mana symbols. You would have to be able to ramp somehow.
